'Presidency Is Literally For Sale To Highest Bidder': Backlash Mounts As Trump Defends Qatari Jet Gift
US President Donald Trump waves as he boards Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on April 29, 2025 as he departs for a rally in Michigan to mark his 100th day in office. AFP The Trump family struck a deal late last month to build a luxury golf resort in Qatar There are suggestions Trump has sold the presidency "to the highest bidder" Others say Trump will even sell sensitive information to US adversaries President Donald Trump and his administration have been facing heightened pressure from critics, as they slam the former's decision to accept the private jet given as a "gift" by the Qatari royal family to the Republican frontman. Backlash mounted over the weekend as Trump insisted that he shouldn't refuse gifts and should be grateful to Qatar for their gift. He also claimed that the 747-8 jumbo jet was actually a donation to the Defense Department, and not to him personally. However, there have been questions on the royal gift potentially having constitutional conflicts. Trump's "price is right" moment in question As the president continues to insist that it would be "stupid" to reject a "generous" donation from the Qatari royals, people are using Elon Musk-owned X to express their concerns. Attorney Tristan Snell said there may be a connection between the Trump Organization's multi-billion-dollar golf resort project in Qatar and the gifted jet. Last week — Trump announces he's building a $5.5 billion golf resort in QatarToday — Qatar announces it's giving Trump a $400 million private jet The American presidency is literally for sale to the highest bidder — Tristan Snell (@TristanSnell) May 11, 2025 The Trump family struck a deal late last month to build a luxury golf resort in Qatar despite the potential conflicts of interest that many have raised in recent weeks over his foreign business dealings. "The American presidency is literally for sale to the highest bidder," Snell wrote of the potential link between the two developments. Prominent podcaster Tyler Cohen called it "likely the most blatant example of bribery in modern presidential history." Trump is accepting a luxury jumbo jet as a gift from Qatar that will be transferred for his personal use. It is likely the most blatant example of bribery in modern presidential history. — No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen (@NoLieWithBTC) May 11, 2025 Former GOP House member Joe Walsh also weighed in on the matter, saying the president "is who he is," wherein he will sell even the nation's "most sensitive intelligence to our enemies if he could personally profit from it." Walsh added that the more disturbing part of the problem was that Republicans will not say anything about his questionable actions. Trump is who he is. He'd sell our most sensitive intelligence to our enemies if he could personally profit from it. Of course Trump will accept a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar. Trump is a traitor. But here's what's worse. No Republican will say a thing. None of them will.👇 — Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) May 12, 2025 Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts took advantage of the backlash, calling out Trump for his "corrupt and unconstitutional" acceptance of the gift. "He's making deals for himself while making life less affordable for you," she wrote Monday. The official X handle of the Republicans Against Trump nonprofit posted an old video of Trump calling on Qatar to end its funding of terrorism and extremist groups. "Turns out terrorism's not a problem if the price is right," the group wrote. Donald Trump in 2017: Qatar has been a funder of terrorism at a very high level. Today: Accepts a $400 million jet from Qatar, praises its leadership, and is set to visit it as one of the first countries in his second term while his family builds a luxury golf resort there.… — Republicans against Trump (@RpsAgainstTrump) May 13, 2025 The U.S. president has been receiving constant criticism in recent weeks due to his actions around various issues, including his foreign policies, trade-relation orders, and his federal downsizing. © Copyright IBTimes 2024. Critics Slam Trump's 100% Tariffs On All Foreign Movies Over 'Dying' Hollywood
Hollywood PixabayPatrickBlaise Trump said the incentive offers from other countries were 'a national security threat' He said other countries were stealing American 'movie making capabilities' Some X users criticized the new tariffs, saying they will only be a burden to American moviegoers President Donald Trump on Sunday announced 100% tariffs on all foreign movies coming into the United States as he attempts to save what he said was a "dying" American movie industry. For Trump, the supposed incentive offer of some countries to draw out American filmmakers and studios out of home turf was "a concerted effort" and therefore is "a national security threat," as per his Sunday post on Truth Social. Trump Wants 'Movies Made in America' The Republican strongman went on to accuse nations recruiting American film talent of engaging in "messaging and propaganda," which is leading Hollywood and the broader American movie industry toward "a very fast death." He then authorized the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative to immediately begin processing the institution of 100% tariffs on "any and all movies coming into our country that are produced in foreign lands." Speaking with reporters outside the White House later in the day, Trump explained that other nations "have been stealing" the country's "movie making abilities," reiterating that he did "very strong research" to come to such a strong conclusion that the U.S. is now producing very few films. "Hollywood is being destroyed. You have a grossly incompetent governor that allowed that to happen... Other nations have stolen our movie should have a tariff on movies that come sort of a threat to our country in a sense" - Pres. Trump on movie tariffs — Howard Mortman (@HowardMortman) May 5, 2025 Critics Call Out New Tariffs Many X users criticized Trump's plan to levy new duties on movies produced outside the country, with most reiterating that the costs will be on the American taxpayer once more. "This will significantly raise the price of movie tickets and help put movie theaters out of business," wrote podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen. Trump just announced he is imposing a 100% tariff on 'all movies that are produced in foreign lands.' This will significantly raise the price of movie tickets and help put movie theaters out of business. — No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen (@NoLieWithBTC) May 5, 2025 American journalist James Surowiecki said no law gives the president the power or authority to impose tariffs on films made overseas, and more importantly, the local film industry's situation is "not an economic emergency." He urged studios to "immediately sue" if Trump carries on with his plan to impose duties on foreign movies. There is no law that gives Trump the power to impose tariffs on movies made abroad. It's not an economic emergency. It doesn't constitute a plausible threat to national security. I have no idea if he's really going to do this, but if he does, every studio should immediately sue. — James Surowiecki (@JamesSurowiecki) May 5, 2025 Yashar Ali, another U.S. journalist, noted how many American films are actually filmed in other countries such as Canada and eastern Europe "due to tax incentives and product costs overall." One user questioned why Trump needed to be "punitive" instead of making counteroffers or better incentives for filmmakers, given how making movies is already expensive as it is. Trump has yet to address concerns over the impact his tariffs will have on moviegoers and the broader American film industry. © Copyright IBTimes 2024. All rights reserved.

Here's Why Donald Trump Is Going To Pave The White House Rose Garden
Last month, the New York Times reported that Donald Trump was considering paving over the grass of the White House Rose Garden and replacing it with a patio similar to something he has in Mar-a-Lago. For what it's worth, here's a look at Mar-a-Lago: New York Daily News Archive / NY Daily News via Getty Images I assume this is the patio area: Well, apparently this patch of grass is too much! Trump has had enough! He explained on Fox why he was going to pave over the grass: Trump just announced he is going to 'pave over' Jackie Kennedy's White House Rose Garden to look like the patio at Mar-a-Lago. — No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen (@NoLieWithBTC) March 19, 2025 Fox/ Twitter: @NoLieWithBTC "What was happening is that that's supposed to have events. Every event you have is soaking wet. It's soaking wet," he said. "The women with the high heels. It's just too much." "The grass it just doesn't work," he continued. "We use it for press conferences and it just doesn't work because people fall into the wet." So, there you go! Say bye bye to the grass. It just doesn't work!
