High school roundup: Indian River opens season by topping Carthage in girls lacrosse
Apr. 1—CARTHAGE — Allison LaMora totaled two goals and two assists and Brylee Amato scored twice and recorded seven draw controls as Indian River outlasted Carthage 7-6 in a Frontier League girls lacrosse season-opening game Tuesday. LaMora added two ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Wolves. Kallie Delles also scored twice and had two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lilly Walsh also scored for Indian River, and Keera LaLonde provided an assist. Advertisement The Wolves' Cora Russell recorded 10 saves in goal. SOUTH JEFFERSON 23, GENERAL BROWN 3 Amalia Netto connected for seven goals and three assists and contributed two ground balls as the defending Section 3 champion Spartans started their season with a decisive win over the Lions in a Frontier League opener in Adams. Emma Kelly followed with three goals and two assists for South Jefferson and Lydia Tremont also scored three times. Kendra Staie provided two goals, two assists and two ground balls. Lily Morrison scored twice and assisted on another goal. Leyna Hodges also scored twice. Aliana West, Layla Perry, Brooke Perry and Heydin O'brein each scored once. Jan. 29—ALEXANDRIA BAY — Marcus Castine generated 21 points to pace a balanced effort as Sackets Harbor's boys basketball team cruised to a 60-21 victory over Alexandria on Tuesday night in a Frontier League "C-D" Division game. Dylan Aubert scored 18 points and also totaled seven rebounds and five steals for the division-leading Patriots, who improved to 11-3 and a perfect 10-0 in league play to clinch the division title outright. Troy Newberry tallied eight points to lead the Purple Ghosts (4-12, 3-7). The Patriots, who are ranked No. 6 in Class D, won the previous three "D" Division regular-season titles, sharing the crown with Belleville Henderson in the 2021-22 season. COPENHAGEN 67, IMMACULATE HEART 41 Bryce Spaulding scored 16 points to help spark the Golden Knights past the Cavaliers to win a "C-D" Division game in Copenhagen. Jacob Lawlee contributed 12 points, six rebounds and four steals for Copenhagen (7-8, 6-5) and teammates Logan L'Huillier and Aydan Sheitz scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, with L'Huillier tallying six rebounds and four assists.
