North Carolina basketball has tripled roster spending for 2025-26 season A report states that UNC basketball is spending triple for the roster.
The 2025-26 season is a very important one for the North Carolina Tar Heels' basketball program. After a season in which they barely made the NCAA Tournament and then had a first-round exit, it's on Hubert Davis and the staff to get things in order.
And they are getting the resources to do just that.
The Tar Heels will have a whole new roster next season, with five new starters and the return of Seth Trimble who was a key piece a year ago. They re-tooled the roster, landing an impressive transfer class as well as bringing in a top 10 recruiting class. With the addition of Jim Tanner at General Manager, key moves were made and the money was spent.
In fact, a lot of money was spent.
Per Inside Carolina's Greg Barnes, the Tar Heels' have surpassed the $14 million mark in its financial commitment to the 2025-26 roster. Here is what Barnes wrote in Monday's report:
Multiple sources have confirmed that UNC has surpassed the $14 million mark in its financial commitment to the 2025-26 roster, approximately triple what was spent on the roster a year ago. Men's basketball executive director and general manager Jim Tanner's $850,000 salary represents another bullet point in confirming the university's support of its prized program.
It will take time to see if this roster is constructed correctly, but going out and spending money is a good first step for the program.
The struggles of last season forced North Carolina to do this and rightfully so. Davis can't afford another year of being on the bubble, despite making the tournament in two of those three seasons on the bubble. There needs to bean improvement made to make the program feel confident about the future.
And in this new NIL era, North Carolina is hopefully finally catching up.

Tampa dog bar forced to shut down after losing legal battle with state

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Pups Pub in Tampa is preparing to close its doors this weekend after losing a legal battle with the state over its dog-friendly indoor operations. The business, which allows dogs to roam freely both inside and outside its premises, initially won a lawsuit in 2023 that permitted non-service animals indoors. But the Florida Department of Health appealed the decision and won. A state court ultimately ruled that the Department of Health has the authority to prohibit non-service animals inside any food service business, effectively banning the indoor-outdoor dog bar model. 4 dolphins from Florida park involved in criminal investigation moved to Clearwater Marine Aquarium 'To use the term divide and conquer, they picked one entity,' attorney Gary De Pury, at De Pury Law told News Channel 8. 'They went through the entire legal battle in order to create all the legal precedents. And now they can pick five, six, eight, ten at a time and start shutting them all down by saying, okay, we don't like what you're doing.' While other dog bars in places like St. Petersburg remain open for now, legal experts said they could face similar scrutiny if the health department decides to expand enforcement. 'Until the health department comes in their establishment [and says], okay, here's the new ordinance and you have to shut it down,' the attorney added. 'And as you know, laws change every single day in Florida.' In a Facebook post announcing the abrupt closure, the owners of Pups Pub wrote: 'Despite previously winning our case in 2023, the Department of Health appealed and ultimately reversed the ruling. We are heartbroken to announce we will be closing our doors this Saturday.' The decision has left loyal patrons and pet lovers disappointed. 'With any neighborhood bar, everybody kind of knows their name and their dogs,' one visitor said. 'I think it's kind of a travesty. I feel very sorry for the patrons and the business owner.' Pups Pub's final day of operation is set for Saturday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Kansas Basketball's 5-Star Commit Catches Attention on Wednesday

Kansas Basketball's 5-Star Commit Catches Attention on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas entered the NCAA Tournament in March as a No. 7 seed in the West Region but fell to No. 10 seed Arkansas, 79-72, in the first round, ending a campaign that fell short of preseason expectations (21-13 overall, 11-9 in Big 12). Advertisement Following the loss to Arkansas, Bill Self's program saw a lot of turnover, leaving the Jayhawks with only a handful of returners slated to suit up in 2025-26. Thus, the staff made it clear that freshmen would be asked to fill significant roles next fall. Among the newcomers is five-star high school recruit Darryn Peterson. On Wednesday, Kansas men's basketball took to X to post a brief video clip of Peterson working out in the Allen Fieldhouse facility with the caption,"Your morning fix → Darryn Peterson. Kansas sure does look good on him. Rock Chalk 🔴🔵 ". Within minutes, the post garnered thousands of views and comments. Advertisement "So excited to watch this years team run the big 12 🔥🔥😤," replied one user. "Yes Fast Tempo on offense and in your face athletic defense. #rockchalk," said another fan. "We finally have a team that can make a three?," one other fan joked. "The passing. SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL," commented another user. "Half this spoiled fanbase better be writing some apology's to the goat come November," another commenter replied. Another fan simply responded, "NPOY." McDonald's All American West guard Darryn Peterson (22) and McDonald's All American East forward Cameron Boozer (12).Pamela Smith-Imagn Images A 6-foot-5, 195-pound combo guard out of Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.), Peterson emerged as the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class, per 247Sports. As a senior at Prolific Prep, he averaged 23.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game, earning McDonald's All-American honors in April 2025.
