New CBS affiliate will offer local news
CBS programs are moving from WANF to WUPA this week, and the network is building a local news operation to serve viewers of its new affiliate.
Why it matters: If you prefer to learn what's happening around town by watching local news stations, you'll have another outlet to add to your roster.
The latest: Starting Saturday, WUPA (Channel 69) will become the new CBS affiliate and on Monday, local weather coverage will be broadcast during the "CBS Mornings" show.
The station will do a full news launch in September, the company said.
Zoom in: CBS Atlanta also unveiled the people who will lead the newsroom.
Nichole Green, assistant news director, comes to CBS Atlanta from New York where she was an executive producer.
Lea-Anne Jackson, a news veteran who has been with WUPA for five years, will be the station's creative service director.
Alex Sanz is the station's managing editor. Before that, he worked with the AJC and the Associated Press.
Troy Bridges will transition from CBS Detroit to be the Atlanta station's meteorologist and will make his debut Monday.
What they're saying: CBS Stations president Jennifer Mitchell said the outlet is hiring a team with deep ties to the Atlanta area.
"They're here to listen, serve and tell stories that matter," Mitchell said in a news release.
Catch up quick: CBS Atlanta last week announced its senior leadership team, including Tom Canedo, president and general manager; Shawn Hoder, vice president of news; and Barbara Roeder, vice president of sales.
