Nigeria: Ekiti govt trains livestock farmers on alternative feed source
The Ekiti state government has commenced the training of no fewer than two hundred livestock farmers on alternative feed sources as a way of resolving the lingering farmers and herders crisis in the state. The training through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project(L-Pres) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security had participants across all the local government areas of the state. They are expected to be trained on how animal and crop wastes can be transformed to feed to ease the financial burdens by livestock farmers to feed their animals. The programme which was held in Ado-Ekiti is expected to run for three days as experts train participants on how to manually convert waste to feeds for their livestock. Declaring open the training, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ebenezer Boluwade who commended the training initiative, described it as a panacea to massive productivity in the agricultural sector in the state. He added that while the state government would continue to regulate the activities of herders to avoid unpleasant scenarios through anti-grazing laws, ' the government is also engaging all livestocks owners to enlighten them on the modern system of rearing livestock.' Boluwade said, 'We are ensuring that animals that graze especially cows do not have a negative impact on cash crop farmers. 'Both can coexist peacefully in the ecosystem if they are properly managed and that is why we are putting up this training to find alternative feed for the animals especially when the season is off and there is a shortage of feed. 'These farmers also have the mandate to train the other farmers across the state while we continue to engage them in productivity through scientific methods of rearing animals. 'We will continue to provide support to farmers and livestock owners in the state to enhance productivity and food security.' The state project coordinator of L-PRES in Ekiti state, Olayinka Adedipe said the training was necessary to expose the farmers on how to convert waste from the farms and animals to feeds that can help grow the animals. He said the initiative would help the farmers reduce the cost of production and maintenance, especially procuring feeds for their animals which is understandable due to the economic doldrums in the country. According to him, 'We are embarking on this training to educate the farmers and practically show them how they can convert these farm wastes to feed mechanically. 'Most of these residues from our homes, yam peels, cassava peels even wastes generally can be used to feed their livestock.' Some of the participants who spoke commended the state government for the initiative while promising to implement the skills they were taught to further boost livestock productivity in the state. Nigeria can drive clean energy future through public-private partnerships — Expert
A financial modelling and valuation analyst, Mr Rotimi-Ojo, has called on the Nigerian government to leverage public-private partnerships (PPPs) to develop a thriving electric vehicle (EV) supply chain, strengthen the economy, and foster environmental sustainability. Speaking in a recent interview, Tonimi Rotimi-Ojo emphasised the need for Nigeria to adopt innovative financial strategies to drive investments in local EV manufacturing, battery production, and critical supply chain infrastructure. 'Public-private partnerships can provide the critical financial and technological support needed to bridge the gap between Nigeria's clean energy ambitions and the real-world challenges of infrastructure, financing, and technological capacity,' he said. The expert also stressed the importance of using robust economic tools to assess the viability and scalability of EV projects in Nigeria. 'Investment decisions in EV manufacturing are inherently risky, particularly given the volatility of commodity prices like lithium and cobalt. Financial intelligence is essential to model these risks accurately and ensure that projects are economically sustainable,' he added. Rotimi-Ojo highlighted Nigeria's natural resource base, including lithium deposits in Nasarawa and other critical minerals, as a significant advantage in the global EV race. He advocated for government-supported initiatives to establish mineral processing hubs, which would not only supply domestic EV manufacturers but also enable Nigeria to participate in global supply chains. To achieve this vision, Rotimi-Ojo outlined several urgent recommendations. These include establishing a National EV Development Fund to co-finance EV infrastructure and manufacturing, developing regulatory clarity, promoting research and development, implementing regional supply chain clusters, and incentivising clean energy integration through solar-powered charging networks. He emphasised the need for sustainability in Nigeria's EV development strategy, saying, 'Building an EV supply chain in Nigeria must go beyond economic growth; it must also focus on environmental stewardship and social inclusivity.' Rotimi-Ojo believes that incorporating Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) principles into financial planning will make projects more attractive to international investors and ensure alignment with emerging global sustainability standards. He expressed optimism about Nigeria's potential to lead Africa's clean energy future. 'By embracing public-private collaboration, applying advanced financial modelling, and embedding sustainability at every level, Nigeria can leapfrog into the global EV economy. 'It's not just about vehicles; it's about creating a cleaner, more prosperous, and more resilient future for generations to come,' he said. Nigeria: Tinubu's tax reforms will rescue economy from cabals — Senator Adeola
Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West in the National Assembly, has stated that the tax reform policy of President Bola Tinubu's administration will salvage the nation's economy from the influence of the 'cabal'. He declared that the affairs of the country are no longer controlled by the 'cabal'. Adeola made this statement on Monday in Ipokia during the 2nd Edition of the Mega Empowerment/Town Hall Meeting and Thank You Tour of Ogun West. He noted that Tinubu had made it practically impossible for the cabal to control the country's affairs. The lawmaker said the country is on the path to economic recovery and steady growth. 'I'm happy that we have an economy now that is no longer in the hands of a selected few or guided by cabals. 'Tinubu's tax reform policy is for the best of Nigeria. Having spent more than 10 years in the Senate and as a member of different committees, I can tell you that I know more about how things operate. 'These reforms are for the good people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; now we can say that we have an economy that is not guided by a selected few. 'When Tinubu assumed office in 2023, we had holistic and drastic changes to tax laws, and that is already yielding positive results. That is why, as your representative, I am in support of these policies. I want to specifically thank Mr President for a job well done,' he submitted. He explained the rationale behind the empowerment programme, stating that the objective is to give back to his constituents as a form of gratitude for their belief in his capacity to represent them at the National Assembly. While assuring them of more dividends of democracy, Adeola said he would continue to offer qualitative representation and facilitate more developmental projects for Ogun West. Nigeria: Financial desperation and the CBEX collapse
When CBEX, a digital asset trading platform, emerged with promises of 100% return on investment within a month, many Nigerians, worn down by economic hardship, saw it as a lifeline. But that hope turned into heartbreak when the platform collapsed, resetting user account balances to zero and leaving behind a trail of emotional and financial ruin. In a country grappling with rising inflation, high unemployment, and limited economic opportunities, desperation often drives risky decisions. For many Nigerians, CBEX seemed like a legitimate way to escape poverty. Investments were made in U.S. dollars, and the returns were said to be quick and life-changing. But the collapse proved otherwise. The crash of CBEX is not the first of its kind. From MMM to more recent digital scams, Nigeria has a history of Ponzi-style schemes exploiting financial desperation. In the end, the true cost of the CBEX crash isn't just the money lost — it's the trust broken, dreams shattered, and the desperation that led so many down a path of regret.
