North Carolina basketball has tripled roster spending for 2025-26 season
North Carolina basketball has tripled roster spending for 2025-26 season A report states that UNC basketball is spending triple for the roster. The 2025-26 season is a very important one for the North Carolina Tar Heels' basketball program. After a season in which they barely made the NCAA Tournament and then had a first-round exit, it's on Hubert Davis and the staff to get things in order. And they are getting the resources to do just that. The Tar Heels will have a whole new roster next season, with five new starters and the return of Seth Trimble who was a key piece a year ago. They re-tooled the roster, landing an impressive transfer class as well as bringing in a top 10 recruiting class. With the addition of Jim Tanner at General Manager, key moves were made and the money was spent. In fact, a lot of money was spent. Per Inside Carolina's Greg Barnes, the Tar Heels' have surpassed the $14 million mark in its financial commitment to the 2025-26 roster. Here is what Barnes wrote in Monday's report: Multiple sources have confirmed that UNC has surpassed the $14 million mark in its financial commitment to the 2025-26 roster, approximately triple what was spent on the roster a year ago. Men's basketball executive director and general manager Jim Tanner's $850,000 salary represents another bullet point in confirming the university's support of its prized program. It will take time to see if this roster is constructed correctly, but going out and spending money is a good first step for the program. The struggles of last season forced North Carolina to do this and rightfully so. Davis can't afford another year of being on the bubble, despite making the tournament in two of those three seasons on the bubble. There needs to bean improvement made to make the program feel confident about the future. And in this new NIL era, North Carolina is hopefully finally catching up. Where UNC basketball ranks in latest way-too-early top 25
Where UNC basketball ranks in latest way-too-early top 25 As we enter the start of Summer, there are still some looming questions for the North Carolina Tar Heels' basketball program. There's still a chance they can land a player out of the transfer portal, and they are indeed after a few international prospects. With UNC losing a lot of their production from a year ago, they need to find a way to replace that. They have already landed a good class out of the transfer portal in addition to a top 10 recruiting class for the 2025 cycle. But even with that, a lot of experts are not high on the Tar Heels, and it's clear that it's going to be a very important year for Hubert Davis. In On3's latest way-too-early rankings for the 2025-26 season, they have North Carolina barely in the top 25 at No. 24 overall: 24. North CarolinaKey returns: Seth TrimbleKey additions: Derek Dixon, Kyan Evans*, Jonathan Powell*, Jarin Stevenson*, Henri Veesaar*, Caleb Wilson, Jaydon Young*Key departures: Elliot Cadeau, RJ Davis, Ian Jackson, Ven-Allen Lubin, Drake Powell, Jalen Washington, Jae'lyn Withers The site is also not high on the ACC again having just three teams ranked overall in the rankings. They had Duke No. 3 overall and Louisville at No. 12 overall. These are only preseason rankings and a lot will happen between now and the NCAA Tournament but it's always interesting to see where experts have these teams after offseason moves. UNC baseball still in top 10 in latest D1Baseball poll.
The expectations are high for the North Carolina Tar Heels' baseball program, fresh off an appearance in the 2024 College World Series. And they opened up their 2025 season in a big way. The Tar Heels swept Texas Tech in Chapel Hill over the weekend, opening the season with a big series win over the Big 12 program. After taking the double-header on Friday, the Tar Heels capped off the sweep on Saturday afternoon. It's a great start for Scott Forbes and his team. Now, as they go into the second week, they are still ranked in the Top 10 in the latest poll. UNC checked in at No. 6, the same spot they were in for the preseason poll. The three-game sweep kept them right there at their spot. The top 10 didn't change at all as every team except two collected a sweep in the season-opening series. No. 2 Virginia did go 2-1 but maintained their spot in the poll. As for the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Cavaliers led the way at No. 2 followed by No. 6 UNC, No. 9 Florida State, No. 12 NC State, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 14 Clemson, and No. 17 Duke. UNC is now scheduled to host Kansas State on Tuesday and then will face off against East Carolina over the weekend in a series that will see both teams host a game and then a game in Durham. The Tar Heels moved their Tuesday game against NC A&T to next Wednesday. Bill Belichick appears in Dunkin' Super Bowl commercial
If you watched the Super Bowl on Sunday night, chances are you recognized someone who has close ties to the North Carolina Tar Heels' football program. That person is none other than new UNC head football coach Bill Belichick, who starred in a Dunkin Donuts' commercial with his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. It didn't take long for North Carolina fans to recognize Belichick, who, according to 247Sports' Ross Martin, appeared in the first Super Bowl commercial on Sunday night. Belichick spent most of his NFL coaching career surrounded by Dunkin Donuts', which is headquartered in Massachusetts. During his 24 seasons as head coach of the New England Patriots, Belichick won 17 AFC East titles and six Super Bowl trophies. After the Pats came back down to Earth following Tom Brady's departure, Belichick and his longtime organization decided to part ways. It wasn't even a full year before the Tar Heels snatched him up, with an official hire on December 11, 2024. UNC players, coaches, anyone in the football program and fans alike couldn't be more excited for the Belichick era, as he vows to turn a historically-mediocre program into a consistent winner. All eyes, in Chapel Hill and across the football world alike, will be peeled to the TV on Labor Day. North Carolina hosts TCU at 7:30 p.m. in what I imagine will be a sellout. Tar Heel fans will have plenty of opportunities to see Belichick roam the sidelines this coming fall, as they have two homes games sandwiching a trip to Charlotte. UNC won't have an early, home-heavy schedule, but instead alternating home and away games each week. Grab your hot cup of Dunkin' coffee and maybe a donut or two, because the Belichick Effect is in full swing and here to stay.
