‘Multilingual, inclusive education being realised at scale'

In 2020, India more than just released a policy – it rekindled an ancient ideal. National Education Policy (NEP) placed learning at the heart of nation building, drawing from civilisational wisdom. Framed through one of the most participatory policy-making processes in history under late K Kasturirangan's guidance, NEP 2020 was a visionary roadmap rooted in cultural values. It reimagined learning as a process free from confines of rote memorisation, rigid structures, and linguistic hierarchies. It set the stage for a holistic, inclusive and future-ready education system. Five years on, NEP's impact is visible in policy corridors and classrooms. In early childhood classrooms, play-based learning is displacing rote memorisation; children read fluently in their mother tongue; Class 6 students explore hands-on skills in vocational labs. Its imprint is visible in research hubs where India's knowledge systems engage in dialogue with cutting-edge science. NEP's vision is reflected in the rise of women in STEM fields and in the growing global presence of Indian institutions. Nipun Bharat Mission has improved learning outcomes, ensuring foundational literacy and numeracy by Class 2. Nipun Bharat's success, reflected in Aser 2024 and Parakh Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024, has made classrooms spaces of curiosity and comprehension. Classes 2-5 teachers in a fix over report deadline

Pune: The state education department has sought evaluation reports by Monday on learning competencies in first language and maths of students of Classes 2-5 under the Nipun Bharat programme, but teachers said it's difficult to meet the deadline given that schools reopened only two weeks ago. The department expects students to be at least 75% competent under set parameters in the subjects by the deadline. The evaluation must cover recognition of all letters and sounds in the alphabet, identification of all letters and vowel signs, writing compound letters and simple sentences using them, counting and reciting numbers from zero to nine in sequence, recognising numbers from 10 to 20, and addition of numbers from zero to four in concrete form. ZP schoolteacher Santosh Jadhav said, "We just began school and students are still settling in. Sending their performance reports immediately is a tough task. That is why there is a lag in submissions." Edu dept wants students' evaluation report by Monday, teachers say deadline difficult to meet

Pune: The state education department has set a target for students from Std II to V to achieve at least 75% learning competency under Nipun Bharat programme. But teachers are facing difficulties meeting the June 30 target. Govt schools across the state have been provided with specific action plans for first language and mathematics subjects for students in these grades. Teachers are directed to evaluate students' competencies and submit reports through Vidya Samiksha Kendra by Monday. Schools reopened two weeks ago and teachers said that the deadline was difficult to meet. Director of primary education Sharad Gosavi said, "Teachers and headmasters are required to make regular efforts to help students achieve the expected competency levels. The department expects teachers to utilise all necessary educational resources to provide enjoyable foundational education to students."
