Niklas Süle out with a muscle injury
Niklas Süle came on for Mats Hummels after 18 minutes in the season opener. Shortly before the half-time break, the centre-back went down without contact from anyone around him and had to leave the pitch. Yan Couto came into the game to replace the tall centre-back.

Süle suffered a muscle injury and had to go off just before halftime during Sunday's match against the Italian team. He had only replaced Mats Hummels in the 19th minute of the veteran defender's farewell game. The 36-year-old Hummels, who played for Roma last season after leaving Dortmund for the second time in 2024, was bidding an emotional farewell to the Dortmund fans.

The 36-year-old Hummels, who played for Roma last season after leaving Dortmund for the second time in 2024, was bidding an emotional farewell to the Dortmund fans. Dortmund was already without the injured Nico Schlotterbeck and Emre Can, exacerbating coach Niko Kovac's shortage of defenders before the team starts the season against Rot-Weiss Essen in the first round of the German Cup on Aug. 18. Süle set to miss two months with calf muscle injury
Borussia Dortmund announced on Monday that Niklas Süle sustained a calf muscle injury in the friendly against Juventus. The report from the Ruhrpott club suggests central defender will be 'unavailable for the next two months'. Süle, who was substituted for Mats Hummels on his farewell game, sustained an injury before the half-time break while Yan Couto came on in his place. BVB will therefore be without Süle for the DFB-Pokal clash against Rot-Weiss Essen which is scheduled for Monday, August 18. The 29-year-old centre-half will also be missing for the first five Bundesliga matchdays (against Union Berlin, Heidenheim, Wolfsburg, and Mainz). A longer absence would also jeopardize his role in the top games against RB Leipzig (October 4) and FC Bayern (October 18).
