The Best Hotels in Rome Are a Love Letter to the Eternal City

After a four-year-long renovation of a Rationalist building in Rome's illustrious Piazza Augusto Imperatore, Bulgari Hotel Roma swung open its lavish doors in 2023. The property is within walking distance of city gems like the Pantheon and the Vatican, and presides over the Mausoleum of Augustus. Milanese studio Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel looked after the interiors (the same design cadre enlisted for all of the previous Bulgari Hotel outposts), with the brand's signature mosaics, lacquered wood, and rippled marbles on full display. And the opulence doesn't stop there: Keep an eye out for handblown glass lamps and Ginori vases from the 1930s, and take a moment to appreciate the colorful Brocatelle, red jasper, and Carrara marbles that line the surfaces of each of the hotel's 110 rooms and suites. You'll also need to pay a visit to the spa, which was inspired by the 3rd-century Baths of Caracalla. The 20-meter pool with its eight columns of arabesque marble create a striking centerpiece for enjoying a treatment with Augustinus Bader products—or for simply taking a swim beside the 19th-century replicas of classical statues. The culinary program is equally show-stopping. Under the guidance of three-Michelin-starred Italian chef Niko Romito, the hotel offers six food and beverage outlets reflective of Italy's gastronomic heritage, with Il Ristorante as its crown jewel. The restaurant sits on the fifth floor of the property overlooking the emperor's monumental tomb, if you're looking for a dinner spot with impressive city views. Forget the Milan you know, the one dominated by the fashion hordes and global business set in gleaming towers. The Milan to love is the one you haven't met—until now.

Portrait Milano Hotel One of the most dramatically sited urban properties in Europe, the Portrait Milano Hotel inhabits a massive 16th century seminary in the posh Brera neighborhood. Its cloistered interior courtyard brims with stylish bistro seating scattered between ionic columns; it's also home to one of the city's best concept stores, Antonia. Upstairs, the 73 rooms' decor takes cues from the hotel's fashion royalty owners—the Ferragamo family—by leaning on Milanese postwar glamour rather than old-school palazzo opulence. And then there's the hotel pool hidden deep underground. It's designed like an inviting Roman bathhouse with marble, travertine and even more of those dramatic columns. Rooms from $1,250 Source: Portrait Milano Bulgari Hotel Milano Tucked down a private road in the heart of the city center, Bulgari's first hotel is now a 20-year-old fixture of Milan's A-list. Jet-setting guests sip espresso macchiatos on the snaking sofas that lead to Il Ristorante Niko Romito, where local fashionistas and bankers power-lunch on zingy red prawn linguine. Tasteful and timeless, the rooms pay tribute to the Bulgari brand with framed photos of the fashion house's jewelry. (Angle for one that looks out over the lush foliage of Brera's botanical garden next door.) It's the intuitive and detailed service, however, that makes the hotel stand out from the pack. Upon arriving at a nearby restaurant booked by the Bulgari's front desk, my server offered me a welcome glass of prosecco courtesy of the concierge—a small but thoughtful gesture that explains why loyal visitors keep coming back here year after year. Rooms from $1,700 Source: Bulgari Hotels The Boutique Stay Milan is one of the best hotel cities in the world. The opulent Mandarin Oriental Milan is highly coveted for its masterful culinary offering; the sumptuous, apartment-style suites at the Rocco Forte House are ideal for those seeking complete privacy; and the Four Seasons Hotel Milano, set in an old convent, has just reestablished itself with beautifully renovated rooms (shown here). The problem, however, is that you'll be lucky to find a room under $1,500 at any of them. Your best bet for more practical pricing is Casa Brivio in Ticinese. It's a hotel that gets right to the point: no lobby to lounge in or elaborate breakfast, just simple rooms harking back to the city's mid-mod 1970s. If the architectural chairs and laminated armoires catch your eye, they're by the storied Italian furniture brand Cassina. Rooms from $300 Source: Four Seasons

Bvlgari to Launch Ultra-Luxury Island Resort in Abu Dhabi by 2030

Private beaches, large-scale villas, and a members-only yacht club form the core of the island's layout, designed for privacy, access to water, and long-stay coastal living. Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts is heading to Abu Dhabi — and not just anywhere in the capital, but to a private, horseshoe-shaped island set to become one of the most exclusive addresses in the UAE. Slated to open in 2030, the Bvlgari Resort and Mansions Abu Dhabi will feature architecture inspired by the desert's natural tones and contours, blending contemporary lines with regional influence. Sustainability is also a key part of the project's design. Developed in partnership with Eagle Hills, the island destination will include 60 rooms and suites, among them two signature Bvlgari Suites and a penthouse, along with 30 beachfront villas, each with a private pool and open sea views. The resort will also include 90 mansions ranging from 1,650 to 2,500 square metres, with select estates offering private beaches and docks for 25-metre yachts. Surrounded by panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf, the Abu Dhabi skyline, and Qasr Al Watan, the island will be accessible by bridge or by sea. Its sense of seclusion is matched by a suite of high-end amenities: a 2,000-square-metre Bvlgari Spa, a 1,000-square-metre fitness centre, and a 25-metre lap pool, alongside fine dining concepts including Il Ristorante – Niko Romito and Japanese venue Hōseki. A private Bvlgari Yacht Club, complete with its own beach, marina, and members-only spaces, will serve as a centrepiece of the development.
