Four jockeys involved in nasty fall at Ipswich
A horror race fall at Ipswich on Thursday had those watching holding their breath, but early reports from on track indicate the riders are OK. All jockeys involved were conscious while receiving treatment. The fall happened approaching the 100m in the TAB Maiden Plate when the leader, the $1.50 favourite Fast Fun, faultered and fell with Nikita Beriman in the saddle. Three horses following were unable to avoid the fallen horse. Two more coming to grief while the third horse parted company with the rider. Fast Fun had to be euthanised while Zouchase, Haz Styles and Shaque D'amour appeared to have avoided serious injury and were taken back to the tie up stalls for further veterinary assessment. Beriman and Mark Du Plessis were both taken to hospital for further assessment while Tiffani Brooker and Emily Lang were stood down from their remaining rides. From a betting perspective, placings stood as is, with Divine Source ($7) declared the winner with just three other finishers.

Robbie Dolan will sing at memorial service for fellow jockey Nikita Beriman's late dad Dennis
Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan has the voice of an angel. So it seems entirely appropriate that he will sing his own song Stay With Me at a memorial service for the late father of the Irishman's fellow jockey Nikita Beriman. Former trainer Dennis Beriman passed away late last month at age 78 after battling a respiratory illness and it turns out that he was a big fan of Dolan, as both a jockey and a singer. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'His wishes were to be scattered in the ocean with his wife (Sandy),' Beriman said about her dad. 'It'd be a real special moment. His last favourite song was 'Stay With Me' by Robbie Dolan so my family requested me to ask Robbie if he would sing while we scattered the ashes. 'I love Robbie but I actually felt a little weird asking him. I said to him, 'Robbie it's perfectly OK to say no, don't say yes just because you're my mate'.' Beriman need not have worried. Dolan is happy to sing at the memorial service, even though a date and venue are yet to be determined, with most of the family having to come up from Victoria. 'I don't know how Nikita heard my song but she obviously heard it and showed it to her father and he enjoyed it,' said Dolan, who progressed to the top 24 in The Voice in 2022 before being eliminated in the sing-offs. 'It's pretty cool actually to know that was his favourite song before he died. 'It's an honour to do something like that. It's very special for the family.' Beriman, 39, said the memorial service would likely be held near her dad's local pub, the Golden Beach Tavern at the Sunshine Coast. 'He lived with me for the past four years,' the Group 1-winning jockey said. 'The hardest part for me was that my Dad literally adored my daughter (five-year-old Ella) and my daughter absolutely loved her Poppy, she was a Poppy's girl. 'Even when he was in his hospital bed I got my Mum to send me through some videos of Ella saying 'I love you Poppy'. 'They used to have this little saying between each other, like Dad would say 'Hey Ella, guess what?' and she'd be like 'I know, you love me'. 'All he did was continually mention her and I think for me that's the hardest part because she doesn't even mention his name now. 'It's like it hasn't happened. She's just shut off and that's her way of dealing with it.' Beriman was meant to ride in the Group 1 Tattersall's Tiara last weekend on the John Dann -trained Adiella, however the four-year-old was scratched after banging her leg in the paddock in the days leading up to the 1400m feature for fillies and mares. 'I rode with Dad's necklace on, although I'm not superstitious or anything,' Beriman said about her four rides last Saturday at Eagle Farm. 'It would've been special to win on Break Free (which finished runner-up in the first race) given the fact that was Dad's favourite song and he had it as his ringtone for literally the last nine years. 'He loved everyone. Dad would not say a bad word about anybody, he'd always find the good in people.' Dennis Beriman, who was a trainer at Warrnambool for years before shifting to Queensland, was a typical old-school dad who was immensely proud of his kids but rarely praised them because that's not what most fathers from that generation did. One exception was when Nikita won her only Group 1, on Tears I Cry at Flemington in the 2007 Emirates Stakes (1600m), which was also trainer Ciaron Maher's first major success. 'That was the first time he said 'I'm proud of you' and I said 'don't start that s--t now',' Nikita recalled. 'What sticks out for me is when I won on Hearts Are Better in the 3YO Jewel (on the Gold Coast) this year and I came home and he said, 'you looked real good on that, darl'.'

Trainer Louise White chasing another upset result with Financially Famous in $1m Magic Millions National 2YO Classic
Louise White is hoping for a more sedate journey to the Gold Coast on Friday for the $1m Magic Millions 2YO Classic over 1000m. The Sunshine Coast trainer will run Financially Famous in the rich sprint rice. White vividly recalls the helter skelter of the filly's maiden win at Eagle Farm at $41 odds on March 15 when, just minutes later, she was whisked away in a helicopter to fly to the Glitter Strip for the $2m QTIS Jewel Day. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Several jockeys and trainers were forced to split their commitments in Brisbane and the Gold Coast on a 'Super Saturday' featuring 21 metropolitan races due to a major rescheduling following the devastating effects of ex-cyclone Alfred. It meant jockeys such as Sam Collett and Nikita Beriman had just minutes to grab their riding gear and jump in a helicopter bound for the Gold Coast. 'I hadn't been in a helicopter for ages and I hate the drive to the Gold Coast so that was the best trip, the best possible way of getting to the Gold Coast,' White said. 'The jockeys in that race, Nikita Beriman and Sam Collett, they were riding in the first at the Gold Coast. 'They literally got off their horses in Financially Famous' race, ran to the jockeys' room, got their bags and ran out with all their boots and gear still on. 'I literally won and off I went straight away. 'Hopefully it's a nice, easy trip to the Gold Coast this time and not one of those nightmare three-and-a-half trips on a Friday afternoon.' • Derby 'carrot' for filly's prospective new owners $81 roughie Financially Famous will be up against tenacious filly Dragonne Rouge, who is undefeated from three races, including last start in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1200m), for Group 1-winning trainer Shaun Dwyer. The Liam Birchley-trained filly Amosu will also be tough to beat with champion jockey Craig Williams on board. White said Financially Famous' victory at Eagle Farm didn't shock her, given the initial target for the filly was the $1m Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick last month. 'She's only a little horse but she has a lot of attitude,' White said of the filly she bought for just $40,000. 'Everything she's done from the get-go, she's taken that extra step. She's always given us a good feeling. 'That first-up win (at Eagle Farm) wasn't a massive surprise. 'You can look at the odds and everything but she was nominated for the Percy Sykes Stakes, she was paid up for that.' • Doomben Cup runner-by-runner analysis and tips Financially Famous was scratched from the Percy Sykes after battling on a heavy track in the Pat O'Shea Plate (1200m) in Toowoomba in late March before being freshened for her latest mission on Friday night in the hunt for the $600,000 cheque for the winner. Eagle Farm trainer Chris Anderson was delighted to draw barrier three for his filly Get Ready Lass on Friday night. 'She's had four starts and drawn the widest gate on three occasions and the second-widest in the other race,' Anderson said. 'She's only a little but she's got a huge heart. Every time she rides she puts in and that's all you can ask. 'Robbie Dolan will ride on Friday so hopefully Irish eyes are smiling on us.'
