American dad tries UK crisps and issues surprising verdict on one flavour
An American dad tried two popular brands of British crisps and shared what he thought of them – and he drew a surprising comparison with one flavour and a classic snack from the US
An American dad tried British crisps for the first time and people can't get enough of his reaction. Crisps are a classic snack enjoyed by people of all ages, and everyone has their favourite brands - whether it's Walkers, Pringles or Hula Hoops.
The US also has some big names when it comes to crisps, from Takis to Cheetos and Lay's - which is owned by the same parent company as Walkers, PepsiCo. Tay and Alex are a couple on TikTok, made up of an 'American and a Northern Englishman,' who recently posted a video on the platform of Tay's dad trying Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps and Wotsits.
Tay started off by handing her dad a bag of the Walkers snacks. He took a bite of a single crisp, saying: 'That's good.'
The American dad continued: 'That's really good,' before adding: 'That's excellent.' He enjoyed the crisps so much, he even asked: 'Do they make big bags of this?'
Next, he tried a bag of Wotsits, a popular brand of cheese-flavoured corn puffs produced by Walkers.
After some confusion about how to say 'Wotsits', the American guessed: 'I would think these kinda probably are like Cheetos.'
Opening the bag up, he took a look inside and remarked: 'Nice and puffy.' He let out a giggle then gave his verdict: 'That's f****** good.'
The US dad thought the Wotsits were 'better than Cheetos.' Cheetos are similar to Wotsits as they are crunchy corn-puff crisps but they are best known for their Flamin' Hot flavour.

Ending the TikTok video, Tay asked her dad to rate the Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps and the Wotsits out of ten.
He gave an easy 10/10 for the Walkers and a nine for the Wotsits. He ended with a rather surprising declaration: 'These [Wotsits] are good, they're just better than Cheetos.'
Tay and Alex's TikTok clip has racked up an incredible 1.2million views, 114,200 likes and more than 800 comments at the time of writing.
British food delivery company Deliveroo said: 'Obsessed with him.' Another user on TikTok added: 'Dad is so zesty I love it.'
A third chimed in: 'Aw hahaha I love his silly little laugh after trying a Wotsit. Wotsits make anyone feel like a child again.'
Others left comments such as 'I love watching Americans eat British food!', 'best American review of British food I've seen on here' and 'need more videos with your dad trying UK snacks.'
VK's Language Tutoring states on its website: 'Potato chips and crisps are a popular snack in both America and Britain, but there are some notable differences in the terminology used to describe them.
'In the United States, the thin, crispy slices of fried potatoes are known as chips, while in the United Kingdom, they are called crisps.'
It also highlights that the texture and thickness of chips and crisps slightly differs as American chips 'tend to be thicker and crunchier while British crisps are thinner and more delicate.'
The English tutoring resource explains: 'This difference in texture may be due in part to the fact that American chips are often made from russet potatoes, which are starchier than the potatoes used to make British crisps.'
