Liverpool could make INCREDIBLE Chelsea transfer
Liverpool could potentially make an incredible transfer and sign a current Chelsea star. We've seen this before. The route from a 'failed' Chelsea player to Anfield is well-trodden and very successful. Nike x Air Max LFC x Nike Air Max Advertisement Buy Now LFC Retro Shirts LFC Retro Shirts Buy Now Home Jersey LFC Kits Buy Now LFC Nike Training LFC Nike Training Buy Now Over the years, we've seen the likes of Glen Johnson excel at Liverpool after coming through the ranks at Stamford Bridge. Daniel Sturridge established himself as one of the best strikers in the league after joining Liverpool from Chelsea. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah was once considered a Premier League flop at Chelsea and became one of the best players in the world at Liverpool, and probably one of the best players of all time to ever play for the club. The latest former Chelsea player Liverpool are reaping the rewards of signing is Rio Ngumoha, who at 16-years-old already looks like a very special prospect. Advertisement He could be mentioned in the same breath as Sturridge and Salah in years to come. But he might not be the only one. There could be another player on Richard Hughes' radar this summer. It has been well reported now that Liverpool are looking to bring in a striker this summer. This is the no.1 priority of Hughes as he looks to bolster the club's current options. The main goal for Liverpool is to sign Alexander Isak, who seems like the perfect choice and someone who would slot in perfectly alongside Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah. But if Isak doesn't get done, David Ornstein writing in The Athletic has mentioned a few alternative names. Among them there has been a new name added to the list in Nicolas Jackson. Advertisement According to Ornstein, Hughes was a fan of Jackson while at Bournemouth and while he isn't necessarily a massively realistic candidate, there is a chance for him to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. That's because Chelsea have brought in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, which has cast doubt into the future of Jackson. So, there is a chance Liverpool could make a move for the Senegalese international in what could simply be an incredible move. Not because Jackson is a sensational player but because it would be an incredibly audacious and bold transfer. He's not a proven goal-scorer, and he's not quite hit the ground running at Chelsea. The fact that he would be signed from the club's rivals would also mean Chelsea would try to extort a lot of money from the Reds in order to part ways with Jackson. Advertisement The chances are Liverpool would have to overpay to sign a player with a lot of question marks. Yet, based on the track record of Chelsea 'flops' at Anfield if that's the decision Liverpool make, you'd back Jackson to succeed. Although for now this does feel like a move that Liverpool will only make if they are desperate. But it is one to keep an eye on. Jackson could very well be on the move this summer and there is no guarantee the Reds will sign Isak, so if they miss out on the Swede, the Chelsea star will undoubtedly become an option.

Liverpool flying in for talks with €100m winger
Liverpool are getting closer to another major transfer. They're now flying in for talks with a €100m winger. Liverpool have done some incredible business this summer. Florian Wirtz is the highlight, of course, arriving for a club-record fee from Bayer Leverkusen. Nike x Air Max LFC x Nike Air Max Advertisement Buy Now LFC Retro Shirts LFC Retro Shirts Buy Now Home Jersey LFC Kits Buy Now LFC Nike Training LFC Nike Training Buy Now Wirtz is the Reds' first £100m player. He's one that feels absolutely destined to be a superstar for Liverpool and someone they've chased for a very long time, too. They've made that one happen while also signing Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong to revitalise the full-back positions and hope to push on and grab Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for another record fee. It's all quite insane, honestly. And they might not even stop there. Liverpool are reportedly flying in for talks over another superstar signing within the next week or so. Advertisement Liverpool to fly in for Rodrygo talks AS reports that representatives from Liverpool will fly in for talks about Rodrygo 'in the coming days or weeks'. The Reds are keen to sign the winger but it does hinge on Luis Diaz leaving. Bayern Munich hope to sign Diaz, and they reportedly made a formal offer to Liverpool this week. That was rejected as it fell some way below the asking price. However, the interest in Rodrygo may change things. Diaz quite openly wants to leave the club and the chance to replace him with the Brazilian is a fantastic one. Liverpool have been fans of Rodrygo for a long, long time. This is likely their last chance to sign him as an elite player. Swapping him in for a player who doesn't particularly want to be at the club anymore feels like too good an opportunity to pass up.

Liverpool must address URGENT concern or risk title defence
Liverpool are looking in good shape ahead of the new season, but signings still need to be made. We aren't talking about anything extraordinary, but a centre-back and a striker are required before the fans can begin to consider retaining the Premier League title the team won just two months ago. Advertisement Shop the LFC Store Nike x Air Max LFC x Nike Air Max Buy Now LFC Retro Shirts LFC Retro Shirts Buy Now Home Jersey LFC Kits Buy Now LFC Nike Training LFC Nike Training Buy Now Darwin Nunez might leave, which is a concern since Diogo Jota is sadly no longer with us, and that would leave the forward options in a precarious position. We might see Jayden Danns promoted to the first team, but Arne Slot's plans are still being arranged`since pre-season has only just begun. Even if the Uruguayan remains on Merseyside, you feel as though recruits are necessary, but as we have all seen throughout this summer, the options available feel expensive for the level they're at. But elsewhere, Liverpool have an even bigger concern that doesn't seem to be generating quite the same amount of attention and that is indeed the centre-back position. It's worrying me greatly. Advertisement Liverpool need defenders this summer The Reds essentially played with three centre-backs last season - Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Jarrel Quansah - while Joe Gomez was sidelines for the most part with lingering injury concerns. From the start of that campaign, it was clear that Slot didn't rate Quansah and so his move to Leverkusen feels as though it's beneficial for all parties. But we've now in a frightful position. Someone has to come in to replace the England U21 Euros winner, and ideally they should be homegrown, so that the quota is met - which is an underrated thing that clubs have to abide by. Advertisement The candidate for that position is Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace, who is a few years older, but he is indeed homegrown, he has great leadership qualities as the Eagles' captain and his ability is extremely impressive, making him an essential part of England's international team moving forward. But the London club seem to want around £40m-50m and when he's only got one year left on his deal, that is a bitter pill for Liverpool's recruitment team to swallow. We might wait until next year. So the replacement for Quansah is currently on hold, which is major concern number one. The second is that Konate is set to be out of contract next summer, he is currently unwilling to sign a new deal and Real Madrid are looking at potentially signing him, either for a fee or eventually for free. Advertisement Allowing him to leave for nothing, just like what happened with Trent Alexander-Arnold, doesn't sit right, but the alternative is to sell him this summer if he is destined to play elsewhere in the future. Of the two reliable centre-backs we have, one is Van Dijk who is getting older and might only be around for the next two years, and the other is Konate who is still contemplating things. The obvious way to proceed is to buy two new centre-backs so that the stocks are secure regardless. But if we're honest, Liverpool are staring down the barrel of potentially not even signing one. All signs suggest that Quansah will be replaced by someone, but as well all know, the problems will not end there unless Konate agrees to a new contract - a five-deal has reportedly been rejected. This piece isn't necessarily to suggest any different solutions to the problem. If it were me, I'd have signed Guehi by now and Liverpool would at least have one concern wrapped up and dealt with. Advertisement But as we know, Liverpool have far more considerations to factor in and so that deal hasn't been agreed yet. Will someone be brought in? I'd expect so, but who that might be is a whole other story. Nonetheless, it cannot be understated how crucial that piece of business is. Liverpool will be hoping to retain their Premier League title. Without a legitimate third centre-back, that won't happen.

£45m signing in, £45m signing out: Liverpool's GOLDEN opportunity
Liverpool could be about to do something very special. The Reds have a £45m opportunity here. Liverpool have been about as free as they've ever been with transfers this summer. They've broken their record for a full-back by signing Jeremie Frimpong and then broke it again by signing Milos Kerkez. Nike x Air Max LFC x Nike Air Max Advertisement Buy Now LFC Retro Shirts LFC Retro Shirts Buy Now Home Jersey LFC Kits Buy Now LFC Nike Training LFC Nike Training Buy Now The big one, of course, is Florian Wirtz. He's now the club's record signing, joining from Bayer Leverkusen for £100m. That could eventually stretch to £117m, making him the British transfer record. That's probably the end of the freedom, however. Liverpool boasted that financial flexibility largely because they made a healthy profit last summer before winning the Premier League. Going forward, sales will have to come first in order to trim a slightly bloated squad. Then there are the players who appear to want exits, with Luis Diaz arguably the headline act in that regard. Advertisement There's another delicate situation, however. Ibrahima Konate is now in the final year of his deal and Liverpool have to make a decision. A £45m opportunity might swing everything in their favour, though. £45m in, £45m out Liverpool reportedly want around £45m in order to sell Konate this summer. That's per Marca and other Spanish outlets who suggest the Reds are willing sellers but only for a fairly large price. Real Madrid are the supposed destination. Konate appears to have decided he wants to go there - but whether they're willing to buy him now or wait a year for a free transfer isn't entirely clear. Advertisement The price-tag is an interesting one, though. It's essentially what Crystal Palace want in order to sell Marc Guehi a year early, a player in an identical situation to Konate. He's the defender Liverpool want and with good reason - an established Premier League defender who's also homegrown. The Reds won't do better than that, quite honestly. Getting Konate out and signing Guehi for the same price would be a dream. Technically, this can happen in a year's time as both move for free but getting it done in 2025 would deliver peace of mind. That's something Liverpool could really use rather than another season with contract uncertainty. Advertisement It basically all hinges on Real Madrid offering the Konate money. We'll see on that - it's not something they like to do but they're also struggling right now and need to upgrade their squad. This 'swap' for Liverpool is a chance for everyone to get what they want. Let's see what happens.

Liverpool's wage spending is NOT as bad as you think it is
Liverpool's wage spending is NOT as bad as you think it is Liverpool are one of the most frugal clubs in world football with regard to transfer spending. Many people's response to the statement above is that the wage bill is remarkably high and the fans are purposefully naive to recognise that. In reality, some myth-busting with the salaries is required. Shop the LFC Store The new LFC x Air Max range 🔥 Nike x Air Max LFC x Nike Air Max Advertisement Buy Now LFC Retro Shirts LFC Retro Shirts Buy Now Home Jersey LFC Kits Buy Now LFC Nike Training LFC Nike Training Buy Now Admittedly, the Reds' spending on wages is high. It's one of the highest wages in world football, but to put it simply, there's a good reason why. The transfer fees in comparison are low and sensible. £77m on Darwin Nunez, a potential £116m on Florian Wirtz and record-breaking fees at the time for Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson Becker, do not help our case, but as with most things, context is key. The latter two are the best in their positions, Wirtz may cost just £100m since his add-ons include a Ballon d'Or win, and Nunez's fee is actually £77m is because the extra £8m in add-ons weren't met. Advertisement Now the fees themselves have been cleared up, it's time to contextualise the agreed wage packages. © IMAGO Liverpool's wage spending is actually reasonable According to TBR Football, who broke down the wages per year and the cumulative wage bill since FSG took over in 2010, as well as the wage to turnover ratios for last season, Liverpool spend a lot. For the first metric, it is only fair that I state that Liverpool are expected to spent £400m on wages for the staff and players in this upcoming 2024/25 season, and the overall bill has gone from less than £500million to £4billion over the past 15 years. Our costs in that respect have skyrocketed. Advertisement In the article, Kieran Maguire - a lecturer at the University of Liverpool - said: "The narrative that Liverpool are frugal in the wage department isn't accurate." In general, everyone can agree with that. However, the wage to turnover ratios tell a story. The Reds' percentage is at 63% for the 2023/24 season, which is actually eleventh in the Premier League list, behind Burnley, Newcastle, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Wolves, Everton, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. This is in the context of Liverpool having the second highest wage bill, behind Manchester City. As such, we spend big on wages because we generate a lot of money. Spend reasonable amounts on transfer fees, and keep the players on the payroll for a long time because they're integral. Advertisement Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Van Dijk and Alisson have all been ours for over seven years. And then we can get to the other myth that needs busting regarding Liverpool's wage spending. Players are not attracted to us because we can offer them a high salary, the opposite is in fact true. Van Dijk and Salah are top of the list, with the captain taking home £350,000 a week and the Egyptian taking home £400,000 a week, per Capology. That's with their newly agreed extensions. Why are they on such amounts? Well, Salah has delivered at least 35 goal contributions in each of his last eight seasons with us and Van Dijk is regarded as one of the best centre-backs of all time. Advertisement Third on the list will be Florian Wirtz on £200,000 a week, but he had the world at his feet and could easily have agreed a more financially beneficial move elsewhere. Instead he is in a league where he hasn't proved himself yet and so he is incentivised to perform at his best to earn his bonuses. Beyond that, you've got Robertson on £160,000 a week, who will be leaving either this season for a fee or next season on a free upon the expiration of his contract and then you find Alexis Mac Allister, Alisson and Ryan Gravenberch on £150,000 a week. The Argentinian was our best midfielder last season, our keeper remains the best in the world and Gravenberch is a promising DM who is only 22. Generally speaking, you will struggle to find a player who is being overpaid. The club is world's elite, the expectations on the players are significant and their commitment deserves to be rewarded. So when Liverpool fans defend the club's transfer business using 'net spend', and some rival social media account attempts to use the wage bill in response, they really don't have a leg to stand on.
