85 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 85?

85 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 85? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 86 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 85 No. 85 currently belongs to rookie wide receiver Daniel Jackson. The Cal product is a long shot to make the final 3-man roster, but he impressed in several drills during minicamp and OTAs. With Jackson being a rookie, he can't be the best player in franchise history to wear No. 85, though the pickings are slim despite two decades of experience. TE Teagan Quitoriano (2024) WR Noah Brown (2023) TE Pharaoh Brown (2020-2021) TE MyCole Pruitt (2017-2018) WR Nate Washington (2015) TE Joel Dreessen (2007-2011) WR Kevin Walter (2006) WR Corey Bradford (2002-2005) Best Player: TE Joel Dreessen Walter might be the better player, but he switched over to No. 83 after the 2006 season. Dreessen, one of the better blocking tight ends, helped Houston go from a bottom-dwelling offense under Gary Kubiak to an AFC South champion before departing after the 2011 season. In five seasons, Dreesen caught 105 passes for 1,323 yards and 13 TDs. His best season came in 2010, when he totaled career-highs in receptions (36), receiving yards (518) and yards per reception (14.4). His back-to-back promising campaigns led to a payday with the Denver Broncos in 2012. And don't worry about Walter. He's about to show up later this week on the list. Schultz with a solid season will likely take over this spot in 2026, but Gaffney's role as a No. 2 receiver in the early stages of the team's tenure. Gaffney never took over games and was constantly dealing with injuries, but he averaged 42 catches over four seasons. He also finished with seven touchdowns and averaged 13.8 yards per attempt.

Robert Shwartzman explains scary pit road crash after colliding with his crew

Robert Shwartzman explains scary pit road crash after colliding with his crew Robert Shwartzman made Indy 500 history this month, becoming the first rookie driver to win pole position since 1983, but his day ended early before the halfway point in the race after a scary crash on pit road that put several of his crew members in danger. Shwartzman locked his front tires as he pulled into his pit box at speed and was unable to stop, colliding with multiple mechanics. The crew responded quickly and was able to push him backward into position, but the damage to his car caused Prema Racing to retire the No. 85. For what could have been a catastrophic incident, fortunately the early reports were that only one mechanic was being send to the medical center for treatment. Shwartzman said after the crash that he felt that the car may have had a brake issue, and that the team would have to investigate what happened. "I wasn't sure if it was the brakes or because the tires were cold.... As soon as I touch my brakes, my both fronts just locked and I just went straight into the guys," Shwartzman said.

'Might be over': Tennis world reacts to brutal scenes as Kyrgios left in tears

Injury has forced a devastated Nick Kyrgios to retire after just one set in his first round showdown against Botic van de Zandschulp at Indian Wells, in the latest cruel blow for the Aussie tennis star. And many fans are speculating whether it's the last we've seen of the injury-ravaged star. The 29-year-old went into the first Masters 1000 event of the year under a massive cloud after he was spotted clutching at his surgically-repaired wrist during a practice session in the lead-up. The issue proved too much for Kyrgios to overcome as he pulled the pin at a set and 3-0 down in the second stanza and was left in tears at the side of the court. The sad setback denied him a potential second round showdown with Novak Djokovic. Kyrgios battled hard and took the bit-serving Dutchman into a first-set tiebreak but was unable to get the better of the World No.85 as he was edged 9-7 in the breaker. The setback seemed to demoralise Kyrgios and Van de Zandschulp capitalised on an early break in the second stanza, before jumping out to a 3-0 lead. But Kyrgios was clearly battling with his wrist injury and it probably came as little surprise to fans when he was forced to retire in the second set, handing his opponent a straightforward passage to the next round. Kyrgios was on a potential second round collision course with Djokovic but there were always concerns around whether he'd make it that far and Friday's sad drama saw the Aussie's hopes of a dream showdown with the 24-time grand slam winner go up in smoke. It also surely raises serious questions about his future in the sport. The Aussie was clearly gutted as he explained to officials that he could not go on was reduced to tears as he sat courtside with his head between his hands. A dejected Kyrgios eventually picked himself up and left the court to a warm round of applause from the crowd as fans pondered whether it could be the end for the luckless 29-year-old. The 29-year-old was forced to call an early end to his hit-out with Japan's Sho Shimabukuro after vision showed him grabbing at his surgically-repaired wrist and fans lamented that his potential second round clash with Djokovic would probably never eventuate. Kyrgios wheeled away and could be seen wincing in pain in the footage that was shared on social media, sparking major fears for his future. The injury issue is on the same right wrist that has caused Kyrgios countless problems and kept him sidelined from the sport for 18 months. A despondent Kyrgios was then seen clutching at the wrist while sitting courtside with his girlfriend Costeen Hatzi. The Aussie star had surgery on the wrist and underwent months of rehabilitation before making a long-awaited return to tennis at the Brisbane International, where he bowed out in the first round. Kyrgios also exited in the opening round of the Australian Open after a straight-sets defeat to Britain's Jacob Fearnley and he hasn't played since. The Aussie was also battling an abdominal injury against Fearnley but said he didn't want to give up. Kyrgios revealed after his first-round loss at Melbourne Park that he can't see himself ever competing in singles at the Australian Open again after admitting he was still playing through significant pain. He probably would have hoped to manage the pain a little easier in a best-of-three-sets encounter but this latest setback has shown that's not the case. Despite the fact he was out of the sport for so long and is far from his best after a long run of injuries, there's no denying that Kyrgios is one of the biggest drawcards in the sport. Many fans were already looking ahead to his potential second round clash with Djokovic at Indian Wells, and the latest injury has left the tennis world gutted for the Aussie.
