Hooked on fishing: Garrick, shad on the bite
Shad are currently on the bite along the KZN coast and especially on the South Coast, with early morning and late afternoon being the best times to put a line in.
Anglers are catching larger shad using both bait, such as sardines, and lures like spoons and bucktail jigs.
Reports are that Margate Pier has been good, with anglers landing garrick.
Garrick have also been caught at The Block, where Niren Ghingai bagged a 13kg beauty, and Station Bay in Port Shepstone.
Remember: Bag limits for shad is four. Shad closed season is October 1 to November 30. Responsible fishing helps keep the shoreline clean.
