Yogendra Tiku shares how side actors don't get their due credit in Bollywood, says 'Role was cut by...'

In the world of Bollywood's glitz and glamour, where stardom is measured by screen time, fan-following, and red carpet appearances, moviegoers often become ignorant about the consistency, nuance, and transformative work of supporting actors. Indeed, the side actors who play the pivotal roles of friends, siblings, villains, or comic reliefs are important for the narrative structure of any movie. However, when it comes to name, fame, remuneration, and due credit, these actors often struggle a lot. Talking about the same, actor Yogendra Tiku, who is known for his roles in movies like No One Killed Jessica, Queen, and Neerja, shared his experience in an exclusive interview with Tiku, who has been a part of some well-performed films, emphasised and said, 'Badi movies mei due credits nahi milte.' Yogendra Tiku has been in the industry for more than three decades. He started his career with theatre and has also featured in TV, movies, and now OTTs. When he was asked whether he ever faced a different level of treatment in terms of roles, recognition, and remuneration in any of these three spaces, the actor said, 'Recognition ka mujhe nahi pata, lekin I am always on the lookout for good scripts, good roles, and storylines. I did not do TV much because it was time-consuming. Money doesn't really matter to me. Mujhe role accha mil gaya na toh I am satisfied.' Talking on the same lines, Yogendra shared one of his experiences when he was called on a movie set, but then, because the lead actor had some other commitments, Yogendra's shoot couldn't take place. He said, 'See, this is the difference between star-studded systems and movies which don't feature a big name. For them (star-studded movies), the most important person is the actor because on his face value the movie is being made. In these cases, I certainly feel out of place.' 'There was once an incident when I was doing a film. I was asked to come on a certain date and time, and I reached. Later on, I came to know that the lead actor of the movie had to go for some other commitment and it affected my shoot too. It did not feel nice at all.' Yogendra Tiku Talks About Due Credits Not Given to Side Actors When the actor was asked whether he didn't get his due credit in movies, he replied by saying, 'Once it happened, I was doing a specific role in a specific film. I don't know what happened, but the director, who himself was an actor, felt that my role overshadowed his scenes. Upon watching that, he started cutting my roles from the movie and did different short takings. Aise ke agar mera scene hai and mujhe dialogue bolna hai toh woh camera side se le jaega and mujhe passing mei rakhega. Ya agar mujhe uske sath scene karna hai koi toh camera ka angle aise rakhega jaha mera face dikhe na. Obviously, you feel bad about these things because you know everyone is here for good performance.' He added, 'See, if you are acting on stage, that has a different meaning compared to on-screen. So hota hai, badi filmon mei due credits nahi milte.' Coming to Yogendra Tiku's work front, he was recently seen in His Story of Itihaas, which was released on the big screens on May 30, 2025.

Inspired by films of '70s and '80s for ‘Raid' franchise, says director Raj Kumar Gupta

Mumbai, Filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta says he weaved in elements of the many Hindi cinema classics from the 1970s and 1980s to the "Raid" franchise, headlined by Ajay Devgn. The franchise follows the story of an honest officer Amay Patnaik , who goes after powerful people and conducts income-tax raids to track white-collar crimes. The director, known for films like 'Aamir', 'No One Killed Jessica', has huge posters of iconic films 'Deewar' and 'Sholay' in his office in suburban Mumbai but the inspirations behind the "Raid" movies were far more varied. "There were a lot of films in the '70s and '80s, where upright characters were fighting people who were corrupt or who were going against the law. There are a lot of films that inspired us. I will not want to name any particular film. "So, this upright officer was intended to be like that of the '70s and '80s movies," Gupta told PTI in an interview. The inspiration for the characters and story also comes from real life, he added. "You see a lot of upright officers working in government departments and what they have to go through when they are doing their job," he said. The first "Raid" movie, which was released in 2018, became a blockbuster upon its release. Set in 1981 Lucknow, the film was based on a real-life case and followed Patnaik as he led a high-stakes raid on corrupt politician Rameshwar Singh . Gupta recently came out with the second part, titled "Raid 2". The movie, which released in theatres on May 1, has minted over ₹160 crore at the box office. In the movie, Devgn's character returns for his 75th raid, this time targeting Dada Manohar Bhai , a revered politician in Bhoj, Rajasthan. Despite facing suspension during the operation, Patnaik, with support from his wife Malini and his team, uncovers hidden black money. The director said he is 'elated' with the response to the sequel. 'I'm happy that the film is doing so really well. For us, as storytellers, it has been a challenge post pandemic where people have not been coming to theatres. If a film comes along, and people come and watch it in those numbers, then it's really heartening, not only for me as a filmmaker but as an industry as well,' Gupta said. 'I'm happy that people are watching the film in totality for its story, cast and everything, besides it has a 'Raid' legacy to it as well,' he said. He is also grateful to veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, who liked the first movie and suggested him a scene involving Devgn's character throwing money on a mob to distract them from attacking him and his team. The filmmaker said he was able to incorporate the sequence in the sequel. 'Salim sahab is a legend. I met him in 2021 and he said he liked the film. He made an observation about the ending of 'Raid' one, and I had kept that in my mind. I never thought that I'd be able to use it, but as luck would have it, there was a scene where we could incorporate it in 'Raid' . "During the research of 'Raid 2', we came across a thing that in the 80s, 90s, the threat that the income tax people had while they were going on a raid was mob fury of strongmen, of politicians or powerful people whom they used to raid. Mostly, they used to get attacked by these people during the 80s or 90s,' Gupta said. "Raid 2" ends with a hint at a third installment as Rameshwar Singh proposes an alliance with Dada Bhai inside the jail. Asked about the plans for a third part, Gupta said he won't make it until he has a compelling story. 'When it happens, one would know about it. Nothing can be pre-planned right now. I want to live in the moment and let 'Raid 2' get out of my system. This world is so interesting... Part one and part two has a natural progression into part three. But the right story has to come along for that to happen.' 'Raid 2' is backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak under their banners T-Series and Panorama Studios, respectively.

Raid 2 box office collection day 9: Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh film crosses ₹100 crore

Raid 2 box office collection day 9: Ajay Devgn's latest released in theatres nationwide on May 1. The sequel to his 2018 hit, Raid, the film also stars Vaani Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh in key roles. As per the latest update on the film has been doing well at the box office, and crossed the ₹100 crore mark in India. (Also read: Ajay Devgn says there is no point in blaming officers or corruption: 'Woh hum mein se ek hain') The report points out that Raid 2 collected ₹4.46 crore on Friday, as per early estimates. The film had minted ₹ 95.75 crore by the end of its first week in the theatres. Now, with the collections on its second Friday into account, Raid 2 has managed to cross the ₹100 crore mark. Its overall collections now stand at ₹100.21 crore. The Ajay Devgn film had a good opening day haul on with ₹19.25 crore. Raid 2 had a better opening than Ajay's 2022 release Drishyam 2, which earned ₹15.38 crore at the domestic box office. It maintained the box office momentum in its first week despite new releases. The report also pointed out that Raid 2 had an overall 9.04% Hindi Occupancy on Friday. Raid 2 sees Ajay return as Indian Revenue Service Officer Amay Patnaik, who conducts a raid on Dada Manohar Bhai's property. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, along with Saurabh Shukla in a special appearance, reprising his role from Raid. An excerpt from the Hindustan Times review of the film reads, 'The film begins promisingly, with a twist at almost every turn in the first half, keeping the audiences guessing. Raj Kumar Gupta, known for helming thrillers such as No One Killed Jessica, maintains a firm grip on the unfolding events. However, the biggest drawback of Raid 2, set around the 1990s, lies in its reliance on convenience. Amay, our hero, consistently gets help from people with shocking ease. This means Riteish's character arc as Dada bhai is undermined.'
