Noraniza Idris sings praises for Mimi Fly's "Serumpun" as top Eid song
24 Mar - While her original music video was previously criticised for being too sexy for the month of Ramadan, Mimi Fly did attract the attention of traditional music queen Noraniza Idris for her Eid song, "Serumpun".
The singer, who spoke about the former One Nation Emcees member's new song, said that "Serumpun" is the one Eid song that she loves the most due to its fusion of both modern and traditional Nusantara sound.
"The song is great not just melody-wise, but also the lyrics that truly captures the attention. It's modern but still retains its traditional values," she said.
Noraniza, known as Kak Ani to many, said that she is impressed by the idea of the song, adding, "I don't think it's too much for me to say that Mimi is the only singer who is upholding the ethnic creative sound right now."
"Eid songs nowadays use a lot of everyday language. It's not as poetic anymore, to the point that we almost don't feel the joy of the occasion. But there is no denying that there are many other good works like Serumpun," she added.
"Serumpun", which has been reedited following the previous backlash, has now garnered more than 970,000 views since its reupload, with many praising the singer for listening to the criticism and changing what is needed.
