Second suspect nabbed in Bachok acid attack on spa owner, motive still a mystery, say police

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the acid attack on a spa operator in Bachok, Kelantan last Saturday. According to Berita Harian, Bachok District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin said the 45-year-old man was detained in Kuala Krai last night. 'The suspect is a friend of the woman who was arrested on Monday afternoon. This brings the total number of arrests to two so far. 'He will be brought before the Kota Baru Magistrates' Court this morning for a remand order,' he said when contacted by the national daily. In the incident, which took place last Saturday, 27-year-old spa operator Nor Faziera Muda was splashed with acid by three individuals and had to undergo six hours of surgery. Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat yesterday confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old woman in connection with the case. She was detained in front of a rubber factory in Kuala Krai at around 4pm on Monday. 'The arrest was made during a joint operation by the Special Investigation Division (D9) of the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters and the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) of the Bachok District Police,' he said. The suspect, who works at a rubber factory, has no prior criminal record. Police also seized a Perodua Myvi, a mobile phone and a car remote. Superintendent Mohamad Ismail said the motive behind the attack is still under investigation. 'We have shown the victim a photograph of the arrested woman, but so far she has said she does not recognise her,' he added. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the incident was driven by jealousy, revenge, debt, or another motive.

Bachok police: Woman arrested over acid attack that left Kelantan spa owner severely burned

KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Police have arrested a woman believed to be linked to an acid attack on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, which left the victim with serious burns. According to The New Straits Times, the suspect was detained at around 10pm yesterday in Kuala Krai and is expected to be brought to the Bachok Magistrates' Court this morning for a remand application. Confirming the arrest, Bachok district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin declined to comment further, saying a full statement would be issued by Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat in due course. The victim, 27-year-old Nor Faziera Muda, was attacked by three individuals — two women and a man — last Saturday while she was opening her salon for a scheduled massage appointment. She was accompanied by her young son at the time. The attack took place at about 7.20pm near a convenience store in Tawang, where an unidentified individual splashed her with a corrosive liquid before fleeing the scene. She suffered severe burns to her shoulder, back, arms and legs, and underwent a six-hour surgery. Nor Faziera is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at the Burns Unit of Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian. Police are also looking into the victim's claim that acid had previously been poured outside her premises as a form of intimidation, although no official report was lodged about that incident. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, an offence that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, along with whipping or a fine.

Spa acid attack: Victim's husband says it could have been a paid job

BACHOK: The husband of a spa operator who was splashed with acid has not ruled out the possibility that the attack was a hired hit. Muhammad Syahrul Ikhwan Seri Buana, 33, said his suspicion stemmed from his wife's account that the attacker had aimed for her face, but she managed to dodge it. "The acid landed on her back and arms instead," he said. He added that local residents reported seeing three women in niqab and a masked individual, believed to be a man, fleeing the scene. "We had just performed Maghrib prayers together at 7.40pm before my wife left for the spa with our 7-year-old daughter to attend to a customer who had booked a massage package. "We found it odd that the customer requested a three-hour session — such long durations are rare. "What was even more unusual was that the customer insisted my wife do the massage, despite us having other staff. But she obliged," he said when met at Beris Kubur Besar today. Shortly after, he received a call from his wife saying she had been attacked with acid. Nor Faziera Muda, 27, suffered burns to over 50 per cent of her back, arms and hands. She is now in stable condition after a six-hour surgery at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) specialist centre. "Our daughter, who witnessed the incident, is still traumatised and refuses to be left alone," he said. Yesterday, it was reported that three suspects splashed acid on the victim before fleeing. Police have recovered several sets of fingerprints believed to belong to the suspects, who wore masks and niqab to conceal their identities.

Salon owner hurt in acid attack after ‘customer' asks for massage package

Bachok police chief Ismail Jamaluddin said police managed to lift four sets of fingerprints from the scene, and recover a container used to contain the acid. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The owner of a spa and beauty salon in Bachok, Kelantan, thwarted an attempt to splash acid on her face two days ago, but suffered burns on her back and hands. Syahrul Ikhwan Seri Buana said two individuals wearing purdah, or veils, appeared at the door of his wife Nor Faziera Muda's salon, Utusan Malaysia reported. Suddenly, another person standing behind them came forward and splashed acid towards her, Syahrul, 33, said. He said Faziera, 27, called him immediately, before members of the public took her to a nearby clinic. Faziera was taken to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian, where she was treated for burns on her back and hands. Berita Harian reported Syahrul as saying that Faziera had received a message from a 'customer' requesting a massage package, and telling her that she would be wearing a purdah. He said Faziera managed to avoid being splashed on the face with the acid as she was still wearing her prayer garments after her evening prayers. Bachok police chief Ismail Jamaluddin said police managed to lift four sets of fingerprints from the scene, and recover a container used to contain the acid. He said an investigation is being carried out under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means.
