Eurovision winner Linda Martin gives EMMY advice: 'Embrace it'

Eurovision legend Linda Martin gave advice to EMMY, this year's hopeful for Ireland, telling the 24-year-old Norweigan singer to "embrace it" because it's "going to go past in a flash". Martin, who won the Song Contest in 1992 with Why Me?, welcomed EMMY and her brother Erlend to her dog shelter in Dublin where she presented the singer with a bouquet of green, white and orange flowers to wish her luck on her Eurovision journey. Speaking to EMMY, Martin said: "Enjoy it because it's going to go past in a flash. And speak to everybody, speak to the newspapers and magazines, the radios, anything. "Speak to them just so they know who you are and what your song is about and get your song out there because it's vitally important, but do enjoy yourself." The Belfast-born singer continued: "I know on the stage you're going to be nervous. Because you'll be aware that there's 400 million people watching, but this is the most wonderful platform you could ever imagine. "Where would you ever be seen again by so many people? So there's going to be managers looking in, there's going to be promoters, there's gonna be record labels looking at everything and just use it and go forward. "Embrace it. Because I love Eurovision. I got stuck into it straight away and EMMY, I'm still working because of that Eurovision contest. You're so beautiful and friendly. Both of you. We'll be cheering for you on the night." When EMMY expressed her gratitude at being invited to the dog shelter, Dublin Dog Hub, which has rehomed 225 dogs since it opened in February 2024, Martin replied: "It was a pleasure... and we just wish you the very, very best of luck. "If you win... you have to come back and live in Dublin. And then I'll have a job here for you. It's been an absolute pleasure and go and win for Ireland!" "We'll do our best!," EMMY responded. EMMY will perform her track Laika Party at the second Eurovision Song Contest semi-final on Thursday 15 May at 8pm on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.

/ Apr 25, 2025, 07:03AM IST President Donald Trump says Russia has made a "pretty big concession" to end the war in Ukraine by stopping short of taking the "whole country." Trump also insisted he is putting "a lot of pressure on Russia" and that's why President Vladimir Putting is "talking right now." "I think he wants to make a deal, we're going to find out very soon, but it takes two to tango," Trump said. Trump made the comments during an Oval Office meeting with Norweigan Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. #russiaukrainewar #ukraineconflict #donaldtrump #ukraine #russiaukrainewar #ukrainecrisis #donaldtrump #ukrainerussiawar #putin #zelensky #whitehouse #ovaloffice

Ange Postecoglou says James Maddison ‘fine' after being forced off with injury in Europa League win

Ange Postecoglou said James Maddison is 'fine' despite being substituted after a heavy clash with Frankfurt goalkeeper Kaua Santos on Thursday. Maddison went down in the 38th minute of Spurs' 1-0 victory (3-2 on aggregate) in Germany, following a collision with Santos which saw the visitors awarded a penalty. The midfielder attempted to run onto a long ball by Cristian Romero, when the onrushing goalkeeper mistimed his challenge, his torso clashing with the head of Maddison. Advertisement Maddison stayed down following the challenge, and referee Davide Massa signalled for a stoppage with medical staff immediately tending to him on the pitch. A penalty was awarded after Massa was sent to the monitor for a VAR review, with Santos receiving a yellow card — a decision Postecoglou did not agree with. 'He is fine. Unbelievable courage in that moment to put his body on the line knowing full well that he was going to get a pretty severe knock and I was surprised it wasn't a red card,' Postecoglou said in his post-match press conference. 'Super courageous from him. He is sore but I'm sure that has all been numbed knowing that he has helped us progress to the semi.' Dominic Solanke scored the resulting penalty, which was taken five minutes after the challenge, in what turned out to be the only goal of the match. Maddison was replaced by Dejan Kulusevski shortly before half time despite attempting to continue. Victory for Spurs means they will face Norweigan side Bodo/Glimt in May for a place in the Europa League final. The club last reached a European final in the Champions League in 2019 under now-U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Postecoglou said despite the feat of reaching the semi-finals, it does not make him a 'better manager,' and said garnering the belief of his squad and staff is more important than outside perceptions of him as a coach. 'I think I said yesterday, I am the same manager today that I was yesterday so if people think us winning tonight makes me a better manager or whoever thinks I wasn't doing a good job yesterday, should be feeling the same way,' Postecoglou said. 'I don't care, it doesn't bother me, it doesn't affect what I do. For me, it's always about the dressing room. Do the players believe? Do the staff believe? That's much more important than what others may make of me. So, unfortunately for a lot of you, you're going to have to put up with me for a little bit longer, mate, so let's see how that goes.' Spurs return to action on Monday against third-placed Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Postecoglou's side are 15th in the table. (Kirill Kudryavstev/AFP via Getty Images)

See it: SpaceX shares first stunning views from polar orbit never before seen from human spaceflight

SpaceX is sharing the first look at the vast expanse of ice layering Earth's poles after launching the private Fram2 mission, the first human spaceflight to polar orbit. A stunning video taken from SpaceX's Dragon capsule by the "Framonauts" shows their view from the spacecraft orbiting Earth at a 90-degree inclination over the north and south poles. The private mission, led by Mission Commander Chun Wang, of Malta, is named after the original Fram ship that first reached the Earth's polar regions in the 1800s. Fram also means "forward" in Norweigan. Nasa Astronauts Speak About Return To Earth After Starliner Flight Flop Left Them Stuck On Space Station The Fram2 mission launched from Nasa's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday night, beginning the historic mission for Wang, Jannicke Mikkelsen, of Norway, Rabea Rogge, of Germany, and Eric Philips, of Australia. SpaceX is sharing live updates on the Dragon's location, which was above the Arctic on Tuesday morning. While Fram2 is among the nearly 630 missions to orbit Earth, it's the first to take the journey this way, orbiting from pole to pole versus missions that orbit near the equator. Even astronauts on the International Space Station have not seen the views the "framonauts" are experiencing. This orbit required a unique southern launch trajectory flying over Florida and Cuba. More views like that in the video above are coming, especially once the crew gets into the Dragon Cupola, a 4-foot-wide 360-degree window to space. This is the second Dragon spacecraft with a cupola. According to SpaceX, the Dragon will fly from the north to the south pole about every 46 minutes. The crew aims to conduct 22 different research experiments during the flight. One of those research projects is the SolarMax Mission to film the aurora borealis for researchers and citizen scientists. The crew plans to try and capture the rare phenomenon known as STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement), a relatively new type of Northern Lights. Following their mission, the Dragon will splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California, marking another first. All previous human spaceflights in Dragon have splashed down off the west or east coast of article source: See it: SpaceX shares first stunning views from polar orbit never before seen from human spaceflight

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United LIVE: Premier League latest score, goals and updates from fixture

Follow live coverage as Wolverhampton Wanderers face West Ham United today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25. The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term. Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United An entertaining half of football comes to a close with Wolves deservedly ahead through their talismanic number nine Strand Larsen. The Norweigan notched his 10th goal of the season on 21 minutes after a sloppy interception allowed him to have the ball centre of goal and he was not about to turn away that kind of gift. West Ham had some early moments on the break, but as the half wore on, those moments became more and more fleeting as Wolves asserted their dominance. The only regret the home side may have, is not turning their dominance into a stronger lead. West Ham need more composure on the ball if they are to get a foothold in this fixture. Wolves have been too slick, moving the ball much quicker. 1 April 2025 20:40 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United HALF-TIME: WOLVES 1-0 WEST HAM 1 April 2025 20:34 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United We are into stoppage time at the end of the first half with three minutes added on. 1 April 2025 20:32 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United Bowen finds himself surrounded by three Wolves players and in a heap on the West Ham right. Their appetite has been impressive. Wan-Bissaka had just previously just failed with a one-two with the England winger. Wolves are stifling the Hammers effectively. 1 April 2025 20:30 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United Just one touch in the opposition area so far from the West Ham and Ireland striker, Ferguson, which echoes that point. 1 April 2025 20:28 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United It has to be said, Ferguson has struggled to impact this game so far. It has been all Wolves barring a couple of breaks away on the counter. In fairness, the service has been poor as West ham simply can't keep the ball or wrestle it away from Wolves for long enough. 1 April 2025 20:27 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United ANDRE STRIKES OVER FOR WEST HAM!! The Brazilian demonstrated a lovely feint from the left-wing position, he cut inside and looked to hit a fierce shot that swirled but ultimately did not trouble the keeper Areola as it was just over the bar. 1 April 2025 20:25 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United BEAUTIFUL PLAY FROM JOAO GOMES IN THE WEST HAM BOX IS NEARLY REWARDED!! The Wolves schemer was instrumental in the middle of the pitch, pirouetting his way into the area via a couple of delicate one-two's. He then attempts a shot that is blocked up into the air and then the impudence to set himself for a rabona near the six-yard box. He is having fun out on the pitch this evening. 1 April 2025 20:23 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United Wolves' Semedo shows a clean pair of heels to Scarles who has no real option but to take him down on the Wolves right. The young academy graduate could have a tough evening ahead. 1 April 2025 20:20 Wolverhampton Wanderers vs West Ham United 1 April 2025 20:16
