Your Stories Q&A: When will Thruway exit 34A in DeWitt reopen?
DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You ask, we answer!Exit 34A in DeWitt, closed last month so crews could work on the interchange bridge that takes eastbound drivers to I-481. The NYS Thruway Authority said the interchange bridge that goes over I-90 was built in the early 1970s. It estimates that about 10,000 cars use it daily. The exit 34A eastbound ramp will be closed until mid-June, according to the Thruway Authority. Detour signs are up, urging eastbound Thruway drivers to use exit 35, near Carrier Circle. If you fail to take that detour, you'll have to drive to Canastota before you can exit. While exit 34A is expected to reopen in mid-June, the entire rehabilitation project is expected to continue into the fall. The total project is estimated to cost $3.9 million. Your Stories Q&A: Uncle Chubby's in Clay reopening after being closed for 18 months
CLAY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You ask, we answer! We have an update on the Q&A about what's next for the closed Uncle Chubby's Bar and Grill. Since it shuttered in November of 2023, viewers have been asking, what's next for the once popular pizza spot off Caughdenoy Road, near 481. It turns out, Uncle Chubby's is next. Owner Val Wilkins said the plan to sell the building to an out-of-state company fell through. That company was supposed to open another restaurant where Uncle Chubby's operated for 25 years. With the sale off the table, Wilkins said the family decided to reopen to its loyal customers who flocked there for the pizza and wings. The family said that when they closed in 2023, it wasn't due to a lack of customers. They just thought it was time to do something else. The grand reopening was Monday, May 12. Wilkins said the bar and grill will only be open evenings until they can hire enough staff to offer lunch as well. The same popular menu is back, with a few new items. At one time, there were three Chubby's restaurants in CNY. The original one was on Wolf Street in Syracuse. Central Square and Clay were the other locations. Submit a form. Your Stories Q&A: Is my Social Security number shown when a store scans my REAL ID license?
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You ask, we answer! Viewer Question: I had to give my Social Security number at the DMV to get my license. Can a store clerk see that when they scan my REAL ID? No, according to the New York State DMV. Only the information on your license is shown. The Director of Public Information sent us the following statement: 'When a business or law enforcement scans a driver license, learner permit or non-driver ID, it allows them to validate the State-issued ID that has been presented to them rather than relying on a visual inspection of the document. That scan only gives the business or law enforcement information that is already on the ID card that has been presented. That information does not include your social security number. Nothing changes with someone having a REAL ID or Enhanced ID.' A spokesperson for Tops Friendly Markets told NewsChannel 9 that when cashiers scan a license, they can only see that a person's date of birth has been verified. Submit a form. Your Stories Q&A: Utica bakery known for its half-moon cookies opening spot in Manlius
MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — You ask, we answer! We have an update on what's moving into a closed coffee café in Manlius. If you know about Jelly Bun Month and Moon Madness, then you're familiar with Holland Farms, just outside of Utica in Yorkville. The owner of Holland Farms, Heather Potrzeba, confirms they are opening up its second location, inside the closed Café Kubal. The unique looking building is located at the Highbridge Road/Fayette Street split. Portzeba made the annoucement to the Manlius community on Facebook: 'Get ready for 10 plus kinds of half moons, donuts, the best coffee and specialty hot and iced coffee drinks, deli, hot lunch specials and soups, cookies, custom cakes, cupcakes, wedding cakes, dairy products, cannoli's, eclairs, cream pies, cheesecakes, two crust pies, white mountain rolls, fresh Italian bread, tomato pie, and more. We will give it a whirl, duplicating our Yorkville store.' Potrzeba said they've been looking to expand in the Syracuse area. When she drove through Manlius, she said the former Café Kubal was too good of a location to pass up. If all goes well with renovations, Potzreba is hoping to open in June. You can follow the Manlius location on Facebook for updates. The Highbridge Road/Fayetteville Street split has become a popular spot for development. The Starbucks opened at the end of last year, and a Taco Bell Cantina is opening at the former firehouse off Stickely Drive. Submit a form.
