A man swimming in the River Ouse has sparked a major call out from the emergency services. Fire crews from York and Acomb, police and paramedics were called to the river shortly before 11pm on Friday (August 8). North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man had managed to get out of the river himself when its crews arrived. 'York and Acomb crews were requested to assist police and ambulance with a male swimming in the river,' a service spokesperson said. 'On arrival male had got himself out the river and crew and ambulance service assisted him to safety.'

Firefighters in the Yorkshire Dales have said "thoughtless" parking blocked their route to an emergency call.A crew from Bentham Fire Station was called out at 21:33 BST on Saturday to reports of a fire in the open in Upper crew was forced to reverse and find an alternative route through the market town after finding the fire engine could not pass a car parked on a narrow road."Every second counts in an emergency," said Jon Darnton, from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. "In a lot of circumstances... minutes and seconds count so the quicker we can get there the better for everybody involved," he added."There are a lot more vehicles on the roads now so we do understand that there is a premium for parking," the Craven and Harrogate District group manager said that the issue was "not a really regular occurrence" but the service had identified certain routes, both urban and rural, which could only be driven by "narrow-track fire engines". The crew said police were requested to attend to "deal with the parking issue".North Yorkshire Police has been contacted for comment. A person was successfully freed after being trapped underneath an overturned tractor, Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) has crews were called to Walden, near Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales, at about 18:30 BST on Tuesday, according to crews, including the air ambulance, as well as fire service and mountain rescue teams, were all involved in the rescue operation.A YAS spokesperson said one patient was taken by helicopter to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough following the incident. "A number of ambulance resources were dispatched to the scene, including an ambulance, team leader and the air ambulance," they Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said its crews from Richmond and Reeth had also attended the scene.A fire service spokesperson said: "Crews released the casualty by lifting the vehicle, allowing access to the casualty to be transferred onto a scoop stretcher. "Mountain rescue teams assisted with transporting the casualty to the awaiting air ambulance, to be taken to hospital for treatment."
