Just in: Melbourne is the sixth best city in the world for nightlife right now

If this news doesn't call for one helluva party, we don't know what will. It's just been announced that Melbourne has ranked sixth on Time Out's list of the world's top 20 best cities for nightlife – and while it's no shock to any of us locals who love a late-night boogie and bev, we're still pretty damn stoked to be named among some of the hottest party spots around the globe. In case you hadn't realised, we've long been a champion of nightlife – and that's why we set out to collate the world's greatest cities for going out in 2025. We quizzed thousands of people in hundreds of the world's best cities, asking them to rate both the quality and affordability of their city's nightlife scene, from clubbing and bars to pubs and nighttime entertainment. After crunching all that data, we narrowed down the selection by excluding cities with lower overall scores and only including the highest-scoring city for each country. To create the final ranking, a panel of nightlife experts, including Time Out's city editors and arts and culture writers, voted on their faves. So which city claimed the top after-dark accolade? None other than the legendary party den of Las Vegas. Yep, the glittering, neon-lit strip is officially the hottest nightlife spot in 2025. And you know what, we get it – it's fun, it's full on and whether you're at a giant rave, epic EDM set or swanky cocktail bar, you know it's gonna be a guaranteed good time. Rounding out the rest of the top five is the Spanish capital of Madrid in second, Paris in third (duh, that one's a classic), Shanghai in fourth and Berlin (another no-brainer) in fifth. That means Melbourne beat out certified party spots like Amsterdam, Bangkok, Mexico City and Cape Town. How good! Back to Melbourne. We've always known our all-hours city is Australia's undisputed nightlife capital, and now we can really rub it in (sorry, Sydney!). On any given evening, you can find a basement club catering for all kinds of subcultures, an intimate bar with a vinyl collection that will have you swooning (hello, Music Room) or a glittering drag show starring a roster of fabulous queens. And while the tried-and-true nightclubs remain a rite of passage for all partygoers – we're looking at you, Revs – there's been a noticeable shift to alternative after-hours adventures. Think chic, cosy lounges with epic sound systems à la Waxflower, Caretaker's Cottage and Angel Music Bar, or late-night festivals like Rising and Now or Never that host exhibitions, feasts and parties well into the wee hours. If we take a look at the stats, locals in Melbourne were fourth-most likely to describe their city as 'lively', and an impressive 81 per cent of Melburnians rated their city highly for nightlife. However, only 23 per cent agreed that a night out in the city is cheap, making it one of the lowest-ranked cities for affordability. Ok, so there's room for improvement – but hey, if we can fix that we're a shoe-in for the number one spot next year. Sleep? There's no time for that in Melbourne – see you out there, no matter how late it is. Here's the full list of the the world's 20 best cities for nightlife: Las Vegas, USA Madrid, Spain Paris, France Shanghai, China Berlin, Germany Melbourne, Australia Brighton, UK Mexico City, Mexico Dubai, UAE Mumbai, India Cape Town, South Africa Warsaw, Poland Bangkok, Thailand Lagos, Nigeria Cairo, Egypt Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Amsterdam, The Netherlands Medellín, Colombia Marrakesh, Morocco Athens, Greece Stay in the loop: sign up for our free Time Out Melbourne newsletter for the best of the city, straight to your inbox.

Bayern Munich make 'approach' for Liverpool star after Reds farewell message

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz continues to be linked with a move away and it has now emerged that the Colombia star has spoken with Bayern Munich over a summer transfer Bayern Munich's sporting director, Max Eberl, has held discussions with Luis Diaz over a summer transfer as the Liverpool star takes time to weigh up his long-term future. Diaz, 28, continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield in the wake of Liverpool's Premier League title-winning campaign. And it has now emerged that talks over a potential move to the newly minted German champions have already taken place. ‌ Eberl is said to have made a 'concrete approach' to Diaz on behalf of Bayern Munich, who are searching for a wide forward after missing out on Florian Wirtz to the Reds. ‌ Bild report that they 'discussed specific figures' in a bid to reach an agreement over personal terms for the Colombia star. Diaz is contracted to Liverpool until the summer of 2027 but has already been linked with a lucrative transfer to Spain this summer. Bayern have other options on their radar, though, including Manchester United 's Marcus Rashford. They have already missed out on deals for Jamie Gittens and Nico Williams, with the latter seemingly poised to join Barcelona. Details of Diaz's talks with Eberl and Bayern come just weeks after the winger's partner, Gera Ponce, sent social media into a frenzy by sharing what appeared to be a farewell message on her Instagram account. She wrote: "To the incredible Liverpool fans. From the first day we arrived, we felt first hand what it means to be a part of this club. We knew the slogan was 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but to hear them sing it with so much passion, support us every moment and show such unconditional love... confirmed to us that here you never walk alone. Join the debate! Do you think Diaz will leave this summer, Liverpool fans? Let us know here ‌ ‌"This fan doesn't just support, it feels. And what you have made my boyfriend and our entire family feel is something we carry in our souls. "Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home. Being a part of this fan is a privilege. There's no doubt: they're the best in the world. This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms that we'll never walk alone."

Luis Diaz sends Barcelona message after partner's Liverpool 'farewell' post

Liverpool star Luis Diaz has been persistently linked with a transfer to Barcelona and the Colombia international is said, through his agent, to have told the Reds he wants an exit Luis Diaz has informed Liverpool he wants to make the move to Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain. The Reds star is said to have come to an agreement with the Catalan giants and is now looking to facilitate the transfer. Diaz was a key player for Arne Slot in 2024/25 and scored 17 times across 50 appearances and provided a versatile cog on the left of the attack and through the middle, often to great effect. ‌ The Colombian international has two years remaining on his contract at Liverpool but has been persistently linked away from the club. Mundo Deportivo claim that the 28-year-old has poured cold water on any attempt to renew his deal and his agent is said to be attempting to force an Anfield exit to Barcelona. ‌ Diaz has also drawn interest from the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr also want to sign Diaz but the Liverpool ace seemingly only has eyes for Barca. And some believe that Diaz's partner is already saying her goodbyes. Gera Ponce took to Instagram to share images of the couple and their young children celebrating the Premier League title win in front of the Kop, and from last Monday's trophy parade in the city. She delivered a poignant message expressing her gratitude. "To the incredible Liverpool fans," she wrote. "From the first day we arrived, we felt first hand what it means to be a part of this club. "We knew the slogan was 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but to hear them sing it with so much passion, support us every moment and show such unconditional love... confirmed to us that here you never walk alone. "This fan doesn't just support, it feels. And what you have made my boyfriend and our entire family feel is something we carry in our souls. ‌ "Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home. Being a part of this fan is a privilege. There's no doubt: they're the best in the world. This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms that we'll never walk alone." Some patience may be required however. Barcelona sporting director Deco has suggested the club's priorities are first on players already at their disposal - though he has admitted to interest in Diaz and Marcus Rashford. "We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come," the former midfielder told BBC Sport. "Of course, these two players, like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair. ‌ "But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players. "When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. So this is important. The image of the club is still good. We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come."

This classic '80s song just hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. Show Caption Hide Caption Watch Rick Astley's reaction to the 'Ted Lasso' funeral scene Ahead of his slot on New Kids on the Block's The Mixtape tour, singer Rick Astley plays '80s trivia with USA TODAY's Melissa Ruggieri. Entertain This!, USA TODAY No, Mr. Astley, this isn't a fake-out. You're streaming royalty now. British pop star Rick Astley, whose inescapable '80s hit "Never Gonna Give You Up" found an unexpected renaissance in the digital age, has joined the ranks of Spotify's "Billions Club," according to a June 2 press release. The soulful synth-pop track, taken from Astley's 1987 debut album "Whenever You Need Somebody," has exceeded one billion streams on the music platform. "I never could have imagined back in 1987 that 'Never Gonna Give You Up' would still be going strong decades later," Astley, 59, said in a statement. "Thanks to streaming platforms, a whole new generation has been able to discover music like mine. Reaching one billion streams is something I never dreamed of and to everyone who's ever listened, thank you." Rick Astley memoir: Singer tackles Rickrolling, Dave Grohl and resurgent pop career in 'Never' The song, written and produced by the all-star dance-pop production team Stock Aitken Waterman, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and has sold five million copies to date. In the late 2000s, "Never Gonna Give You Up" received an unlikely revival when the "Rickrolling" internet meme became a viral sensation. The digital prank consists of a bait-and-switch maneuver in which someone opens a disguised hyperlink containing the music video to Astley's song. When the individual opens the link and is confused to discover the song, they have been "Rickrolled." Thanks to the "Rickrolling" effect, "Never Gonna Give You Up" earned tens of millions of YouTube views (the music video currently has 1.6 billion), was played at various sporting events and was even referenced on X, formerly known as Twitter, by The White House during the Barack Obama administration. Rick Astley is no one-hit wonder, but these music stars are. "I don't know how my career would have turned out without Rickrolling," Astley reflected in his 2024 memoir "Never." "But it would be stupid to say it hasn't ultimately done me a lot of good." While "Never Gonna Give You Up" remains Astley's signature song, his other hits include "Together Forever," "She Wants to Dance with Me," "Cry for Help" and "It Would Take a Strong Man." His most recent album, 2023's "Are We There Yet?," peaked at No. 2 on the charts in his native U.K. Contributing: Melissa Ruggieri, USA TODAY
