Kevin Durant Trade Rumors Expected to Intensify in Coming Weeks
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The NBA offseason is slowly approaching. Although the NBA Finals are set to start on Thursday between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers, the offseason is every much at the forefront of people's minds. More Kevin Durant news: Kevin Durant's Future in Phoenix Has Reportedly Been Decided While that is going on, many are wondering about the future of Phoenix Suns superstar forward Kevin Durant. All signs point to Durant likely having a new home for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Only time will tell, but it appears that trade talks surrounding Druant will intensify in the coming weeks. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the news on Wednesday. Kevin Durant #35 of the Phoenix Suns looks on during the first quarter of the game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center on February 01, 2025 in Portland, Oregon. Photo by"Conversations will now begin to pick up on a potential trade of Kevin Durant out of Phoenix over the next 2 to 3 weeks. Conversations will begin to heat up," said Charania. "The Suns will work with All-Star forward Kevin Durant and his business partner, Boardroom CEO Rich Kleiman, on his next landing spot. He is expected to have a robust market of approximately four to six seriously interested teams this offseason." Shams on KD: "Conversations will now begin to pick up on a potential trade of Kevin Durant out of Phoenix over the next 2 to 3 weeks. Conversations will begin to heat up. 4 to 6 teams seriously interested in Durant potentially ahead of the NBA Draft" — Oh No He Didn't (@ohnohedidnt24) June 4, 2025 Durant has spent the past two-plus seasons in Phoenix, and to say it's been a letdown would be putting it lightly. He was dealt to the Suns in a blockbuster move before the 2023 trade deadline, coming over from Brooklyn in a deal that was supposed to shift the balance of power in the West. That year, Phoenix snagged the fourth seed but was bounced in the second round by the eventual champs, the Denver Nuggets. The following season didn't go much better—Phoenix landed the sixth seed only to get swept by the upstart Timberwolves in the opening round. And this past year? It was a disaster. The Suns fell completely out of postseason contention, finishing 11th in the West and missing the play-in altogether. Phoenix seemed disinterested in the second half of the season, and their record reflected that. Durant now has a chance to start elsewhere once again as he is set to enter his age-37 season. It's been quite the roller coaster for Durant since leaving the Golden State Warriors in the summer of 2019. He has been with two squads in the past six seasons and has yet to reach the conference finals during that span. In all likelihood, Durant will join his fifth team of his career, the only question is, where will he go? Giannis Antetokounmpo declines to address Bucks future after another first-round playoff exit: 'I wish I was still playing'
The Milwaukee Bucks' season is over, but the questions are just beginning. With rumors swirling about Giannis Antetokounmpo's future in Milwaukee, the Bucks superstar declined to address the situation following the team's loss to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. Antetokounmpo, who stated multiple times he wants to play for a perennial championship contender, was asked whether that's possible with the Bucks. He didn't want to engage with the question. Giannis on whether he can still win chips in Milwaukee:"I'm not gonna do this. Whatever I say I know it's going to translate. I don't know man. I wish I was still playing" — Oh No He Didn't (@ohnohedidnt24) April 30, 2025 Antetokounmpo initially said he didn't want to get into it, knowing whatever he said would make headlines Wednesday. He then said, "I don't know, man. I wish I was still playing." Tuesday's 119-118 loss eliminated the Bucks from the postseason, giving the team its third straight first-round exit in the playoffs. While the Bucks were the lower seed this time around, the team lost in the first round despite earning the No. 1 seed and No. 3 seed the last two seasons. The future in Milwaukee looks bleak. The Bucks don't own a first-round pick in this year's draft, are not a particularly young team and may not have Damian Lillard back next season as he recovers from an Achilles injury. That sets up a difficult situation for Bucks general manager Jon Horst, who the team signed to a multi-year extension in April. Antetokounmpo has consistently said he wants to play for a team with championship aspirations. If he no longer believes that's possible with the Bucks, Antetokounmpo could force Horst's hand by demanding a trade. Antetokounmpo is signed through the next two seasons and carries a player option in 2027-28. But even if Antetokounmpo is fine sticking it out, it might be in Horst's best interest to trade away the team's superstar. Antetokounmpo, 30, would undoubtedly bring back a lot of resources the Bucks could use to turn around their roster quickly. It would be a massive blow to the fan base to see Antetokounmpo leave, but it might be the best thing for the franchise. While Antetokounmpo's status will be arguably the biggest story of the NBA offseason, his answer Tuesday was lost in the shuffle after some on-court fireworks. Following the team's loss, Antetokounmpo got into a heated exchange with Tyrese Haliburton's father, who taunted Antetokounmpo after the game. Antetokounmpo also got into a verbal altercation with Pacers forward Bennedict Mathurin in a separate post-game incident. Antetokounmpo addressed the altercations after the game, saying he believes in "being humble in victory." Haliburton said his father was in the wrong. The Pacers star added he would talk to his father about the incident. For Antetokounmpo, those moments could be the last he spends in a Bucks uniform. Despite everything he's accomplished with the franchise — including leading the team to a championship in 2021 — Tuesday's on-court incidents would mark a disappointing end to an otherwise excellent run in Milwaukee.
