Yankees Waive Veteran Starter Amid Injury News: Report

Yankees Waive Veteran Starter Amid Injury News: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees continued to shift around their pitching depth on June 2, as reported news of veteran starter Carlos Carrasco hitting waivers again surfaced on X. Advertisement Carrasco only rejoined the Yankees' active roster on June 1, as the Pinstripes elected to call him back up after exhausting much of their bullpen on Saturday. The Yankees did not end up needing Carrasco for the Sunday Night Baseball matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, meaning he will not take the mound during his latest brief stint in the majors. Veteran starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco pitches for the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in Carchietta-Imagn Images New York Post insider Joel Sherman reported the Carrasco news on Monday, and he added that this move hints at an injury returnee being activated in his place. "Source: Not unexpectedly, Carlos Carrasco was with the Yankees for just 1 day as pitching depth protection and was placed on outright waivers," Sherman relayed. "With no unexpected setbacks, the NYY were lined up to activate Fernando Cruz from the IL on Tuesday." Advertisement Getting Cruz back will be key for the Yankees' bullpen going forward. Before his injury, Cruz maintained a 2.66 ERA over the first 21 appearances of his 2025 campaign and Yankees tenure. The 35-year-old reliever also struck out a ridiculous 35 batters in just 23.2 innings pitched, yielding a strikeouts per nine average of 13.3. Of course, with Yankees closer Luke Weaver suffering a hamstring injury while stretching on Sunday night, according to manager Aaron Boone, Cruz's return could be even more vital over the next few games. It's currently unclear if Weaver will require a stint on the injured list. As of now, it seems Weaver was pulled from entering the game on Sunday out of precaution, but we'll wait and see if there's more to this injury. Shohei Ohtani Reacts to Dodgers' Max Muncy Announcement

Shohei Ohtani Reacts to Dodgers' Max Muncy Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers are finding their rhythm as June begins. Winners of seven of their last 10 games, the Dodgers recently capped off an 18-2 blowout over the New York Yankees heading into Sunday Night Baseball. Advertisement Offensively, Los Angeles has been one of the league's best all season. They lead MLB in runs scored, averaging 5.9 per game. The Dodgers also rack up an MLB-best 9.2 hits per contest and have launched 94 home runs so far, tied with the Yankees for the major league lead. On Saturday, Max Muncy added to that total with a second-inning home run, then hit another in the fifth, his sixth of the season. That second homer marked a significant milestone in Muncy's career, his 200th blast. Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani took to Instagram to react to the announcement of Muncy's achievement, showing his support for the veteran slugger. Shohei Ohtani, InstagramShohei Ohtani, Instagram Muncy was originally selected out of high school by the Cleveland Indians in the 41st round of the 2009 MLB draft but chose to play college baseball for the Baylor Bears instead. Advertisement In 2012, he was drafted again, this time by the Oakland Athletics in the fifth round. He made his MLB debut in April 2015 after working his way through the minors. After the 2016 season, the A's designated him for assignment. Since joining the Dodgers, Muncy has become a key figure. He's a two-time All-Star and has been part of two World Series-winning teams. Red Sox's Liam Hendriks dealt unfortunate injury update

The post Red Sox's Liam Hendriks dealt unfortunate injury update appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Red Sox are reportedly placing veteran reliever Liam Hendriks on the injured list, Chris Cotillo of reports. Advertisement 'Liam Hendriks is headed to the IL, I'm told. Not sure what the issue is. Nick Burdi takes his place,' Cotillo wrote on X, formerly Twitter. As Cotillo reported, Hendriks' injury has yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, he will miss time as he is headed to the injured list. Hendriks has endured ups and downs in the 2025 season. The 36-year-old right-handed hurler has pitched to a 6.59 ERA across 14 outings. In his 13.2 innings of work, Hendriks has recorded 12 strikeouts. The Red Sox will miss Hendriks in the bullpen. Boston needs all of the relief help it can get, so a Hendriks injury is far from ideal to say the least. Advertisement The team will provide further updates on Hendriks' injury and a potential timeline soon. As of this story's writing, there is uncertainty surrounding the situation. The Red Sox have failed to meet their lofty preseason expectations so far. Boston's 27-31 record has the ball club sitting in fourth place in the American League East. The Red Sox have been unable to take advantage of an AL East division that has struggled for the most part — with the New York Yankees being the only exception. Boston is hoping to find a groove sooner rather than later. It is still early enough in the season where the Red Sox have time to turn things around. With that being said, the calendar will flip to June soon, so Boston needs to start winning on a consistent basis. On Friday, the Red Sox will play another team that has not lived up to their preseason expectations in the Atlanta Braves. First pitch for the Red Sox-Braves clash is scheduled for 7:15 PM EST on Friday Night Baseball.

Dodgers rumors: Ken Rosenthal shoots down trade speculation around star rookie

The post Dodgers rumors: Ken Rosenthal shoots down trade speculation around star rookie appeared first on ClutchPoints. Will the Los Angeles Dodgers consider trading rookie catcher/outfielder Dalton Rushing? According to Ken Rosenthal, the chances of LA moving the 24-year-old are slim, something he wrote in a recent article for The Athletic. Advertisement 'It's easy to interpret the Dodgers' recent promotion of rookie Dalton Rushing as the possible prelude to a trade,' Rosenthal wrote. 'But even though Hunter Feduccia could slide into the backup catcher's role, the Dodgers are not inclined to move Rushing, and certainly not for a short-term fix.' Rosenthal also mentioned that Rushing, who can catch and play outfield, could possibly move to left field next season. Of course, he could remain behind the plate as well. Either way, the young and versatile player seems to be in the Dodgers' future plans. Rushing made his MLB debut this season. He is slashing .250/.286/.300 across 21 plate appearances with a .586 OPS. His numbers are nothing to write home about, but it has also been a rather limited sample size. Rushing is the team's No. 1 overall prospect, per His ceiling is high to say the least. Trade rumors are destined to make waves given his potential and the Dodgers' desire to win a championship. Trading Rushing would likely lead to LA landing a superstar at the trade deadline. Advertisement However, Rosenthal is not expecting Los Angeles to move on from the catcher/outfielder yet. The team already features more than enough talent and there are salary concerns to monitor. Keeping Rushing makes the most sense at the moment. The Dodgers might as well see if he can become an impactful player — or even a star — at the MLB level. LA currently holds a 34-22 record, a mark that is good for first place in the National League West. The Dodgers will host the New York Yankees on Friday Night Baseball in a highly anticipated affair at 10:10 PM EST.
