Dodgers claim Nick Nastrini off waivers from Marlins
The Dodgers on Friday brought back an old friend, claiming pitcher Nick Nastrini off waivers from the Marlins after the right-hander struggled this season in Triple-A for two organizations. Nastrini was drafted by the Dodgers in the fourth round in 2021 out of UCLA, one of five pitchers selected that year by Los Angeles to have since reached the majors, along with Emmet Sheehan, Justin Wrobleski, and Ben Casparius. The other 2021 draftee to get to the big leagues was Jordan Leasure, who was dealt along with Nastrini to the White Sox at the trade deadline in 2023 for Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly. Nastrini pitched in Chicago in 2024 but this year has been confined to Triple-A, with a 7.58 ERA with nearly as many walks (43) as strikeouts (49) in his 46⅓ innings. He's pitched in 21 games, seven of them starts. The Marlins claimed Nastrini off waivers from the White Sox on July 1, and the right-hander allowed two runs in two innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday in his only game in the organization. Miami designated Nastrini for assignment on Wednesday. Nastrini has been in the minors all season and hasn't yet used one of his five options since the season began. He's using his second option year this season. To make room on the 40-man roster for Nastrini, the Dodgers designated Noah Davis for assignment. Davis, who was acquired from the Red Sox for cash on March 27, has used four of his five options this season, the last of which came one day after tying a Los Angeles Dodgers record by allowing 10 runs in a relief appearance. Davis had a 19.50 ERA in his five appearances in the majors with the Dodgers this season, with five walks, four hit batters, and eight strikeouts in his six innings. The 28-year-old right-hander had a 3.94 ERA and one save in 21 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, with 38 strikeouts and 15 walks in 32 innings. Dodgers claim RHP Nick Nastrini, DFA RHP Noah Davis
July 11 - The Los Angels Dodgers claimed right-hander Nick Nastrini off waivers from the Miami Marlins, while right-hander Noah Davis was designated for assignment. Nastrini, 25, was designated for assignment this week after just one appearance in the Marlins' minor league system. He made his major league debut last season and went 0-7 with a 7.07 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts) for the Chicago White Sox. He now returns to his original organization as he was drafted in the fourth round by the Dodgers in 2021 then traded to the White Sox in 2023. Davis, 28, was 0-1 with a 19.50 ERA in five appearances for the Dodgers. Most of that damage came in a single outing, when Los Angeles was short on pitching and Davis was left in the game to give up 10 runs while recording just four outs in an 18-1 loss on July 4 to the Houston Astros. In 23 major league appearances with the Colorado Rockies and Dodgers over the past four seasons, Davis is 0-5 with an 8.95 ERA in 23 appearances (six starts). --Field Level Media
