Seven, including two girls, in top 100 NEET-UG scorers from Karnataka
BENGALURU: Seven students from Karnataka, including two girls, have made it to the top 100 ranks in the NEET-UG 2025 exam, securing 99.99 percentile. The results were released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday. Among the top achievers are Nikhil Sonnad (AIR 17), Ruchir Gupta (AIR 22), Tejas Shailesh Ghotgalkar (AIR 38), Pranshu Jahagirdar (AIR 42), Harini Sriram (AIR 72), Diganth S (AIR 80), and Nidhi KG (AIR 84). Harini and Nidhi are among the top 20 female candidates in the country, while Nikhil and Ruchir are in the top 20 among male candidates. Nikhil Sonnad from Expert PU College, Mangaluru, also emerged as the state topper. Coming from a family of doctors, Nikhil, son of neurosurgeon Dr Siddappa Sonnad and ophthalmologist Dr Meenakshi, credited his success to consistent effort, strong fundamentals, and the support of his teachers and parents. 'I focused on building a foundation and solving problems from the start. That helped me apply concepts better,' said Nikhil, who hails from Vijayapura. 'I was confident of doing well, but never expected AIR 17.'

Bengaluru: Four students of the state have secured ranks within the top 50 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) results (for admission to medical courses) were announced on Saturday. .Nikhil Sonnad from Expert PU College, Mangaluru, emerged as the state topper with All India Rank (AIR) 17. He scored 670 out of 720 (99.99%). .A native of Vijayapura, Nikhil had previously secured 98.3% in II PU and also bagged the 8th rank in BSc (Agriculture). He now aims to join the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said, 'It was a surprise. I expected a good rank, but not AIR 17.'.'I never followed a rigid schedule. My approach was flexible. Physics was particularly tough this year, but I focused on understanding and carefully reading the questions,' he said. .Born into a family of medicos, Nikhil aspires to pursue cancer research and dreams of becoming a medical Gupta from Alpine Public School and Allen Career Institute, Bengaluru, secured AIR also aims for AIIMS Delhi and credits his parents and teachers for his success. His parents work in the IT sector, and his maternal grandparents have a medical Shailesh Ghotgalkar secured AIR 38. He said he studied from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm in college and continued studying at home in the evenings. NEET 2025: Karnataka students bag seven ranks in top 100, four in top 50

Of these, four students cracked the top 50. As many as 1.5 lakh students had registered, and 1.4 lakh appeared for NEET from Karnataka this year; 83,582 students qualified. The numbers were down from 2024, when 1.5 lakh students appeared and 88,887 qualified. Even then, Karnataka is in the top five states with the most NEET aspirants. Uttar Pradesh sent the maximum number of NEET aspirants with 3.4 lakh (1.7 lakh qualified), followed by Maharashtra (2.5 lakh registered; 1.2 lakh qualified), Rajasthan (1.8 lakh registered; 1.1 lakh qualified), and Bihar (1.6 lakh registered; 80,000 qualified). Tamil Nadu had 1.4 lakh registered and 76,000 qualified candidates. Harini Sriram, AIR 72, was among the top 20 female students in the country. Nikhil Sonnad (AIR 17) and Ruchir Gupta (22) made it to the top 20 male candidates. K Prajwal Singh Rathod, NEET rank 263, was top 10 in the Scheduled Caste category. NEET-2025: Vijayapura boy tops Karnataka
Nikhil Sonnad, a native of Vijayapura who studied in Expert PU College, Mangaluru, emerged as the topper from Karnataka after the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET(UG)-2025 result on Saturday. He got All India Rank (AIR) 17 and scored 670 marks (99.99%) out of 720 in the NEET. He had secured 98.3% in II PU exams in the Science stream this year and is aiming to join the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. He also secured 8th rank in (Agriculture) in CET-2025. Speaking to The Hindu, Nikhil said, 'I have never followed a fixed schedule in studying. I have always been flexible. This year, the NEET was tough. The physics questions were very difficult. But I read and understood carefully without getting nervous and answered them. I did not expect to get AIR-17. Instead, I thought I would get a good rank. So, I am happy to be the State topper.' Being born to doctor parents, Nikhil expressed his desire to pursue a career in cancer research and become a medical entrepreneur after his postgraduate degree. This year, four students from Karnataka made it to top 50 ranks at the All India level. Good grounding in basic concepts helped to do well in NEET, says Karnataka topper
Good grounding in the basic concepts in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects helped in doing well in NEET this year, said Nikhil Sonnad from Expert PU College Mangaluru. With 670 marks and 99.999 percentile, Mr. Sonnad had All India Ranking of 17 and is Karnataka topper in NEET. Mr. Sonnnad, whose parents are doctors in Vijayapura, hopes to get admission in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. About his preparations for NEET, which was tough this year, Mr. Sonnad said he focused on strengthening of basics in the three science subjects. 'The questions were fresh ones and not seen in earlier papers. For questions in Biology, answers were lengthy. As I was strong on basics, I could answer questions effortlessly,' Mr. Sonnad told The Hindu on phone from Vijayapura. Mr. Sonnad is the eldest of the two children of Neurosurgeon Siddu Sonnad and ophthalmologist Meenakshi Sonnad. Other colleges Of the students from Excellent PU College, Moodbidri, Nuthan Krishna topped with score of 599, followed by Khushi Vinay Rachoti (588), Rohit Kamath (582), Sohan Yadal (572) and C.P.
