91 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 91?
91 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 91? Who has worn No. 91 since 2002? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 91 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 91 No. 91 currently belongs to Folorunso Fatukasi, who returned to Houston on a one-year deal earlier this offseason. He was Houston's best interior run defender for a unit that finished top 10 in run defense en route to another AFC South division title. He's been a solid depth piece since joining the Texans in 2024, recording 24 tackles and one sack last season. Is Fatukasi the best player to wear No. 91? The list isn't filled with many faces of the franchise-type players, so come back after this season to find out how well he improves to compete for that title. DL Foley Fatukasi (2024-present) DL Hassan Ridgeway(2023) DL Roy Lopez (2021-2022) DE Carlos Watkins (2017-2020) DE Devon Still (2016) LB Jason Ankrah (2014) DE Ricky Sapp (2013) NT Ra'Shon Harris (2011-2012) DT Amobi Akoye (2007-2010) DL Seth Payne (2002-2006) Best Player: Seth Payne Akoye had a case for the title since he was a first-round pick, but he was also expected to become a staple for the franchise as the youngest player ever drafted in the first round. He finished with 10 sacks in four years while Payne, a first-round pick in the expansion draft of 2002, had 9.5 after a promising stint as a rotational player in Jacksonville. As the eighth overall pick in the expansion draft, Payne finally had his chance to start. Over four seasons, he started 46 games, helping Houston become a franchise on the come-up. That has to carry some weight , right?

Darius Alexander will believe in New York Giants' coaching: Trust in the plan'
Darius Alexander will believe in New York Giants' coaching: Trust in the plan' Day 1 of the New York Giants rookie minicamp was an overall success. Rookies who were drafted, signed as undrafted free agents, or simply invited to the minicamp got to hear from Michael Strahan and work with the Giants' coaching staff to understand the differences between the NFL and collegiate games. Of the Giants' seven draft picks, four were selected to speak with the media after practice on Friday. Defensive tackle Darius Alexander, selected with the first pick in the third round, played college football at Toledo. While there, he played for four different defensive line coaches and improved each year under a new coach. That's no easy feat; every coach is different and will require you to play slightly differently than another coach. Alexander adjusted his mindset and made himself coachable. "For me, it was just being able to buy into what my coaches was teaching me," he said. "Whatever I did learn before, don't bring that to the table with them, learn their drill, learn their work ethic, how they want me to work, pursue my things out there, and then maybe I could go back and add those little things that I had in my game before I added them into my game. But more than anything, just believe in your coaching and trust in the plan that they got for you." Given how that played out, and despite having offers from other schools with NIL opportunities, Alexander remained at Toledo. He admitted it was tempting to get those offers, but it was more important to him to remain at Toledo and finish his career the right way with his teammates. He "didn't want to chase money" and doesn't always believe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. "I wanted to chase the goal to play in the NFL and win another championship in the MAC and finish it the right way with my teammates and my brothers," Alexander said. He understands why players want to explore NIL deals, "But for me, I just want to stay true to myself and stay where I was at." Alexander clearly has a solid foundation under him; he's focused on the right things and not the nonsense. He was also given the No. 91 to wear, and he understands the significance. He hasn't heard from Justin Tuck yet, but he knows he's wearing the number of one of the greatest Giants' defenders ever. Tuck holds the record for the most quarterback hits (120) over his career. If Alexander plays his cards right and does well, that number might become permanent.

Kansas City Chiefs rookie Ashton Gillotte explains the significance of his jersey number
Kansas City Chiefs rookie Ashton Gillotte explains the significance of his jersey number The Kansas City Chiefs selected defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte in the third round with the 66th pick in last weekend's draft, solidifying another high-potential player for coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. On Saturday, he met with the media at rookie camp and shared the story behind his jersey number. "Obviously, I started my college career in it, and it wasn't my first choice because obviously in high school I played in (number) nine," said Gillotte, "but I think going back to that is kind of symbolic in a lot of ways and meaningful to me just to have the option to go back into that number. Started my college career like that, so I'm going to start my NFL career like that too, so it's a good omen." The No. 97 jersey was last assigned to Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who has since switched to No. 91 to start the 2025 season. During his last season at Louisville, Gillotte earned Second-team All-ACC honors. He led the Cardinals with 10 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks and started 12 games with 43 total tackles.

Chiefs DL Felix Anudike-Uzomah officially changed his jersey number for 2025 season
Chiefs DL Felix Anudike-Uzomah officially changed his jersey number for 2025 season This week, the Kansas City Chiefs released the jersey numbers for their rookie class from the 2025 NFL draft. Though there weren't any major surprises in the highly anticipated reveal, some eagle-eyed Chiefs fans noticed that third-round pick Ashton Gillotte had been assigned No. 97, which defensive lineman Felix Anudike-Uzomah had previously worn. In a post to Instagram shortly after the announcement, Anudike-Uzomah confirmed that he is set to don the No. 91 jersey next season, marking a return to the number he wore as a collegian during his time with the Kansas State Wildcats. A screenshot of Anudike-Uzomah's message was shared by user @Vince_Lovergine on Twitter: In years past, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi wore the No. 91 jersey, but the number became available when the former Florida State Seminole signed with the New York Jets in free agency. Both Gillotte and Anudike-Uzomah will be counted on to help lead Kansas City's revamped pass-rush in 2025, and both young linemen are heading into the offseason ready to help the Chiefs get back to the Super Bowl, regardless of which jersey number they wear.
