New Updates For Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy's Upcoming STAR WARS Movies — GeekTyrant

There's been movement in the galaxy far, far away. Lucasfilm's Star Wars slate is finally showing signs of life with two highly anticipated projects, Taika Waititi's long-gestating film and Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter , both getting new updates. Waititi's mysterious Star Wars project has been in development limbo since it was first announced five years ago. Now, it finally has a working title: Cosmic Doom . The production will reportedly go by the name Ghost Truck 6 , according to Nexus Point News. Details about the plot are still under tight wraps, but Waititi is set to direct from a script written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Tony McNamara ( The Favourite , Poor Things ). Despite the delays, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy remains optimistic about the project and is allowing Waititi full creative breathing room. 'Taika is on Taika time. I've just continually said to him, look, when you feel that you're ready and you can really devote the time, we're going to do it. We'll be waiting. I'm just hoping we get there. That will be a great Star Wars movie.' Waititi previously talked about the project, saying: "I've been developing [the Star Wars film] for a few years, but I think with any film, but that one in particular, it's something I'd really like to get right, so I don't want to rush it. It's going to bubble along on the side." "I wanna capture that joy and entertainment of those early ones like The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and all those ones, so I'm trying to figure that out. It'll happen." The director also came out and said: "It will pause...a Taika Waititi film. It's gonna piss people off." Waititi has explained that he's looking to create something new with the franchise and expand the universe beyond all of the characters and locations that we're familiar with. While Waititi's film still doesn't have a release date, Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter is much further along. The studio is targeting a production start this September in London with filming expected to wrap in December. The movie, starring Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth, is set for a theatrical release on May 28, 2027. Initially developed under the working title Kyber Mist with the production name Blue Mist Productions , Starfighter is described as a standalone story set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker . According to the studio, the film 'is an entirely new adventure featuring all-new characters set in a period of time that has not been explored on screen yet.' With both films promising fresh characters and timelines outside the main Skywalker saga, these updates mark a hopeful shift for Star Wars storytelling on the big screen. It's been a quiet stretch for the franchise theatrically, but things are starting to look more active on the hyperspace horizon.

Former WWE Champion Is Rumored to Play a Major Big-Screen Gaming Series Character

Image via WWE On June 30th this past weekend, Cody Rhodes turned 40 and entered a stage where professional wrestlers start contemplating their future beyond the ring. After all, a career spent between the ropes cannot go on forever. And it seems that the former WWE Undisputed Champion has seemingly found his calling. And to top it off, it involves the bright lights of Hollywood. As first broken by Nexus Point News, Rhodes is rumored to don the role of Guile in the live-action reboot of the legendary Street Fighter. A fighting game series, it was first released in 1987 and focuses on a global fighting tournament organised by the leader of the evil organisation, Shadaloo. Cody Rhodes Can Join Roman Reigns as Part of the New Street Fighter Reboot Last played by the iconic Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1994 adaptation of the film, Guile is a U.S. Air Force pilot famous for his military prowess and 'Sonic Boom', and interestingly dons a blonde hairstyle similar to Dusty Rhodes's baby boy. Although the character was not featured in 2009's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, he has been a fan favorite since his debut in 1999's Street Fighter II. This is not the first time Rhodes has appeared on the big screen. As an actor, he made his debut in Syfy's Warehouse 13 and later had a role on CW's Arrow as Derek Sampson, a drug dealer who terrorized Star City. 'The American Nightmare' will next be seen in 'The Naked Gun', which debuts on August 1. Moreover, Rhodes' former archnemesis, Roman Reigns, is already set to play the role of Akuma, who is also a mainstay in the series. If the rumors are true, then fans can very well see the reunion of two of the biggest stars the WWE has to offer today. Filming is scheduled to start in August 2025 in Australia and is produced by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with the series' creator, Capcom. Apart from Rhodes, the reboot will feature prominent stars like Jason Momoa (Blanka), Andrew Koji (Ryu), 50 Cent (Balrog), with David Dastmalchian playing It will be interesting to see if Rhodes can follow in the footsteps of legendary WWE wrestlers becoming Hollywood mainstays like The Rock, John Cena, and Dave Batista. Rapper 50 Cent Seemingly Confirms 'Street Fighter' Casting

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has seemingly confirmed a report that he's in talks to star in the upcoming "Street Fighter" reboot. If true, Jackson will potentially play the boxer Balrog. Nexus Point News was the first site to report that Jackson was in talks to play Balrog, and not long after their report, Jackson took to social media platform X to respond. He captioned the post with "No Days off, Let's work all roads lead to Shreveport 💣Boom💨" and added a link to his site Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson attends the Grand Opening of the brand new Planet Hollywood NYC hosted by Robert Earl, Alec & Hilaria Baldwin, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson, and Boy George on March 11, 2025 in... Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson attends the Grand Opening of the brand new Planet Hollywood NYC hosted by Robert Earl, Alec & Hilaria Baldwin, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson, and Boy George on March 11, 2025 in New York City. Morefor Planet Hollywood If the report is true, then Jackson won't be playing one of the good guys. First appearing in 1991's "Street Fighter II: The World Warrior", Balrog is one of the fighters on the side of M. Bison's malevolent organization, Shadaloo. Balrog is a boxer from Las Vegas whose star was once on the rise, but he wound up in disgrace after his ambitions led him to cheat and even to kill some of his opponents in the ring. The news of Jackson's potential casting is the second casting story to emerge about "Street Fighter" in as many days. Yesterday, we learned that "Presence" star Callina Liang had joined the cast as martial arts expert and Interpol agent Chun-Li. The cast list of the "Street Fighter" reboot continues to grow, with perhaps the biggest name attached so far that of Jason Momoa. It's also been reported that Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck will star in the film. Nexus Point News reports that Momoa is playing the monstrous Blanka, Centineo is Ken, Koji is Ryu, Reigns plays Akuma, and Peck will play Vega. The "Street Fighter" reboot is being directed by Kitao Sakurai, and the latest draft of the script was written by Dalan Musson, who co-wrote "Captain America: Brave New World". There's no word yet on producers. The "Street Fighter" games first launched in 1987, and numerous sequels and spinoffs followed. The games usually revolve around a global fighting competition organized by the villainous M. Bison. Steven E. de Souza wrote and directed the first live-action "Street Fighter" film that hit theaters in 1994. It starred Ming-Na Wen, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, and Wes Studi among others.
