Man feared drowned after car found submerged in river

MUAR: A 38-year-old man is feared drowned after his car was found submerged in a river near Kampung Tui, Bukit Kepong, this afternoon, almost 24 hours after he was last heard from by his family. The white Perodua Axia, believed to belong to the victim, was found upside down beneath a bridge at Sungai Kampung Tui in Pagoh around 3.30pm today. However, the man's whereabouts remain unknown. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said no police report had been lodged by the family, but they had posted on Facebook stating that the man had been missing since 4pm yesterday. According to the Fire and Rescue Department's operation commander Nor Alfatah Omar, a search and rescue operation is ongoing to locate the driver. The vehicle, found at a depth of about two metres, matches the description of the car last driven by the missing man. A woman, believed to be the victim's wife, said her husband had left their home in Setia Indah, Johor Baru, yesterday afternoon. He told her he was heading to a friend's workshop in Parit Jawa, Muar. In a Facebook post, she said they remained in contact via phone until about 4pm, after which she was no longer able to reach him. Concerned for his safety, the family attempted to track his mobile phone, which led them to an area near Jalan Bukit Kepong–Lapis. They also searched throughout the night in Lenga, Bukit Kepong, and Muar town but to no avail. The woman said her husband had suffered a heart attack while driving once before, which heightened her fears when he could not be contacted. Authorities have yet to confirm the condition of the man or whether he was inside the vehicle when it was found.
