Amy Schumer undergoes back surgery
Amy Schumer has undergone back surgery. The Life and Beth actress - who has six-year-old son Gene with husband Chris Fischer - has revealed she recently had an operation on her spine following a surfing accident. She revealed she had undergone a procedure when she shared a joke she had heard from another patient alongside a photo of herself recovering in bed. She wrote on her Instagram Story: "Overheard post back surgery 'pickleball keeps this place in business.'" Amy later shared a picture of her standing with the aid of a walking frame. She wrote: "Since my surfing injury back in the day my L5 has been killing me. Today I got a laminectomy! It's a short recovery and when I'm feeling better I will buy a bra!" Amy has previously been candid about her health issues, including her struggles with endometriosis, and last year she revealed she had been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, a hormone disorder caused by prolonged exposure to steroids. She wrote in a News Not Noise newsletter: "While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up. "So, finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable." Amy was made aware of her condition after being criticised for her "puffier" face,a common side effect of Cushing syndrome. She quipped: "But thank God for that. Because that's how I realised something was wrong." Earlier this year, the Trainwreck star revealed she had had a "really good experience" with Mounjaro after struggling with Wegovy, another weight-loss drug. She said on Instagram: "Three years ago, I tried Wegovy. I was puking, I couldn't handle it. "I don't know if they've changed the formula, whatever. But anyway, I went on this Telehealth meeting with Midi Health, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself 'cause I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are nurses and teachers." Amy noted that the clinic "put [her] on oestrogen and progesterone". She continued: "I realised I was in perimenopause and my symptoms from being perimenopausal have disappeared." The actress has seen a marked change in her appearance since she adopted the new drug. She said: "My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean. I'm talking about sex. So that's been great and Mounjaro's been great." Amy is keen to be open and honest with her followers about her weight-loss journey. She explained: "Look, it's not covered by insurance unless you have diabetes or like severe obesity, which most of the internet thinks I have. But I'm having a really good experience with it and I wanted to keep it real with you about that."

Pritzker says ‘no way' FBI can arrest Texas lawmakers in Illinois
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) in a Wednesday interview said he would block any efforts to arrest Democratic lawmakers in the state who fled Texas to block a GOP effort to pick up five additional House seats in the midterm elections. 'Our state troopers protect everybody in Illinois and anybody who's here in Illinois,' Pritzker said during an appearance on ' News Not Noise ' with Jessica Yellin. 'And so, whether it's federal agents coming to Illinois or state rangers from Texas, if you haven't broken federal law, you're basically unwelcome and there's no way that our state legislators here — the Texas state legislators — can be arrested,' he added. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) urged FBI Director Kash Patel in a letter this week to help return Democrats to the Lone Star State. President Trump on Tuesday said the federal agency 'may have to' get involved, later adding the GOP was 'entitled' to additional House seats. 'We should have many more seats in California. It's all gerrymandered. And we have an opportunity in Texas to pick up five seats. We have a really good governor, and we have good people in Texas,' the president said during an interview Tuesday on CNBC's 'Squawk Box.' 'And I won Texas. I got the highest vote in the history of Texas, as you probably know, and we are entitled to five more seats,' he added. But Pritzker argued Wednesday that any efforts to force the return of Democratic lawmakers are illegal. 'Look, we follow the law and the law is what I just laid it out to be. But, as you know, Donald Trump does not follow the law. Indeed, he's a convicted felon,' Pritzker told Yellin. 'And in Texas, they are also not following the law. They are thwarting the Constitution with the Voting Rights Act and making threats that they can't carry out. John Cornyn, of course, is running against Ken Paxton for his seat in the U.S. Senate; and so they're fighting, bickering over who can be tougher on this topic,' he added.

Amy Schumer Just Hilariously Referenced Her 'Puffier Than Normal Face' In 'Kinda Pregnant'
Amy Schumer is poking fun at a recent diagnosis. In the comedian's newest film Kinda Pregnant, the 43-year-old stars as a woman who pretends to be pregnant for special perks—like a seat on the subway. But in the movie, Amy references her recent Cushing syndrome diagnosis, which has caused her face to be "puffier than normal." In one scene, Amy's character Lainey is in a maternity store when a worker asks how far along she is in her pregnancy. The worker then says, 'Judging by your facial bloating, five months?' "I'll break your f*cking neck," Amy replies under her breath. She quickly corrects herself, adding: "I've been a freaking wreck." Amy revealed that she had been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in February 2024, sharing that she found out while doing press for her Hulu show Life & Beth. "I feel reborn," Amy wrote in the News Not Noise newsletter. "While I was doing press on camera, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up. So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable." During a January 22 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the actress shared that online trolls actually helped her figure out a diagnosis. When she first started receiving comments about her puffy face, she ignored them ignored them. However, once doctors started chiming in with concerns she had Cushing syndrome, she took the feedback more seriously. 'At first, I was like, 'F*ck off,' Amy said. But then, she realized, 'Wait, I have been getting steroid injections for my scars' from her breast reduction and Cesarean section. (Cushing syndrome can be caused by taking steroids for an extended period of time.) 'So I got these was getting these steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome—which I wouldn't have known if the internet hadn't come for me so hard,' she continued. Amy right went back to work after receiving her diagnosis, but she was feeling "really down on myself" about how she looked. 'I was, like, really having trouble figuring out how I was going to star in a movie while I had this going on,' she told host Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast. But ultimately, director Lorraine Caffery gave her a confidence boost. 'I just needed one person to just amp me up,' Amy said. Amy's health updates raise a lot of questions about Cushing syndrome. Here's what you need to know about the disorder. Cushing syndrome, which is also called Cushing's syndrome, is a disorder that happens when your body makes too much of the stress hormone cortisol over a long period of time, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). According to the NIDDK, symptoms include: Weight gain Thin arms and legs A round face Increased fat around the base of the neck A fatty hump between the shoulders Easily bruising Wide purple stretch marks, mainly on the stomach, breasts, hips, and under the arms Weak muscles There are two main types of Cushing syndrome, including exogenous (caused by factors outside the body) and endogenous (caused by factors inside the body), Medline Plus says. Amy has exogenous Cushing syndrome, she revealed in the newsletter. There is a range of potential causes of Cushing syndrome. Amy said that hers was caused by steroid injections "in high doses," but certain lung cancers, tumors on the pituitary or adrenal glands, or an inherited endocrine disorder can also cause Cushing, per John's Hopkins Medicine. Treatment for Cushing syndrome depends on the cause. In the case of getting Cushing syndrome from medication, gradually reducing the dose to the lowest dose needed or switching medications can help, the NIDDK says. However, if a tumor is behind the syndrome, removing it will help, according to the organization. Most people with Cushing syndrome can be treated and fully cured, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) says. If the condition is left untreated, it can cause fatal complications; but, if the patient is properly cared for, their life expectancy is expected to be the same as that of everyone else.
