WWE: Backstage updates on plans for SummerSlam PLE 2025
(Image via X/@WWE) After Nights of Champion and Evolution 2 PLE, WWE is back with another edition of SummerSlam Premium Live Event for the year 2025, adding much excitement and thrill amongst the fans and in the WWE Universe. Following WrestleMania 41, this will be the only event hosted for two consecutive days. According to WWE, SummerSlam PLE 2025 is scheduled to take place on August 2-3, 2025. The 38th edition of the show will emanate live from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Backstage reports on SummerSlam PLE 2025 As the SummerSlam 2025 PLE is just a few weeks away from happening, backstage reports have emerged recentl related to the much anticipated event. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the two-night WWE SummerSlam premium live event (PLE) was initially set to feature John Cena facing Cody Rhodes as the main event for night two, with discussions about an undecided stipulation at that time. The report further stated that Gunther was scheduled to compete against CM Punk on night one, which would have concluded with Seth Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. But, following Seth Rollins' injury at the Saturday Night's Main Event (SNME), his appearance in the event remains questionable. In addition to this, the announced matches from the planned lineup till now only include the Women's World Championship Match, Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena, Gunther vs. CM Punk, Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill, Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul, Solo Sikoa vs. Jacob Fatu for the United States Championship in a Steel Cage Match, and Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria replacing Bayley. (Image) The June 23 episode of WWE RAW witnessed some of the most striking moments of all time as it featured top-tier talents in action, including the top star Asuka as a surprise entrant during the Queen of the Ring semi-final segment. During the segment, Jade Cargill and Roxanne Perez locked horns, where the latter took control early, playing mind games and eventually targeting Cargill's left leg, severely compromising it to the point Jade is unable to properly battle. However, Cargill fought back, slamming Perez down with Jaded to pick up the win and secure the spot in the finals. Near the entrance ramp, Cargill celebrated the win as Asuka appeared and the two finalists faced off right near the Queen of the Ring crown, where she addressed her match at the Nights of Champion and cleared the doubt related to Damage CTRL. Asuka reveals the real reason behind her decision on RAW During the Queen of the Ring semi-final segment, Asuka revealed the real reason behind leaving Damage CTRL. She made it clear that the faction is over after she came face-to-face with former stablemate IYO SKY . The confrontation happened while Asuka was talking about her huge Night of Champions match against Jade Cargill to crown the new Queen of the Ring when IYO interrupted, but Asuka wasted no time setting the record straight. Asuka didn't hesitate to set the record straight, telling SKY, 'We are not in Damage CTRL anymore.' With that one line, Asuka confirmed that the faction, that had been introduced in 2022, was finished for good. Asuka declared that the faction Damage CTRL no longer exists and is finished for good.
