Maalik Teaser: Gangster Rajkummar Rao Is The "Hero" Of His Own Story
New Delhi: The teaser of Rajkummar Rao's much-awaited film Maalik was unveiled earlier today. Rajkummar in his gangster era promises to be a gritty spectacle to watch out for. Set against the backdrop of Allahabad in 1988, Maalik follows Rajkummar Rao as he embarks on a ruthless killing spree, showing no mercy. The teaser promises intense action sequences, umpteen gunfights and a gritty gangster drama. But at the heart of it all, it's the rugged and fierce Rajkummar Rao who truly steals the spotlight. What's Happening Rajkummar Rao's next film titled Maalik is a gangster action thriller film. The teaser opens with a gripping scene, Rajkummar walks down a corridor, rifle in hand, as people run helter-skelter in panic. Moments later, a bloodied and bruised Rajkummar violently thrashes an opponent with a metal container. He then drags the lifeless body through the street, as the onlookers watch in stunned silence. Justifying the brutality, he declares, ' Hume farak nahi padhta hai ki logo ko kya lagta hai ki hum villain hai, hero hai. Humari kahani mei hum hero hai. (I don't care whether people think I'm a villain or a hero. In my story, I'm the hero.)' The teaser opens with a grim voiceover in the background. It says, ' Samaj me do tarah ke log hote hai. 1 joh pasina bahake apna hak ka roti kamata hai aur 1 jo khoon pasina bahake apna hak ka roti chheen leta hai. Hum dusra waala hai. (There are two kinds of people in society. One who earns his bread through hardwork and sweat, and the other who sheds blood and sweat to snatch what he deserves. I am the second kind.)' Rajkummar is seen performing a series of edge-of-the-seat action sequences, it's a refreshing break for the actor after starring in back-to-back roles set in small towns. How Is Maalik A Versatile Change in Rajkummar Rao's Filmography Rajkummar Rao in a gangster avatar in Maalik — is a striking departure from his signature small-town roles. His last couple of films namely Stree 2, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, and now recently Bhool Chuk Maaf have all showcased how he blends into these slice-of-life or comedy genres. Rajkummar Rao Opens Up About Why He Choose Films Like Malik Shahid And Newton
Despite grooving to hits like 'Aayi Nai,' 'Na Na Na Na Re,' and 'Chor Bazari Phir Se,' National Award-winner Rajkummar Rao says he prefers impactful roles over dance-centric ones, valuing films like Shahid, Maalik, and Newton for their rare depth. Asked what would he choose – a Dancing Rajkummar or the one who has done films such as Shahid and Maalik, Rajkummar told IANS: 'I'll choose Shahid, Maalik, and Newton of the world because I can dance at a party too, make a video and upload it.'' He added: 'But opportunities like these don't come easily." Rajkummar's action-drama 'Maalik' has been postponed. The film was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on June 20, but will now be released on 11th July 2025. In the film, which is currently in post-production, Rao will be seen playing a ruthless gangster. His portrayal of a gangster promises to showcase a side of him that fans haven't seen before, adding an intriguing edge to the film. Directed by Pulkit, "Maalik" is produced by Kumar Taurani under the Tips Films banner and Jay Shewakramani's Northern Lights Films. Talking about Shahid and Newton, the former film released in 2012. It is a biographical drama film directed by Hansal Mehta. Based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010, the film stars Rajkummar as Azmi; Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prabhleen Sandhu and Baljinder Kaur appear in supporting roles. Meanwhile, Newton released in 2017, the black comedy-drama film directed by Amit V. Masurkar. The film stars Rajkummar in the title role of a government servant who is sent to a politically sensitive area of central India on election duty. Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav appeared in prominent roles.

Rajkummar Rao's ‘Maalik' to now release in theatres on July 11
Actor Rajkummar Rao's upcoming gangster movie Maalik has a new release date of July 11, the makers announced on Friday. The action thriller, directed by Pulkit, was earlier scheduled for release in cinema halls on June 20. It is produced by Kumar Taurani under the Tips Films banner and Jay Shewakramani's Northern Lights Films. "Raub, Rutba, aur RAJ hoga Maalik ka, 11 July se. Aa rahe hain #Maalik, 11 July se sirf cinemagharon mein," Tips Films posted on Instagram. Rao also shared the news on his official Instagram page. Pulkit is best known for directing the Bhumi Pednekar-starrer investigative drama 'Bhakshak' and 'Dedh Bigha Zameen', featuring Pratik Gandhi. Rao will be next seen in Bhool Chuk Maaf, co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi. The film, produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, will be released on May 9.
