4 members belonging to same family died at Simhachalam
Visakhapatnam: In the most unfortunate wall collapse incident that occurred at Simhachalam Devasthanam on Chandanotsavam day, four of the same family members died in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. Pilla Umamaheswara Rao (30) and his wife Pilla Sailaja (30) along with her mother P Venkataratnam and aunt G Mahalakshmi died in the incident when they were waiting for the Nijarupa darshan at Rs.300 ticket queue line. Both Umamaheswara and Sailaja were residents of Madhurawada and working in a software company based in Hyderabad. The rest of the family members were inconsolable as they lost four members of their family in the tragic incident. Both Umamaheswara Rao and Sailaja opted for work from home. They got married three years back. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to King George Hospital for the postmortem. The family members of Pilla alleged that they lost their kin because of the negligence of the festival organisation and lack of safe arrangements. The kin of the other three persons who died at Simhachalam also expressed ire that the government neglected in taking proper security measures for the festival. They expressed concern over the construction of a brick wall instead of a concrete wall which was given away after the rainfall. They demanded that the postmortem of the deceased could not be proceeded until justice was meted out to the families at KGH. Following which, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha convinced the family members of the deceased and assured that justice would be meted out to them.

Devotees look forward to witness once-a-year ‘Nijarupa' avatar!
Visakhapatnam: Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy of Simhachalam Devasthanam is all set to take the once-a-year 'Nijarupa' avatar on 'Vaisakha Suddha Tadiya' on Wednesday. Celebrated annually as 'Chandanotsavam' festival, it is on this occasion, the presiding deity of the Devasthanam will give darshan in the idol form sans layers of sandalwood paste. Scores of devotees from different parts of the country will wait in long queues to witness the rarest darshan available on a single day in a year. After special rituals performed for Lord Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and the first darshan facilitated to Simhachalam hereditary trustee P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and his family, the Nijarupa darshan will be made available to common devotees. The district officials are making all arrangements to make the darshan available to common devotees on Wednesday from 3 am. For the first time, technology has been incorporated to manage the crowd. In line with it, drones are being used by the city police for improved crowd management. As many as 2,000 police personnel have been deployed for the purpose on a shift basis. Along with traffic regularisation, the focus is also on queue line maintenance, monitoring of parking spaces, making towing service accessible to clear stuck vehicles, special slots for parking facilities, among other amenities. Special RTC buses are plying for the purpose at various points across the district. In order to help devotees reach uphill, free bus services have also been provided by APSRTC. Even as more than 1 lakh devotees are expected to witness the Nijarupa darshan, officials informed that the turnout is largely going to be based on the weather condition. With darshan tickets being inaccessible for the common devotees days before, it is expected to impact the footfalls at the Simhachalam. As the Rs.1,000 tickets were unavailable to the common devotees, there are allegations that they got sold out much early following the political pressure. As the public representatives in North Andhra belong to the alliance, protocol darshan is expected to include an army of political leaders, their followers and supporters. Except free darshan and Rs 300 darshan tickets, the common devotees are left with no other choice but to opt between these two categories. As a result, the devotees are going to end up waiting in the long queue lines to witness the Nijarupa darshan. Sharing arrangement details, Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao informed that 1,350 sanitary workers have been deployed for sanitation maintenance and over 400 temporary toilets facilitated. He further added that 5,600 water cans are provided at 193 points. District collector MN Harendhira Prasad and City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi examined the Chandanotsavam arrangements at Simhachalam.

High demand for `1,000 ‘Chandanotsavam'
Visakhapatnam: When new movies of superstars are released and cricket matches are scheduled, the tickets generally get exhausted in a jiffy. But this is the first time, Rs 1,000 tickets for 'Chandanotsavam' witness a similar trend. The tickets for common devotees to witness 'Nijarupa darshan' on 'Chandanotsavam' seems to be a distant dream as they turn out to be inaccessible four days before the festival. Devotees from across the country visit Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam to view the 'real Avatar' of the presiding deity on 'Vaisakha Suddha Tadiya' every year celebrated as 'Chandanotsavam'. The exercise of selling tickets for 'Nijarupa' darshan commenced on April 24 in two different categories, including Rs 300 and Rs 1,000. Along with the PR counter at Simhachalam uphill, tickets were sold through five different banks in Visakhapatnam. However, Rs 1,000 tickets have become inaccessible within 24 hours of its sale commencement. Earlier, Rs 1,000 ticket used to be available even if devotees visited the temple on Chandanotsavam day. But this time, even at Simhachalam counter, the tickets were unavailable four days before the festival. Barring Rs 1,000 tickets, free darshan and Rs 300 tickets are now available to devotees. Those, who enter these two queue lines to witness 'Nijarupa' darshan, have to end up trekking three-and-a-half kms. This would take at least four to six hours of their time. With this, common devotees express ire over the inaccessibility of Rs 1,000 tickets as they have been shuttling between the banks and Simhachalam counters to get tickets. 'On Saturday, we visited the Simhachalam counter for Rs 1,000 ticket. However, the staff said it was exhausted by then. We were taken aback by the response as it is very difficult to wait for such long hours in the free darshan queue line,' says G Vijay Kumar, an employee in a private organisation. Apparently, after the sale of Chandanotsavam tickets commenced, there is no announcement from the Devasthanam officials about the sale details. Expressing concerns, a devotee N Mahesh mentions that the officials were announcing that Nirarupa darshan is going to be more accessible to common devotees. But in reality, he points out, it is quite a contrast to the announcement made. 'There is an allegation that Rs 1,000 tickets were blocked for political leaders. And it is very unfair,' he laments. With restrictions in place for the VIPs and protocol tickets, there are allegations that Rs 1,000 tickets are being blocked and diverted to cater to the political pressure.
