Ascent Hospitality Management names Nicholas Mason chief financial officer

Ascent Hospitality Management, parent company of Huddle House and Perkins American Food Co., has named Nicholas Mason chief financial officer, charged with overseeing strategic financial planning, capital management, and supporting the company's long-term growth strategy. He will also focus on improving franchisee support and driving profitability. The role is a promotion for Mason, who has served as vice president of Ascent for the company since October 2024. He has more than 15 years of experience in restaurant finance, with previous leadership roles at Papa Johns and Craftwork Holdings, where he was responsible for facilitating the merger of integrating systems, processes, and financials for 10 brands into a $1 billion holding company. 'Nicholas has quickly become a trusted leader and strategic partner within our organization,' chief executive officer James O'Reilly said in a statement. 'His deep business expertise and his ability to align financial strategies with growth objectives make him the ideal person to guide Ascent's next chapter of expansion.' 'This is an exciting time for the company, and I look forward to working closely with our leadership team and franchise partners to build on our momentum and achieve new levels of growth,' Mason said. Ascent has made several changes in recent months. In October, its Perkins brand added a smaller fast casual model, called Griddle & Go, while the chain began testing a signature cocktail menu in the spring. In February 2024, Toni Ronayne was named president of Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, which was rebranded to Perkins American Food Company shortly thereafter. She left the company in the spring. In the wake of her departure, the company's succession plan included naming Blain Shortreed as chief operating officer of Ascent Hospitality, an extension from his prior role as Huddle House president. He is now also charged with overseeing Perkins. Huddle House also recently embarked upon a rebrand, including the addition of drive-thru locations, a new logo and tagline, and new menu offerings.
