[DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] In April, a woman came to the Newnan Police Department to report a possible fraud incident. The woman told officers she received a text message from someone she believed to be PayPal. The message stated that someone hacked into her account and tried to transfer $49,500 from her account. The victim said she called the number that texted her, and 'PayPal' transferred her to their fraud department. The woman then made contact with a man named 'John.' John told her she needed to create a secure account that was 'essentially unhackable.' John then told her to go to the bank and withdraw $25,000. According to officials, the bank did put a hold on her money but released it after three days. The victim then met with the person she believed to be John and gave him the cash. She told police she was able to see what vehicle the man got into and said John tried to contact her again the following day to give him another $30,000. Newnan investigators told the woman not to withdraw any more money from her bank account and to stop communicating with John. Coweta County chase ends with PIT maneuver, 2 arrested

Two people were arrested Sunday after a car chase through Coweta County. The two were sought by Newnan Police Department on suspicion of felony shoplifting, Coweta County Sheriff's Office reported. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Deputies said the car matched the description of one seen in a video. A patrol car tried to stop the car. Deputies said the driver responded by ignoring the emergency lights and siren. The driver sped up, going around cars and running red lights, according to the police report. The pursuing deputy said he attempted a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) stop but didn't succeed because there were other vehicles nearby. The left side of the cruiser's bumper hit with the Audi's rear right bumper, causing the Audi to spin around into the patrol vehicle. Other officers helped box in the Audi, and the two suspects were arrested. Authorities said Jaimie Allen Hennessey, 33, and Mary Amber Rose Croft, 26, were taken to the hospital to ensure they weren't injured in the crash. The Coweta County Sheriff's Department says Hennessey faces charges for fleeing/attempting to elude police officer. Both were wanted by Newnan on felony theft charges, and both had a warrant for their arrests out of Carroll County. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Lousy getaway skills lead to would-be burglar's arrest in Newnan

The Brief A man tried to outrun police cars in a stolen side-by-side following a burglary at a Newnan dealership. Surveillance video captured the man crashing through a fence at the business. Police have charged the man with damaging the business as well as burglary. NEWNAN, Ga. - A burglary suspect tried to outrun Newnan Police in a stolen side-by-side but learned his driving skills and vehicle were no match for pursuing patrol cars. What we know The burglary happened at Cycle City early last Saturday morning. Owner Greg McDonald got a security alert that movement was detected in his back lot. "So, I pulled my camera up," said McDonald. "I'm thinking I'm going to see a cat walking around the back, and I see this guy." McDonald says he called 911 and when police arrived, the suspect was still there, making a lot of noise in his attempt to escape the lot with Yamaha Side-by-Side. He did make it out of the fence, but by then, Newnan police had the business surrounded, and a chase started between the suspect in the side-by-side and officers in patrol cars. "He hit a curb, which caused him to wreck," said Lt. Van Meadows of the Newnan Police Department. Meadows said the suspect then ran, but was tasered and arrested. Dig deeper The suspect has been identified as Justin Davis, 34, of Temple. The owner says Davis had plenty of time to flee before police arrived, but he wasted it trying to cut through a thick chain in order to steal the used side-by-side. Police have charged him with two counts of damage to property, theft by taking and second-degree burglary. The Source FOX 5 Atlanta reporter Doug Evans spoke to the Newnan Police Department and owner of Cycle City for the information, photos and video included in this story.
