Bus driver assaulted, passenger injured, bike rider robbed in midnight attack
Chandigarh: A Volvo bus driver was assaulted, a passenger was seriously injured, and a Rapido rider was robbed allegedly at sword-point by three individuals dressed in traditional Nihang attire near Gaushala Chowk in Sector 44/45 during the early hours of Aug 3. As per information, the attack occurred around midnight, as 33-year-old Rapido rider Lakshay Thapar, a resident of Panchkula, was returning home after completing a ride. According to the FIR filed at Sector 49 Police Station, three men, clad in Nihang robes, allegedly approached a Himachal Pradesh-registered Volvo bus on foot from the wrong side of the road. They were reportedly pushing a motorcycle and forced the bus to a stop. Lakshay, who witnessed the incident, told police that the assailants began verbally abusing and physically assaulting the bus driver using wooden sticks. A passenger, identified as 55-year-old Pardeep Kumar from Anaj Mandi, Kurali, attempted to intervene but was allegedly attacked with swords and sticks, sustaining injuries to his head and hand. While Lakshay tried to film the assault on his mobile phone, one of the attackers allegedly brandished a sword, snatched his phone, and assaulted him with sticks before fleeing the scene. The attackers left behind a motorcycle, which was later seized by police. A PCR team later rushed the injured passenger to the hospital. Lakshay, fearing further violence, fled the scene but returned the next morning to file a formal complaint. Police have registered the case under Sections 281, 118(2), 351(3), 309(6), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused remain at large. Punjab: 4 pose as Nihangs to kidnap woman, hijack car in Mohali; arrested within 10 hours
Representative image MOHALI: Four men in Nihang attire abducted a woman in her own car, pushed her off at Airport Road in Mohali, and drove off with the vehicle in the early hours of Friday. Thanks to quick work by Haryana Police, they were arrested from a gurdwara within 10 hours. The stolen car was recovered from the gurdwara compound in Shahbad town, 70km from Mohali. It's rare that criminals disguise themselves as Nihang or holy Sikh warriors. "We were initially blind in this case. Our teams meticulously traced CCTV footage and tracked the vehicle via toll plaza cameras. The victim was later found abandoned near a mall on Airport Road," said Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans. According to the complaint, crime occurred on intervening night of July 11-12. The woman and her male friend were returning from a film when they were intercepted by four men, dressed as Nihang, riding a motorcycle. They dragged the man out, piled into the car, and abducted the woman. SSP Hans said police's concern was the woman's safety. "Thankfully, she was thrown out unharmed and the suspects fled." Multiple police teams worked the case. The coordinated effort helped trace the suspects. One accused, Shamsher Singh of Gazipur in Gurdaspur district, turned out to be granthi himself. The others in custody are cabbie Satnam Singh of Ludhiana's Raune Kalan village, and two security guards from Jammu's Nawanshahr - Nirmal Singh and Chander Mohan alias Jaildar. The SSP said they planned to sell the car in Delhi.

The suspects were tracked down within 10 hours to a gurdwara in Shahbad, Haryana, where the stolen vehicle was also recovered. The incident unfolded like a scene from a thriller. A woman and her male friend were returning from a late-night movie at Bestech Mall when their car was intercepted near the Lakhnaur turn by four men on a motorcycle. Clad in Nihang robes, the suspects forcibly pulled the man out of the vehicle, abducted the woman, and sped off in her car. Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the police were initially "blind" in the case. "But our teams worked relentlessly, scanning CCTV footage and toll plaza cameras to trace the vehicle. The woman was later found abandoned but unharmed near a mall on Airport Road," he said.
