Shillong: The Meghalaya Police busted an organized inter-state gang, arresting two suspects during a coordinated operation on Tuesday. Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the East Jaintia Hills District Police executed a 'naka' operation under the jurisdiction of Lumshnong Police Station in the early hours. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "During the operation, the team successfully apprehended two persons who are part of inter-state gang and recovered 10.35KG of marijuana, 2,736 Tramadol hydro-chloride capsules, 6000 Nitrazapem tablets and two mobile phones from their possession," East Jaintia Hills SP Vikash Kumar said, adding, the apprehended drug suppliers are suspected to be part of a "larger organised crime syndicate". The operation was initiated after the East Jaintia Hills District police received information on the night of August 18 about individuals travelling from Silchar to Shillong with illegal narcotics on a night bus. The police team, led by Lumshnong Police Station, intercepted the bus at approximately 4 am on August 19, arresting Amol Nath, 42, from Silchar, Assam, and Radika Ranjan Das from Dholai, Tripura. The search, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, resulted in the confiscation of the contraband items. A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigation is on. The superintendent of police has urged anyone with information about other individuals involved in the illegal activities to contact the local police station, assuring that their identities will be kept confidential and suitable rewards will be provided.

Shillong, Aug 19 (UNI) Two inter-state drug traffickers were arrested and seized a huge consignment of illegal drugs in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district in the wee hours of today. Based on credible intelligence input, sleuths of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya Police intercepted a Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) bus on the way to Shillong from Silchar in Barak Valley of Assam. 'During the search of the bus, the ANTF recovered 10.35 Kg of Marijuana. 2,736 Tramadol Hydrocholoride capsules, 6000 Nitrazapem tablets from the bus,' Vikash Kumar, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said. Following the seizure, he said the ANTF arrested drug suppliers identified as Amol Nath of Silchar and Radika Ranjan Das of Tripura's Dholai district. Preliminary investigations indicated that the duo are part of an interstate crime syndicate, involved in narcotics smuggling, Kumar said. Meanwhile, police have booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and investigation is on to establish backward and forward linkages. UNI RRK BM
