Full resumption of Smart Selangor bus service in Subang Jaya in first week of June
PETALING JAYA: All the Smart Selangor bus routes under the supervision of Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) are expected to resume by the first week of June. Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said in a statement that the state government regrets the service disruption on routes SJ01, SJ02, SJ03, SJ04, and SJ05 under MBSJ's supervision, and that routes SJ01, SJ02 and SJ03 have now resumed operations. He also said the Selangor government has requested MBSJ to conduct an internal audit so that all agencies can identify the root cause and weaknesses that led to the almost a month-long disruption of the Smart Selangor bus service in the city. 'The state government is aware that this disruption has caused inconvenience to users, including schoolchildren who rely on this service since its inception. Disruptions like this can erode public confidence in the state and national public transportation services and hinder efforts to promote the use of public transport overall,' he said. He added that the state government places great importance on providing free bus services for the people of Selangor, to facilitate public mobility.

Selangor focuses on growing DRT after pilot project proves successful
SHAH ALAM, April 28 — Selangor is focusing on expanding its demand-responsive transit (DRT) services, with a new tender process underway after a pilot phase that served 73,389 users across eight zones. 'For now, our focus is on the demand-responsive transit service, which we hope can provide better connectivity for first- and last-mile journeys,' Selangor state investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han was quoted by The Star as saying today, referring to the public transport service by its initials DRT. He added that the state is currently 'evaluating request for proposal (RFP) applications from potential DRT service providers' and hopes to 'roll out the service again in less than three months.' During the RFP period, DRT providers will not operate under the Selangor Mobility programme but can continue based on their own business plans. Previously, Trek Rides and Mobi were the two DRT operators under Selangor Mobility. Ng said the Keramat Zone, which includes Kampung Melayu Ampang and SMK Dato' Ahmad Razali, had shown a continued need for DRT services following the pilot. 'The (DRT) vans can serve areas like SMK Dato' Ahmad Razali and Kampung Melayu Ampang, as they are able to navigate narrow routes,' he said. To further improve student connectivity and safety, Ng launched a newly completed covered walkway at SMK Dato' Ahmad Razali, built by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) with a RM1.15 million allocation from the state. The project also included another walkway in Bukit Indah and two new bus stops. 'This area was one of the zones under the DRT pilot project, known as the Keramat Zone,' he noted. Separately, Ng reported that the free Smart Selangor bus service has recorded over 76 million riders since its launch in 2015. 'The Smart Selangor bus service now operates on 59 routes. Of these, 54 routes serve 252 schools, which is 26 per cent of the total number of schools in Selangor,' he said. Ng added that expansion of bus routes would depend on demand.

Zhejiang Jingxing embarks on RM1.9bil expansion of paper mill in Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: Zhejiang Jingxing Paper Joint Stock Co Ltd's subsidiary Jingxing Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd today launched RM1.9 billion Phase 2 expansion of its plant in Banting, Selangor. The paper manufacturer said the project will add 600,000 tonnes of annual Kraft Liner production capacity, bringing its total Malaysian investment to RM3 billion. It said the expansion includes highly advanced manufacturing lines supported by integrated thermal power, water treatment, and wastewater management facilities. "The plant's integrated automation systems will create 500 new jobs and generate annual local operating expenditure exceeding RM45 million," it said in a statement. Selangor state executive councillor Ng Sze Han said the significant investment underscores Malaysia, particularly Selangor, as a critical player within the global supply chain. Ng said Jingxing's Phase 2 expansion directly supports Selangor's goals in job creation and local talent development, reinforcing its attractiveness as a premier investment destination. "Amid escalating global trade tensions and shifting supply chain dynamics, Selangor has emerged as a key beneficiary, attracting substantial foreign investments and driving new economic opportunities," he said. Jingxing Malaysia director and deputy chairman Wang Zhiming said the expansion marks a significant milestone in the company's global growth. Wang said the new plant, when completed, will further enhance its product range and quality. "We are emphasising on service efficiency, local employment and supply chain opportunities," he said. According to Jingxing Malaysia, the expansion strengthens Malaysia's export capabilities with 70 per cent of production targeted for international markets. It noted that the facility's advanced infrastructure and automated processes will optimise manufacturing operations and product quality. "This investment adds to Malaysia's growing paper manufacturing sector, which attracted RM877.9 million in investments throughout 2024, with foreign investments contributing RM578.4 million," it added.
