Kaizer Chiefs players meet and greet fans in Durban

Kaizer Chiefs players were on a meet and greet with their fans at The Workshop in Durban on Friday, 25 July. The players met with their fans ahead of the Toyota Cup, which will be held at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 26 July at 15:00. Amakhosi will face Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko FC, where they will be looking to redeem themselves after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Tanzanian superstars Young Africans SC in the same fixture at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein last year. The Soweto giants were seen dancing and singing along with their fans. They were also involved in a game where they had to choose fans to come up and answer questions regarding the match in order to win some exciting prizes, including match tickets and Kaizer Chiefs accessories. Saturday's game will not only see Kiazer Chiefs players having a blast on the field, but some of the club's legends will also be playing against Zulu Kingdom Football Club – also at Moses Mabhida Stadium – at 12:00. Among the legends who will be turning back the clock are Siyabonga Nomvethe and Brilliant Khuzwayo, who both contributed immensely to Kaizer Chiefs' rich history. Meanwhile, rumours are circulating that the Nedbank Cup champions are looking to extend the contract of goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma. A close source alleged that Bvuma is one of the goalkeepers that the club intends to keep. 'Talks between all the involved parties have started. They are believed to be working on tying down as many players as they can, and he is one of them with whom talks have started,' alleged the source. The 30-year-old goalkeeper first joined the glamour boys in 2014 in the club's youth academy. After working his way to the top, he managed to secure a spot with the main squad in 2016. Dead body found in a bush in Umlazi H

A dead body was found on the side of a railway line in a bush in Umlazi H, Durban, on Monday, 14 July 2025. Community members and security officers patrolling the railway discovered the dead body and immediately informed the police, who made their way to the area. Forensics were also summoned to the scene, where they examined the body and discovered that the deceased was a female believed to be in her teenage years. DEAD BODY DISCOVERED IN UMLAZI H The deceased was found half-naked with both her hands and legs tied by a rope. There was also a bruise on her forehead with a pinch of blood drooling down her face. The South African reached out to the police for comment but they were unable to provide feedback at the time. Sicelo Ntanzi, a community member who lives nearby, said that he did not hear any noise or see suspicious activity, as there was also load shedding. He says, 'To be honest with you, this comes as a shock because I did not hear anything at all. To make matters worse, there was also load shedding in the area in the past few days, so it was dark and it would have made it challenging for anyone to see anything.' The area has been plagued by a string of crimes in the past few months. Nomzamo Gwala, a resident, says that there was a shooting incident in the area a few months ago. 'This other time at the beginning of the year, there was a group of drunk men who were walking on the railway at night, who started fighting and swearing at each other. Their fight quickly escalated into a deadly gunfight when they started shooting at each other.' 'This area is really bad and we have tried multiple times to protect this area and even tried to form a Community Policing Forum (CPF), but it did not work,' says Gwala. Former security officer and CPF member, Bhekisizwe Mkhabela, said that they did start a policing forum in the area, but it ended up not working as they did not receive enough support. 'You know, when we started this, we had high hopes of bringing change in our community, as many people had lost hope in the police, but then things went astray.' 'There was a meeting held where we were told that we were going to be assisted with vehicles that would patrol in the area, but that did not happen. More and more people started leaving as they felt like they were not receiving support,' Mkhabela explained. Ethekwini Municipality cleans up Albert Park for Nedbank Cup final

The Ethekwini Municipality held a clean-up initiative at Albert Park in Durban to prepare for the screening of the Nedbank Cup final on Friday, 9 May 2025. The park will host a live screening of the match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, 10 May 2025. Community members also joined in to assist. Image: Nomndeni Ndlovu The clean-up, led by Trump-Based management officials, occurred across several parks in Durban, including Umgeni Road, South Beach, Albert Park and other prominent parks. Albert Park is notoriously known for its high crime rate and is deemed a 'no-go' area as it is known drug addicts who are known as 'Amaphara'. Speaking to The South African, Nokulunga Buthelezi, a citizen, said that she is still scared to visit Albert Park, even after it was cleaned. 'I am still sceptical about setting foot at Albert Park. I mean, I can see how beautiful it is cleaned and painted.' 'But what if this is only temporary and the park is cleaned because of the Nedbank Cup screening that will happen here and after that, things will go back to how they were before?' However, the councillor of ward 32 in Durban, Protas Mngonyama, assured that the park will continue being clean and is beefed up with security, even after the screening of the Nedbank Cup. 'The clean-up is not because of the Nedbank Cup screening. The municipality started a programme in November 2024, to clean up the park and remove gangsters who lived there.' 'We have put up tight security and a fence around the park to ensure the safety of the community,' Mngonyama said. The Nedbank Cup final sales tickets were scheduled to be sold from 10:00 on Monday, 5 May 2025. However, due to a high volume of fans buying tickets, the system crashed, leading to the sale of more tickets than the stadium's 41 000 capacity. Noluthando Kunene, an Orlando Pirates fan, said that she ended up getting a refund after she was not issued a ticket. 'I don't want to lie, I am very sad that I could not go and watch the match, even though I did purchase a ticket.' 'I scratched out so many plans for this event only to be left disappointed like this while it's not even my fault, they knew many people would want to buy tickets, so they should have planned this well,' said Kunene. Meanwhile, Acting CEO of PSL, Mato Madlala, confirmed that there had been a system glitch that resulted in more tickets being oversold. 'The server crashed, and we had challenges at that time because of the numbers, everyone trying to access the system at the same time,' said Madlala. Fans without tickets were urged not to go to the stadium. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
