Jets tease potential reunion with K Nick Folk

The New York Jets entered training camp with an inexperience problem at kicker. As things currently stand, they're hosting a position battle between rookie undrafted free agent Caden Davis, and sophomore Harrison Mevis. Neither placekicker has kicked in an NFL regular season game. After a few uneven performances at training camp, Jets general manager Darren Mougey is now considering going in a different direction. The Jets hosted free-agent kicker Nick Folk on a visit, according to a report by The NY Post's Brian Costello. It would mark a reunion. Folk kicked for the Jets from 2010-16. The 40-year-old Folk most recently kicked for two seasons for the Tennessee Titans. In both 2023 and 2024, Folk led the league in field goal percentage (96.7 and 95.5). He's remained incredibly accurate since leaving East Rutherford. The Titans hired a new special teams coordinator this offseason in John "Bones" Fassel. Coach Fassel preferred a kicker with more distance, so the Titans decided against re-signing the accurate Folk, opting for the riskier leg of Joey Slye instead. As accurate as Folk has been, distance isn't his game at this point. Folk would bring considerably more reliability to the Jets' kicking game. Together, Mougey and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo must decide if they want to gamble on Mevis or Davis being a long-term solution. Signing Folk would obviously be a short-term fix. Veteran K Nick Folk returns for second stint with Jets

July 29 - The New York Jets are bringing back 40-year-old kicker Nick Folk, the team announced Tuesday. Folk has appeared in 242 games over 17 seasons with five teams, including the Jets from 2010 through 2016. He led the NFL in field-goal accuracy in each of the past two seasons with the Tennessee Titans: 96.7 percent (29 of 30) in 2023 and 95.5 percent (21 of 22) in 2024 -- the two highest marks of his career. With the Jets, Folk made 82.2 percent (175 of 213) of his field goals and 99.0 percent (204 of 206) of his extra-point attempts. He ranks second in franchise history in made field goals and points (729). Entering 2025, Folk ranks third among active players and 14th on the all-time list with 403 career field goals. Among active kickers, he trails Justin Tucker (417) and Matt Prater (407). Folk made the Pro Bowl as a rookie with the Dallas Cowboys (2007-09) and has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2017) and New England Patriots (2019-22). The Jets signed former UFL kicker Harrison Mevis and released Anders Carlson in June. They waived undrafted free agent kicker Caden Davis on Tuesday. --Field Level Media

Nick Folk worked out for Jets on Monday

Caden Davis and Harrison Mevis have been less than perfect in their kicking competition at Jets' camp. The Jets, thus, appear to have interest in an old friend. Brian Costello of the New York Post reports that the Jets worked out Nick Folk, who kicked for the team from 2010-16. Folk, 40, has played for four other teams in his 17 seasons. He spent the past two years in Tennessee, where he was 21-of-22 on field goals in 2024 and 29-of-30 in 2023. He missed only two extra points in his two seasons with the Titans. Folk, who made his only Pro Bowl in 2007 as a rookie with the Cowboys, has made 84.3 percent of his field goals in his career. Mevis played in the UFL, and Davis is a rookie out of Ole Miss.

Perfect kicking option is now available for Commanders

The Tennessee Titans are moving on from kicker Nick Folk after the veteran made 50 of 52 field goals over the last two seasons. Tennessee's decision has more to do with Folk's age — he's 40 — than his performance. Tennessee chose to sign former Washington kicker Joey Slye, making Folk available to any team that needs kicking help. Could the Commanders be an option? If not, they should be. Age is no concern for kickers when they prove they can still deliver. It should certainly not be a concern for a team looking to reach the Super Bowl. Younger kickers are much more unpredictable, as Washington learned all too well last season. The Commanders went through multiple kickers after releasing veteran Brandon McManus due to an off-field incident before Washington signed him. With Joey Slye signed, it means the #Titans are officially moving on from 40-year old Nick Folk, who hit 50 of 52 FGs over two years with Tennessee, including 11 of 12 from 50+. He led the NFL in field-goal percentage in each of those two years. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 24, 2025 One concern for older kickers is range. That's not an issue for Folk. Over his last two seasons in Tennessee, Folk has made 11 of 12 from 50 yards and beyond, with a long of 56 yards. Folk has made over 84% of his field goals for his career. Consistency is, of course, a strength for Folk. He made 53 of his 55 point-after attempts during his two seasons with the Titans. Folk has made 97% of his PATs throughout his 18-year career. Washington re-signed Zane Gonzalez, who became its kicker after Austin Seibert's leg injury. Gonzalez was solid, but did nothing to earn the job outright without competition. Surprisingly, the Commanders didn't re-sign Seibert and have them compete. But maybe Washington was looking for another veteran to compete with Gonzalez. What if that veteran is Folk? If Folk isn't on the radar of general manager Adam Peters, he should be. If Folk's kickoffs are a concern, they shouldn't be, as over 63% of his kickoffs went for touchbacks last season, which led the NFL. Of course, with the new kickoff rules, NFL teams often employ different strategies, making touchbacks less critical. Washington has several veterans signed to one-year deals. Folk should be the next one signed, and the Commanders should bring him in to compete with Gonzalez throughout the spring and summer.
