Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 68: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 68 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 68 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 68 wearer: N/A There is no player currently wearing No. 68 on the Steelers roster. Last five Steelers to wear No. 68: Best No. 68 in Steelers history: DE L.C. Greenwood There's no debating the best No. 68 in Steelers history — L.C. Greenwood was easily the greatest to ever don the jersey. Drafted by Pittsburgh with the 238th overall pick in the 10th round of the 1969 NFL Draft, Greenwood was a pivotal member of the legendary Steel Curtain defense that won four Super Bowls. Playing with the Steelers from 1969 to 1981, Greenwood was named First-team All-Pro twice and earned six Pro Bowl selections. He was also named to the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team, the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team, the Steelers Hall of Honor, and the Pittsburgh Pro Football Hall of Fame. Greenwood is one of the greatest Steelers defenders of all time and deserves every bit of recognition as the best wearer of No. 68 in Pittsburgh. 68 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No.68?
The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 68 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 68 No. 68 currently belongs to no one. That doesn't mean someone won't wear it this year, but it would likely come after roster cutdowns with a new addition off waivers. Best Player: No One Be real, is there a player you see as "special" for the names listed? Two started less than half a season, before they were replaced and Britt only played one game in 2022 before electing to retire. Patterson might end up being the best option, but he only wore the number as a rookie before switching over to No. 54 last offseason. Maybe there's a name that makes the cut in the next five years, but no one belongs with the title of G.O.A.T. entering this fall.
