Biker caught speeding at 101mph on narrow country road
Adam Knock, 36, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on the A4042 at Llanover near Abergavenny last month on Sunday, April 6. He was riding a Yamaha MT-09 motorcycle, Newport Magistrates' Court was told. The defendant, of Llanelly, Monmouthshire avoided a driving ban due to 'the impact on his business and especially an employee who relies on his wage'. Knock had his driving record endorsed with six penalty points. He was also fined £135 and ordered to pay £200 costs.

Two men arrested after police manhunt
Two men have been arrested in connection with an alleged burglary. Officers were called to Fair View in Pengam, near Blackwood, following a report that three men entered an address at around 1.45am on Tuesday, May 20. A man was allegedly assaulted at the property during the incident. He went to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged. Gwent Police previously appealed for people with information that would help them identify two men to come forward. Detective Superintendent Steven Maloney, the senior investigating officer, said: 'Our investigation into these matters continues and we're keen to identify the other two men reportedly involved in the [alleged] burglary. If you know who they are, then I would urge you to get it touch with us." They were both later released on bail. A man from London, also 37, had previously been arrested on on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving and possession of firearms. He was charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously, possession of a firearm and going equipped for burglary and was remanded to appear at Newport Magistrates' Court. He was released under investigation for threats to kill and aggravated burglary with intent and enquiries are ongoing. This follows the arrest of a London man, also 37, on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving and possession of firearms. He was charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously, possession of a firearm and going equipped for burglary and was remanded to appear at Newport Magistrates' Court. He was released under investigation for threats to kill and aggravated burglary with intent and enquiries are ongoing. Blackwood drink-driver sent to prison for 20 weeks
Newport Magistrates' Court heard how Jason Young, 45, was stopped on Libanus Road in Blackwood at the wheel of a Volkswagen Scirocco car. He was found guilty of drink-driving with 137 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. Young's offence took place on March 26, 2024. The defendant Montclaire Avenue, Blackwood was locked up for 20 weeks and banned from driving for 50 months. He was also ordered to pay £650 costs and a £154 surcharge. Young also admitted failing to surrender on June 18 last year.

Caerphilly woman steals goods worth £1,000 from Tesco
Young mum Rebecca Skym, 24, targeted the Tesco supermarket in Caerphilly over a four-day period last month, Newport Magistrates' Court was told. The serial shoplifter was remanded in custody after she pleaded guilty to stealing: Groceries worth £79 on April 27 Meat valued at £129.50 on April 28 Alcohol and meat worth £224 on April 28 A £329 TV on April 29 Coca-Cola Zero valued at £11 on April 29 Alcohol worth £294 on April 30 The defendant, of Caerphilly Road, Senghenydd, Caerphilly is due to be sentenced on May 30. Skym committed these six offences of theft while she was the subject of a suspended prison sentence imposed in January for similar matters. On that occasion, she avoided jail after stealing £3,000 worth of food, clothes, alcohol and homeware. The defendant pleaded guilty to 11 counts of theft at stores across south Wales, dating between September and December 2024. Cardiff Crown Court heard how Skym stole £1,000 worth of clothing from retail giant Next. She also took joints of meat worth £400 from Tesco in Caerphilly as well as four bottles of vodka worth £267 and 10 bottles of gin valued at £240. From Aldi, she stole 17 joints of meat worth £176.32, before stealing 11 fragrance sets worth £765 from Superdrug, and 10 perfume sets valued at £350 from Boots in Talbot Green. She was spared an immediate custodial sentence due to her "previous good character" as she had no convictions recorded against her. Upon sentencing, the judge also considered that as a young mother, her children's lives would have been "destabilised" if he were to sent her to jail. She was sentenced to 30 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement, carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay a victim surcharge.
