Nissan Micra goes electric, unveiled in Euope markets. Will it come to India?

Nissan's new electric Micra has been unvieled in Europe, featuring an updated design and advanced EV capabilities The all-new Nissan Mircra EV somewhat retains the circular design aesthetic from the older ICE model. Check Offers Nissan has unveiled the electric iteration of its Micra in the European markets. With most manufacturers turning to making SUVs, Nissan is placing a confident bet on its humble small hatchback. The iconic Nissan Micra will now be entering its sixth generation. Based on the same underpinnings as the Renault 5 E-Tech, the new Micra brings fresh design flair and EV tech to a familiar nameplate. Nissan Micra: Design Designed at Nissan Design Europe in London with the continent's urban buyers in mind, the new Micra breaks away from the conservative styling of its past. It features bold, circular headlights and taillights with body-coloured inserts—an eye-catching detail reminiscent of the 2011 Smart Forspeed Concept. The LED lighting even performs a 'wink' animation when locking or unlocking the car. While the Micra remains a hatchback at heart, it borrows a few SUV-like styling elements, such as black body cladding on the bumpers, side profile and wheel arches, giving it a slightly rugged edge. All variants ride on 18-inch wheels, with a total of 14 colour combinations—including two-tone options with black or grey roofs—to add more visual personality. It measures under 4 metres in length and rides on a 2.54-metre wheelbase. The cabin is configured as a five-seater and offers 326 litres of boot space—ample for urban runs and daily errands. Nissan Micra: Interior Inside, the dashboard is nearly identical to the Renault 5 E-Tech, with dual 10.1-inch digital displays taking centre stage. Nissan adds its own brand identity and unique touches like a moulded Mount Fuji outline between the front seats to distinguish it. Nissan Micra: Powertrain and range Built on the CMF-BEV-based AmpR Small platform, the Micra will be offered in two configurations. The base variant features a 121 bhp electric motor paired with a 40 kWh battery, offering up to 308 km of WLTP-certified range. The higher-spec version gets a 148 bhp motor and a larger 52 kWh battery, extending the range to 408 km. The larger battery supports 100 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 15 to 80 per cent top-up in just 30 minutes. Both variants are equipped with a heat pump, battery heating and cooling functions, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability that allows the Micra to power external devices. Nissan Micra: Handling Nissan promises 'best-in-class' ride and handling, thanks to a low centre of gravity, balanced weight (ranging from 1,400 to 1,524 kg), and a multi-link rear suspension setup. While similar claims were made about the Renault 5 E-Tech, only real-world driving will reveal whether the Micra delivers on this front. Nissan Micra: India Launch? The new Micra is expected to arrive in European showrooms by late 2025. While official pricing has not been announced, it is expected to cost slightly more than the Renault 5 E-Tech, which starts at around €25,000 (approximately ₹ 22.5 lakh). Nissan is positioning the Micra as a more premium offering within its compact EV portfolio. It will soon be joined by other electric models like the new Juke and an upcoming Leaf-based crossover. While there is no official word on whether the new electric Micra will make its way to India, given the rising demand for compact electric cars in urban centres, the Micra EV could potentially be a strong contender. With brands like Tata, MG, and Maruti Suzuki aggressively expanding their electric lineups, Nissan's move could add welcome diversity to India's small EV segment. Nissan Reimagines the MICRA

Nissan has unveiled the sixth-generation MICRA, a fully electric model set to re-enter the European B-segment in 2025. This latest incarnation marks a transformative moment for the long-standing compact car, now offering fully connected, zero-emission mobility while retaining the stylish, accessible personality that made it a mainstay for over four decades. Developed at Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in London, the new MICRA debuts with a striking and assertive exterior inspired by crossover cues. It blends premium finishes with rugged details, including pronounced wheel arches and SUV-like proportions, delivering a confident stance on the road. All variants will be equipped with 18-inch wheels, with a choice of distinct alloy designs depending on the model grade. Lighting plays a central role in the MICRA's bold visual identity. Protruding headlamps perform an animated 'welcome' and 'farewell' light display on unlocking and locking. The rear features LED taillights with elegant, circular patterns, reinforcing the model's modern yet playful aesthetic. Buyers will be able to personalise their vehicles with a selection of 14 colour combinations, including two-tone options featuring black or grey roofs. Inside, the MICRA emphasises minimalism and sophistication. A blend of simple design and subtle nods to Japanese heritage – including a discreet Mount Fuji silhouette in the front storage area- creates a sense of understated elegance. A three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 10.1-inch digital instrument display, while an equally sized touchscreen stretches across the dashboard to manage infotainment and vehicle settings. Customers can choose between three interior trim styles: Modern, Audacious, and Chill. Despite its compact dimensions – just under 4 metres long and less than 1.8 metres wide – the MICRA offers generous space and usability. A long wheelbase enhances interior comfort and handling, while boot space stands at 326 litres, outperforming many rivals in its class. The MICRA will be offered exclusively as a five-door model for simplicity and practicality. For the first time, the MICRA will be available solely as an electric vehicle. Two battery configurations will be offered: a 40kWh pack delivering a 308km range and a more capable 52kWh version with up to 408km, based on real-world testing. Both variants offer brisk acceleration and instant torque, with peak outputs of 120hp and 148hp, respectively. Fast-charging capabilities enhance the MICRA's practicality. The 52kWh version supports 100kW DC charging, enabling a 15% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. The 40kWh variant supports 80kW charging. To optimise efficiency, both configurations come equipped with a heat pump and battery thermal management systems. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality is also included, allowing users to power external electronic devices using the car's battery. Performance has been engineered with precision to suit both city driving and spirited weekend escapes. The MICRA's low centre of gravity – courtesy of its battery placement within the new AmpR shared EV platform – supports its dynamic road behaviour. Suspension design includes independent front struts and a rear multi-link system more commonly found in premium segments, resulting in class-leading handling and ride comfort. With a starting weight of just 1,400kg (1,524kg for the 52kWh variant), the MICRA is notably lighter than many competitors, contributing to its agile and responsive driving character. Technology integration is central to the MICRA's user experience. Google built-in services form the core of the NissanConnect infotainment system, which provides seamless integration between the driver's smartphone and vehicle interface. The NissanConnect app extends connectivity off-board, enabling users to check battery status, find the car's location, review charging history, and remotely manage cabin temperature and charging routines. On the safety front, the MICRA is equipped with the latest driver assistance systems, including Nissan's ProPILOT assist for enhanced highway driving and a wide range of active safety features aimed at protecting occupants and reducing driver workload. Sales for the sixth-generation MICRA will commence in Europe later in 2025, as Nissan reintroduces one of its most iconic models to a new era of electric urban mobility.

Nissan Micra returns as electric hatch with oddball looks

The Nissan Micra has been reinvented for the electric era. Image: Supplied Nissan is returning to the B-segment hatchback market in Europe with a sixth-generation Micra, but it's nothing like the ones that came before it. As a purely electric hatch, the Micra is closely based on the new Renault 5, even sharing body panels such as the doors with its recently reintroduced French sibling. However, the Micra has unique front and rear styling, with large, round LED rings surrounding the headlights, and the taillights adopting a similar shape. These front lights perform a 'welcome wink' by pulsing from left to right and then back again upon unlocking the car. The new Micra is based on the Renault 5. Image: Supplied Despite its compact size, the Micra is available with three different 18-inch wheel designs, as well as 14 exterior colour combinations, including contrasting roof colours. The vehicle will be available with two powertrain combinations. The entry-level 90kW motor pairs with a 40kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 309km, while the perkier 110kW variant packs a 52kWh battery and covers up to 407km. The cabin features two 10.1-inch configurable screen displays, and incorporates Japanese design cues such as a moulded outline of Japan's Mount Fiji on the storage space between the front seats, while the ambient lighting system has 48 different colour options. Customers can choose from three trim flavours: Modern, Audacious and Chilli. The Franco-Japanese cabin has some unique Nissan touches. Image: Supplied 'In designing the sixth generation of the MICRA, we've celebrated all the values that have historically made it so popular – and opened a new chapter for Micra as an EV,' said Giovanny Arroba, Vice President of Nissan Design Europe. 'The exterior has an audacious and playful appearance on first look but has a stance which gives it a solid presence on the road. We've also been able to integrate delightful details into the design, which owners will love.' The new Micra is one of four fully electric models that Nissan plans to introduce in Europe by 2027. At this stage it is unknown whether any of these will make their way to South Africa, whose line-up is currently dominated by the Indian-built Magnite and locally-produced Navara bakkie, as question marks hang over the future of the Rosslyn factory. Nissan GB has restored its bonkers 300bhp mid-engined V6 K12 Micra

Nissan GB has restored its bonkers 300bhp mid-engined V6 K12 Micra The Micra 350SR has been rejuvenated for its 23rd birthday. Arrives just in time to celebrate the new Micra EV Skip 10 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 10 The new all-electric Nissan Micra is coming, and although the straight-edged silhouette gives away its Renault 5 underpinnings, the cute round headlights are a throwback to those on the K12 Micra. So, what better time for Nissan GB to restore its brilliantly bonkers K12-based Micra 350SR. Oh, and it's also this particular Sunderland-built K12's 23rd birthday this year – an important anniversary for Nissan given the Japanese pronunciation of the numbers two (ni) and three (san). Yep, that's also why so many Nissan factory racecars use the number 23. Advertisement - Page continues below Anyway, we're getting sidetracked. Once upon a time this 350SR wore a brilliantly 2000s red and silver livery. It's now been updated by the Nissan Design Europe team in Paddington and gets a satin 'liquid silver' base with blue highlights. Apparently the design of those graphics was inspired by the rear lights of the 300ZX. Nice. The excellent RAYS alloy wheels remain from the 350Z, while new LED headlights provide an even stronger link to the upcoming Micra EV. Inside there's a new 9.0in infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, although Nissan GB reckons you won't be listening to music on the move… That's because the 350SR had its rear seats removed and a 3.5-litre V6 from a Murano shoved into its cabin. The engine was then fitted with headers from a 350Z, NISMO high-lift cams and induction, plus a modified ECU for around 300bhp. Perhaps we should have another go in this car just before we review the EV. Purely for research purposes, of course.
