Tomoyuki Sugano throws 6 sharp innings, Tyler O'Neill homers again to help Orioles beat Rockies 5-1
Associated Press BALTIMORE (AP) — Tomoyuki Sugano pitched six innings of four-hit ball, Tyler O'Neill homered in a third straight game and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Colorado Rockies 5-1 on Sunday. Dylan Carlson drove in two runs for the Orioles, who followed Saturday night's 18-0 blowout with a more conventional victory in the deciding matchup of a three-game series between last-place clubs. Sugano (8-5) gave up one run, walked two and matched his career high with eight strikeouts. The 35-year-old righty, who signed a one-year contract with Baltimore in December, could be headed to a contender before Friday's trade deadline. Although he was impressive on Sunday, Sugano has yielded 21 homers in 20 games and had a 7.88 ERA over his previous seven starts. After languishing on the injured list from mid-May to early July, O'Neill appears to have found his stroke. Three of his six homers this season came in this series, including a two-run drive in the third inning Sunday off Austin Gomber (0-5) that made it 4-1. Colorado's lone tally came on a solo shot by Warming Bernabel, his first homer in the majors after making his big league debut on Saturday. The Rockies own a 27-78 record, same as the 2024 Chicago White Sox after 105 games. Those White Sox didn't win No. 28 until ending a 21-game skid on Aug. 6, and finished with a single-season record 121 defeats. Myles Rowe Scores First INDY NXT Win
INDYCAR Myles Rowe took a historic INDY NXT by Firestone victory at Iowa Speedway and then took a bow. Rowe earned the INDY NXT by Firestone at Iowa Speedway win by executing a stirring late-race pass for the lead, then held on to become the first Black driver to win a race in this series. His margin at the finish was 1.3927 seconds. SEE: Race Results This is the second season in the series for the 25-year-old Georgia native who resides in New York and in 2023 captured the USF Pro 2000 Championship. 'It's so good,' Rowe said after driving the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy entry to victory lane. 'We've been working a minute for this, and we knew we had the pace. It was about waiting for the last half of the race and seeing what we could do with it.' Fourteen laps from the finish, Rowe went around series points leader Dennis Hauger on the outside in Turn 4 as they came upon lapped traffic. Rowe's experience paid off as Hauger, a series rookie, was competing in just his second oval race. 'We don't stop here -- I'm looking for a lot more than this,' said Rowe, who is fourth in the standings. 'But I'm glad we could get this (win), for sure.' The race featured 130 on-track passes and 55 passes for position, both figures ranking in the top three of INDY NXT by Firestone races staged at this short oval track. Hauger's strong run in Andretti Global's No. 28 Nammo machine helped extend his series lead to 73 points over teammate Lochie Hughes, a rookie driving the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship entry. Hughes finished 16th in the 19-car race after being penalized for a Lap 3 incident with Rowe. Hughes, the winner of last month's oval race at World Wide Technology Raceway, was trying to hold off Rowe for second place when Rowe moved to the inside on the backstretch. Their cars touched, with Hughes' left rear tire taking a brush from Rowe's front wing. Race control deemed that Hughes moved defensively, drawing a drive-through penalty that dropped him down a lap to the field. Andretti Global's Salvador de Alba, who had turned the fastest lap in Friday's practice, finished third in the No. 27 Grupo Indi entry. Several drivers had spins off Turn 4 without contact. HMD Motorsports' Josh Pierson tried to take the high line around teammate Caio Collet for third place on Lap 26, but he lost the back end of the car. On the ensuing restarts, Juan Manuel Correa of HMD Motorsports and Ricardo Escotto of Andretti-Cape Motorsport spun on Lap 30 while Davey Hamilton Jr. of HMD Motorsports did the same on Lap 34. The series will be back in action at the end of the month when a doubleheader is staged at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. Debut solo show radiates clarity
'The Dark Dawn' depicts a bleak state of mind transformed by belief. Right: 'Let There Be Light' conveys that light resides within us all. EMERGING artist Suzane Christie has unveiled 12 deeply personal paintings at her debut solo exhibition that explore the presence as well as absence of inner light. 'I wanted the space to feel like a pause in time – a gentle breath where people could reconnect with their own sense of presence,' Suzane said of her exhibition titled 'Let There Be Light' which is being held at ArtVoice Gallery in Kuala Lumpur. Rooted in the artist's own search for peace and clarity, the exhibition invites guests into a contemplative space shaped by ocean-inspired movement, cosmic colours and a quiet emotional depth. The centrepiece painting, also titled 'Let There Be Light', reflects the exhibition's central theme that conveys that light, even when hidden, resides within us all. Artworks such as 'The Dark Dawn' depict a state of mind that feels bleak but can be powerfully transformed when ignited by single flicker of belief. Suzane Christie 'Minutes to Midnight' expresses the chaos of a mind that cannot yet access light. The largest piece in the show is a 4ft x 10ft diptych entitled 'I Am Divine x I Am Divine II', which suggests that individuals have the power over their minds to illuminate themselves as well as the world around them. At the opening night officiated by well-known Indian singer Preetha Prasad, art lovers, creatives, friends and family gathered to enjoy the works of writer-turned-visual artist Suzane, many saying that they felt personally moved by the paintings. The exhibition is open to the public until July 13 at No.28, Jalan Kovil Hilir, Sentul. Entry is free but viewing is by appointment only. For bookings, call 016-932 2877.
