North Lanarkshire history archive recognised with award

North Lanarkshire Archives has been awarded Archive Service Accreditation in recognition of meeting the UK standard for managing and sharing historical records. The archive, which holds documents dating from the 1500s to the present day, charts the transformation of the region from farmland to industrial powerhouse and beyond. 'The team has worked really hard to keep improving and meet the high standards needed for this award.' North Lanarkshire Archives' new accreditation confirms that it is well managed, publicly accessible and able to adapt to change. The award is supported by organisations including National Records of Scotland, The National Archives, the Scottish Council on Archives and the Welsh Government. 'Their commitment to preserving and sharing our local history is something we can all be proud of. 'Congratulations to the whole team on this well-deserved recognition.' With funding from the Archives Revealed programme, the team is currently focused on organising and promoting its collection about Cumbernauld New Town. This work will help improve access to an important chapter of Scotland's urban development history.

North Lanarkshire Archives has been officially recognised with a national award. ‌ The Archive Service Accreditation Panel has confirmed that North Lanarkshire Archives have met the UK standard for managing and sharing historical records. ‌ The archives in North Lanarkshire hold documents from as far back as the 1500s right up to today. ‌ These records show how the area changed over time from farming land to a major centre for manufacturing and heavy industry, and now into the modern post-industrial era. Thanks to funding from the Archives Revealed programme, the team is currently working on organising and promoting their collection about Cumbernauld New Town. ‌ Heather Liddle, who manages Active and Creative Communities at North Lanarkshire Council, said: 'We're thrilled the panel has recognised the great work our team does and how well we work with our partners. 'The team has worked really hard to keep improving and meet the high standards needed for this award.'
