Ireland's best restaurant, cafe, pub and more named at Irish Restaurant Awards
Success was on the menu for acclaimed Cork eatery Dede at the Customs House, Baltimore on Monday as it took home the top prize at the All-Ireland Final of the 2025 Irish Restaurant Awards. The glitzy awards bash took place at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin, where over 1,000 of the country's top hospitality professionals, which included owners, chefs, managers and staff, gathered to celebrate the finest establishments in Irish food and drink. Now in its 16th year, the Irish Restaurant Awards - which have been dubbed Ireland's 'Food Oscars' - received a record breaking 165,000 public nominations for restaurants, cafés and venues across the country - the highest in the Awards' history. Prior to the night's splendour and opulence, regional events were held in Kildare, Cork, Sligo and Monaghan, where county winners across various categories were announced. From these winners, the All-Ireland winners were chosen. Taking home the top honours at Monday's ceremony was Dede at the Customs House, Baltimore, who were named Best Restaurant, while John Kelly of the Lady Helen Restaurant at Mount Juliet Estate was awarded Best Chef in Ireland. Renowned Chef Neven Maguire was also honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award recognising his contribution to Irish food and hospitality. Who were the big winners at the Irish Restaurant Awards? Best restaurant, chef and more revealed
Two of Ireland's Michelin -star restaurants led the honours at the Irish Restaurant Awards on Monday night, when Dede at the Customs House, Baltimore, Co Cork, was named best restaurant, and John Kelly of the Lady Helen Restaurant at Mount Juliet Estate was awarded best chef in Ireland. It is the second year running that Dede, with Turkish chef Ahmet Dede at the helm, has won the best restaurant category. The Baltimore restaurant opened during the pandemic in 2020, and within the year had gained a Michelin star . It added a second star in 2023 – one of just five Irish restaurants to hold the honour. Kelly of Mount Juliet Estate's Lady Helen Restaurant in Kilkenny took home the best chef award. Kelly is commended in the Michelin Guide for his 'boldly flavoured, visually impressive dishes that are skilfully prepared'. More than 1,000 of the country's top industry professionals gathered at Dublin's Clayton Hotel on Burlington Road to celebrate the best in Irish hospitality. Having moved from Dublin in 2020, husband-and-wife team Dave Rowley and Siobhán Ward opened Bearú last July. In her review , Irish Times restaurant critic Corinna Hardgrave described the cafe by day/restaurant by night as 'a convivial bistro serving confident, well-priced food without a hint of pretension. A breath of fresh air that blows well beyond Dublin's well-trodden paths.' Other finalists in the category included Dublin's Forêt , Munster's Baba'de (sister restaurant to Dede), Connaught's Oifig an Fish and Ulster's No 9 Market Square. Pub of the year went to Sean's Bar in Athlone, Ireland's oldest pub on the banks of the Shannon, while Strandfield cafe, florist and grocer in Ballymascanlon, Co Louth, was awarded best cafe in Ireland. Six Wexford exhibitors to feature in this year's Bord Bia Bloom
The festival expects to welcome over 100,000 visitors across its 70-acre site in Phoenix Park, which will play host to 20 spectacular new show gardens at the centre of the experience. Hyland's Nursery from Gorey will exhibit for the first time at Bord Bia Bloom. Returning to the festival this year are Irish Fuchsia Nursery based in Monamolin and Kilmurry Nursery from Gorey, both of which will be showcasing breathtaking plants in the Nursery Village. In addition, popular features will return along with some exciting new demonstrations, panel discussions, talks and performances. These include The Plant Emporium, live demonstrations and interactive workshops including floral crown making in the new Botanical Hub, and exhibitions of Botanical and Floral Art and AOIFA's (Association of Irish Floral Artists) Floral Art Competition. Visitors to Bloom can meet 100+ of Ireland's top food and craft drink producers at the Food Village and Bloom Inn, including three Wexford-based businesses: Killowen Farm from Enniscorthy, a family business producing Yogurt and Cream Cheese using milk from their own cows, New Ross-based Wexford Home Preserves, which makes traditional jams, marmalades and relishes since 1988, and O'Neills Dry Cure Bacon Co, located in Enniscorthy, producers of dry cured bacon products for the retail and food service markets nationwide. Attendees can also enjoy delicious food from plenty of food trucks, the BBQ Bliss area or Bloom's four on-site restaurants: The Garden View Restaurant, Bistro Bloom, Country Crest Restaurant and The Seafood Terrace. New for this year is 'A Taste of Bloom, curated by Neven' a three-course dining experience celebrating quality Irish produce designed exclusively by chef Neven Maguire for Bloom. Two decades of Taste celebrated with a cookbook that makes a difference
Taste of Dublin is celebrating two decades of food, flavour and festivity with the release of a limited-edition cookbook. Taste of Dublin: The Recipes showcases signature dishes from some of Ireland's most celebrated chefs and offers a delicious trip down memory lane. The exclusive cookbook brings together 20 standout recipes from past festival demonstrations. Neven Maguire at the Taste of Dublin.
