Ohio mom forced to watch as family's 'aggressive' pit bull killed one-year-old toddler
A baby was mauled to death by her family's vicious pit bull in front of her horrified mother who tried in vain to stop the fatal attack.
Blakely Blosser, 1, was killed at her Dover, Ohio home on July 2 after being savaged by the dog.
Her mom Nicole had bent over to pick up some laundry with Blakely behind her when the family pet turned violent.
In the split second Nicole had her back turned, the dog growled and jumped at Blakely, relentlessly biting the helpless child on her face and throat.
Her mom sprang into action, sustaining bite marks and cuts as she unsuccessfully tried to pry the dog away from her suffering baby.
But the animal could not be stopped and Blakely died almost immediately after one of the deadly bites, authorities said.
Nicole attempted to call 911 while fighting off the pit bull. Dispatchers said the first time Nicole called, they could not hear anything.
She got through the second time she rang them, telling the operator her dog had killed her baby.
Police and emergency officials rushed to gory scene. Blakely was pronounced dead soon after they arrived.
'It was about as terrible an ordeal as we've come across in a long time,' Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell told Fox 8.
'The mother clearly put up a fight...I'm not sure any of us could imagine doing that. I have children and I can't imagine a worse nightmare.'
The sheriff said Blakely's father, Derrick, who was not home during the traumatizing ordeal, has put down the pit bull.
Prior to killing Blakely, the dog had never tried to attack a person, but had shown signs of aggression toward other dogs, Nicole told police.
Prosecutors are reviewing the situation, but the Blosser family is not expected to file any charges, Fox 8 reported.
Now, the devastated parents are left to mourn their baby girl, with Nicole especially shaken from being forced to watch.
'Born on May 23, 2024, Blakely brought immeasurable joy, light and love into our lives from the moment she arrived,' Nicole and Derrick wrote in Blakely's obituary.
'With her bright eyes, infectious giggle, deep stare, and fearless, courageous spirit, she touched the hearts of everyone who met her.
'Her joyful essence shone brightest when she was playing with her brother. Their bond was pure and filled with laughter, offering moments of joy that will forever reverberate in the hearts of our family.'
A GoFundMe has been created by the Dover Apostolic Church on behalf of the Blossers for funeral expenses and other financial strains that may come along with the tragedy.
More than $13,000 of the $16,000 goal has already been raised in donations.
Blakely's untimely death comes about three months after a little girl in Indiana was mangled and killed by six pit bull s after her aunt died from an illness while watching her.
In mid-April, Oliva Mora Regalado, 53, reportedly died from complications stemming from a pre-existing condition, leaving Flores' daughter Evelynn Lopez alone with seven dogs - six pit bulls and one poodle mix.
Evelynn was then viciously attacked by the animals, according to a statement from the Huntingburg Police Department.
