American dad tries UK crisps and issues surprising verdict on one flavour

Daily Mirror06-05-2025

An American dad tried two popular brands of British crisps and shared what he thought of them – and he drew a surprising comparison with one flavour and a classic snack from the US
An American dad tried British crisps for the first time and people can't get enough of his reaction. Crisps are a classic snack enjoyed by people of all ages, and everyone has their favourite brands - whether it's Walkers, Pringles or Hula Hoops.
The US also has some big names when it comes to crisps, from Takis to Cheetos and Lay's - which is owned by the same parent company as Walkers, PepsiCo. Tay and Alex are a couple on TikTok, made up of an 'American and a Northern Englishman,' who recently posted a video on the platform of Tay's dad trying Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps and Wotsits.

Tay started off by handing her dad a bag of the Walkers snacks. He took a bite of a single crisp, saying: 'That's good.'

The American dad continued: 'That's really good,' before adding: 'That's excellent.' He enjoyed the crisps so much, he even asked: 'Do they make big bags of this?'
Next, he tried a bag of Wotsits, a popular brand of cheese-flavoured corn puffs produced by Walkers.
After some confusion about how to say 'Wotsits', the American guessed: 'I would think these kinda probably are like Cheetos.'
Opening the bag up, he took a look inside and remarked: 'Nice and puffy.' He let out a giggle then gave his verdict: 'That's f****** good.'
The US dad thought the Wotsits were 'better than Cheetos.' Cheetos are similar to Wotsits as they are crunchy corn-puff crisps but they are best known for their Flamin' Hot flavour.
WARNING: The video below contains explicit language. Viewer discretion is advised.

Ending the TikTok video, Tay asked her dad to rate the Walkers Cheese and Onion crisps and the Wotsits out of ten.
He gave an easy 10/10 for the Walkers and a nine for the Wotsits. He ended with a rather surprising declaration: 'These [Wotsits] are good, they're just better than Cheetos.'

Tay and Alex's TikTok clip has racked up an incredible 1.2million views, 114,200 likes and more than 800 comments at the time of writing.
British food delivery company Deliveroo said: 'Obsessed with him.' Another user on TikTok added: 'Dad is so zesty I love it.'
A third chimed in: 'Aw hahaha I love his silly little laugh after trying a Wotsit. Wotsits make anyone feel like a child again.'

Others left comments such as 'I love watching Americans eat British food!', 'best American review of British food I've seen on here' and 'need more videos with your dad trying UK snacks.'
VK's Language Tutoring states on its website: 'Potato chips and crisps are a popular snack in both America and Britain, but there are some notable differences in the terminology used to describe them.
'In the United States, the thin, crispy slices of fried potatoes are known as chips, while in the United Kingdom, they are called crisps.'
It also highlights that the texture and thickness of chips and crisps slightly differs as American chips 'tend to be thicker and crunchier while British crisps are thinner and more delicate.'
The English tutoring resource explains: 'This difference in texture may be due in part to the fact that American chips are often made from russet potatoes, which are starchier than the potatoes used to make British crisps.'

The day one contestants have coupled in the live launch - with a twist. But who is paired up after the first coupling? Love Island is back and it was quite the dramatic start to series 12. The legendary show is celebrating its tenth birthday this summer and viewers are promised 'more drama' than ever. Maya Jama, the CEO of Love, welcomed a new batch of singletons to the famous villa in Mallorca for the first time tonight (June 9). Twelve hopefuls walked through its doors, dreaming of finding love - and winning £50,000. Here's all you need to know: Who is coupled up in Love Island series 12? Love Island cast arriving for series 12 | ITV We will be updating the following list throughout the series after each coupling and re-coupling. As is tradition with a new series of Love Island the first 12 singletons entered the villa and coupled up. It made an initial set of six couples, but the show had a twist up its sleeve. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The show's very first American bombshell entered during the episode today (June 9) and she was able to steal one of the boys from the off. It means already one of the housemates is at risk of being dumped. Before the first coupling, Maya Jama announced a change to the formula - with the girls having to pick the boys based on if they are their types on 'paper alone'. It meant they picked their first partner without even seeing them - what a way to start the season. Day One Toni and Ben Meg and Dejon Sophie and Harry Helena and Connor Alima and Blu Megan and Tommy Shakira and Ben were originally coupled up, but after the arrival of Toni she swooped in and split them up. It means she is now partnered with Ben and it means there is currently one singleton in the villa. Who is single in the Love Island villa? As previously mentioned, the twist arrival of American bombshell Toni - and her power to steal one of the boys straight away - meant one of the original six girls has been left at risk of being dumped. Shakira is currently the only singleton in the villa and at the next re-coupling could potentially go home. The girls had to pick their first partners 'blind'. It has gone down well with fans on social media. Blind Dating might be getting revived soon - but Love Island has already beat it to the punch. In a major switch up to the format, the first coupling was a 'blind' one with the girls picking their types 'on paper'. Maya Jama, CEO of Love, has been promising 'more twists' and 'more drama' for the iconic show's 12th series. It comes as the reality fixture celebrates its 10th birthday on ITV2. It was quite the twist - but there was another on the way with the first bombshell on the way. Love Island introduces major twist in the first minutes Love Island makes major twist to the first coupling | ITV The first six girls to enter the villa in series 12 had barely had a chance to settle in before host Maya Jama arrived and dropped the first of many twists. The girls would be picking which boy to couple up with based on whether they liked them 'on paper'. A series of six love hearts with a brief dating bio - including jobs, age, heights - were presented to the girls tonight (June 9). They then had to quickly dash and make their choice - before finally getting to meet the boy they had picked later in the episode. Another added: 'Making people pair up based on descriptions only is interesting.' A fan said: 'This new format has freed us from the shackles of the public 'coupling them up'.' One person wrote: 'Oooo I'm liking this new format, good job producers.' There were a few dissenting voices however. One fan said: 'Not a fan of the new way of coupling up.'
