Merebank karateka wins bronze medal in championship
A KARATEKA of Ninfu Shito-Ryu in Merebank, Rylee Moodley, showcased his skills on the international stage at the recent Continental Championship in Abuja, earning him a podium finish.
Rylee, a learner of Merebank Secondary School participated at the 2025 UFAK African Continental Karate Championship in Nigeria.

Countless hours of training culminated in him winning a bronze medal for South Africa.
His mother Keroshnie Naidu said hard work, dedication and a never-say-die attitude kept her son in the tournament till the medal rounds.
'Competition was tough as there were 28 participating countries from all over Africa. Rylee said there were difficult fights, a few stupid mistakes, but also moments of clarity, strength and growth,' said Naidu.
Rylee said, 'I feel proud of how I handled it all, continuing to learn and improve myself. I am grateful to have been given this opportunity to represent my country.'

The results of this tournament earned Rylee a World Karate Federation ranking.
'Massive thanks and gratitude to all my coaches who prepared me for this tournament. Immensely proud to have a family like mine always by my side, for believing in me and making my dream a reality.
'Always believe in yourself and your abilities. My family always tells me that if you put in the effort, you will get the result, and remain humble,' he added.
He thanked everyone that helped make his journey possible.
