Reason revealed for Nobel Mendy to Rangers transfer collapsing – and it's NOT to do with finances
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS opted to pursue other targets after failing to complete a deal for Real Betis defender Nobel Mendy. We reported over the weekend that the move was off, despite the player having been said to have agreed personal terms with the Ibrox club. The collapse of the transfer led some to assume that the reason it didn't go through was due to a financial disagreement. But reports in Spain now suggest that a problem in the player's medical could have led to Gers calling things off. According to AS, the 21-year-old's departure could have been halted by issues in the medical, which took place in Barcelona. Betis remain confident that he has no injury worries and that the defender will sign with another club this summer however, whether that be on loan or permanently. After missing out on Mendy, Gers switched focus and quickly agreed to a deal that brought Brentford starlet Jayden Meghoma to Scottish football. The 19-year-old, who worked with Russell Martin at Southampton, joined the Ibrox side on a season-long loan. He has gone straight into the Light Blues' Champions League squad, replacing attacking midfielder Nedim Bajrami. Gers know the left-back area is a weak point at the moment, with Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz both on the way out. Max Aarons hasn't looked comfortable playing on what it is his weaker side but Meghoma now becomes the only other option. Rangers players look terrified and exposed under Russell Martin With that in mind, Rangers are reportedly renewing interest in a former target. That man is Roma defender Anass Salah-Eddine. Nobel Mendy to Rangers transfer is off as talks with Real Betis collapse
Nobel Mendy won't be signing for Rangers after transfer talks with Real Betis collapsed. Recored Sport understands that the defender will be staying with the Seville-based club for now. It's just the latest twist in the transfer saga that's swung this way and that over the last ten days. READ MORE: Jayden Meghoma a Rangers 'transfer target' as £10million Brentford star lined-up as Jefte replacement READ MORE: Mikey Moore set for Rangers debut alongside two others in predicted XI for Alloa Initially it looked like the Ibrox club had missed out with Mendy set to join La Liga rivals Rayo Vallecano. However, he appeared to perform a dramatic u-turn, instead opting for the Light Blues. It had been thought a fee of €4million had been agreed with the player happy to make the move to Glasgow. Betis director Manu Fajardo all but confirmed the deal last Monday and expected it to be completed sooner rather than later. But it now won't happen after the two clubs failed to agree terms over the move, leaving Mendy in limbo for now. It remains to be seen whether the deal can be resurrected or whether Mendy will now consider other options. Russell Martin is keen to add another centre back to his squad, while Brentford left back Jayden Meghoma is also on the radar, with Jefte expected to complete a £6million move back to Brazil with Palmeiras. Real Betis: Nobel Mendy's transfer to Rangers falls through
The deal between Betis and Rangers collapsed despite advanced talks. Nobel Mendy / Real Betis Nobel Mendy will not be joining Rangers after all. The Senegalese defender's transfer from Real Betis has collapsed following the results of his medical examination. Both clubs had already agreed on a financial package worth €3 million. The 21-year-old defender seemed set for a future in Scotland after several days of intensive negotiations between Real Betis and Rangers. The Andalusian and Scottish club officials had reached a financial compromise, including a 20% sell-on clause in favor of the Seville side. What went wrong? As planned, Nobel Mendy underwent his medical in Barcelona on August 13 before heading to Glasgow. But, unexpectedly, the transfer process came to a halt after this check-up. According to several sources, it was the medical examination results that convinced Rangers to pull the plug. The Ibrox management decided to abandon the negotiations after reviewing the outcome of the player's physical tests. This surprise decision now casts doubt on the Senegalese defender's immediate future, as he remains in Seville. Manuel Pellegrini had already excluded Nobel Mendy from his plans for the upcoming season. The Chilean coach had left the defender out of pre-season preparations and recent team training sessions, confirming Real Betis' intention to part ways with the former Paris FC player. What next for the Senegalese international? To be continued…
