I can't resist a couple of quid each-way on this former Juddmonte star who could win doing handstands at 14-1

MATT CHAPMAN I can't resist a couple of quid each-way on this former Juddmonte star who could win doing handstands at 14-1 Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) I WONDER what 'Stoutey' would make of it all? I'm talking, of course, about Nostrum and More Thunder, who both have the chance to make a big splash on ITV this afternoon. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Nostrum used to run in the Juddmonte silks under Ryan Moore - he's nowhere near that level now but I can't resist a couple of quid on him each-way Credit: Getty One thing I do know is that with Nostrum the legendary Newmarket handler Sir Michael Stoute never had on his mind the William Hill/MND Association Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon! And I suspect the Group 2 Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes wasn't quite where Stoute expected More Thunder to end up. Nope, having thought a bit more I'm pretty sure of that, even though we are dealing with a 'think-outside-the-box' handler of 52 years experience who banged in over 4000 winners, 16 British Classic successes, including half a dozen Derbys headlined by the imperious Shergar, ten UK trainers' championships, 82 Royal Ascot victories, an Arc with Workforce, two Japan and eight Breeders' Cup successes. It's impossible to know whether Nostrum has any ability left at all. Once he was a potential Juddmonte star. An exquisite debut at Sandown – with classy Arrest back in third – was followed by success in the Group 3 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket. Nostrum took out the very useful Holloway Boy and he was cut from 20-1 to 4-1 for the Group 1 Dewhurst and 8-1 from 14-1 for the 2023 2000 Guineas. In the Dewhurst, Nostrum was sent off the 5-2 joint market leader and ended up third to Chaldean. He returned in 2023 with success in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes, but after that things gradually got worse. In eight following starts Nostrum has come up against 48 horses and beaten only 10 of them. In his last four outings, all for new handler David O'Meara, Nostrum has defeated just TWO of his 28 rivals. Nostrum races over 6f for the first time in his career on Saturday afternoon. I have no idea if he has a chance or not. But I'll have a couple of quid on him each-way because at his best he might just be able to win this on the bridle! More Thunder you know all about now, having once raced over an extended 1m2f for 'Stoutey' but been campaigned this term for William Haggas over 6f and 7f. Everything looks good for him to run a huge one in the Hungerford at Newbury, with the strong gallop he likes to run at surely assured thanks to the presence of the very useful Spy Chief and Witness Stand. Haggas's Somerville Lodge stable is flying right now, and it's quite possible he will score under Tom Marquand, having got back to winning ways in the Bunbury Cup following a desperately unlucky second to Get It in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot. At a huge price I want to chance Alyanaabi each-way. The former 2000 Guineas fifth – class City of Troy miles behind - started this season with a fine success at Haydock but hasn't done much since at the same track, Newcastle and Goodwood. It's hard to know what he likes to do as he went from the front for his win, but I've always thought settling is key for this animal and if he's ever going to chill out it could be here off a strong gallop. Owen Burrows trains and Jim Crowley has the big job. An each-way chance but please Jim drop him in behind the pacesetters and unleash late! On Sunday all eyes are on Deauville for the Group 1 The Aga Khan Studs Jacques le Marois over a mile. Eleven horses are set to go to post, including one-time possible star The Lion in Winter, and I really hope Rosallion bounces back to winning way for trainer Richard Hannon and Sean Levey. This should be very winnable for the former Irish 2000 Guineas hero, and he's been knocking at the door this season with placed efforts in the Lockinge, Queen Anne and Sussex Stakes. The son of Blue Point was no doubt unlucky not to score in his last two outings, and of course his late surge is always subject to being times to perfection. I suspect Levey will ride Rosallion a little bit more like a 'normal' horse tomorrow, for all that he knows he has to deliver his challenge late in the day. It's not an easy task, but Levey is a Classic winner and well up to taking on the best. Fingers crossed it all goes well. York next week. I'll be back with a column every day so don't miss out! Drug recalled by a Miami man's dying company that faced Medicaid fraud charges

All bottles of an ulcer medication have been recalled by the remains of a Kansas City drug company that filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy after paying millions to settle Medicaid fraud charges. Nostrum Laboratories, which recalled 1 gram Sulcralfate Tablets on Friday, is in Kansas City at 1800 N. Topping Ave. Online county property records say Nostrom's founder and CEO, Nirmal Mulye, lives in a $5 million, 4,600-square-foot condo on Miami's Biscayne Boulevard. Mulye's LinkedIn profile says he's got other jobs with Nostrum's 'family of pharmaceutical and energy companies.' No operational employees have jobs at Nostrum Laboratories — they all were fired after the company filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 30, 2024. No employees means no one is in quality control. So, Nostrum's recall notice said, the company can't 'assure that this product meets the identity, strength, quality, and purity characteristics that it is purported or represented to possess. While specific risks to patients from use of an adulterated product cannot always be identified or assessed, it is also not possible to rule out patient risks resulting from the use of such a product.' In short, Nostrum can't guarantee that the Sulcralfate will work as it should and isn't contaminated. The National Library of Medicine says Sulcrafate is for 'short-term treatment (up to 8 weeks) of an active duodenal ulcer' or 'maintenance therapy for duodenal ulcer patients at reduced dosage after healing of acute ulcers.' This involves 1 gram Sulcralfate Tablets in 100-count or 500-count bottles, all lots, made by Nostrum after June 2023. Nostrum's notice tells wholesalers and distributors to destroy the tablets and that 'Nostrum Labs is not accepting any returns of this product.' Customers should contact the prescribing medical professional or their pharmacist for different treatment options. If Sulcrafate users suffer a medical problem, notify a medical professional then notify the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event reporting program. Direct questions about the recall to Nostrum at recallcoordinator@ Drug prices and Medicaid Mulye jumped into the national drug cost discussion for a time in 2018 after being quoted in a Financial Times article justifying a 400% increase in a urinary tract infection drug. Clarifying his statement to CNBC, Mulye pointed the finger at the FDA for overregulation and inefficiencies that created the mise en scène for actions of Martin Shkreli, the drug executive who jacked up the price of one drug 5000% in 2015. READ MORE: CEO who hiked drug price 400% fires back at U.S. Senator, says he got death threats In 2023, the U.S. Justice Department charged Nostrum and Mulye with intentionally underpaying Medicaid rebates concerning the drug nitrofurantonin or Nitro OS. As explained by the Justice Department, drugmakers 'pay quarterly rebates to state Medicaid programs in exchange for Medicaid's coverage of the manufacturers' drugs. The (Medicaid Drug Rebate Program) requires manufacturers to pay inflation-based rebates for drugs,' to protect the Medicaid programs from major jumps in drug price. The rebates are determined by the drug's current price and the price when that dosage form and strength was first marketed. Nostrum took Nitro OS off the market in January 2018 to comply with new FDA guidelines, then relaunched it in August 2018. Nostrum admitted it did so without changes in dosage form and strength to Nitro OS. Same drug, new price — from $474.75 to $2,392.32 per bottle. That meant Nostrum should pay larger Medicaid rebates, but Nostrum admits it didn't from the last quarter of 2018 through the first quarter of 2020. The minimum Nostrum would pay in the settlement, Justice said, was $3,825,000, and the most would be $50 million. 'Nostrum Laboratories reduced the amount that it paid to the Medicaid program by improperly calculating the rebates it owed, even after hiking the cost of one of their drugs by over 400%,' said FBI Boston Field Office Special Agent in Charge Jodi Cohen.

Six firms booked for cheating medical device company of 2.23cr

Surat: Vesu police have registered a case of cheating against the proprietors of six firms from various states for allegedly duping a Surat-based medical device manufacturing company of Rs 2.23 crore. The case was filed following a complaint by Chintan Kapadiya, director of Envision Scientific Pvt Ltd. According to the complaint, Envision Scientific and its associate company, Concept Medical Research Pvt Ltd, supplied medical devices to the six accused firms over the past seven years. Despite repeated notices, emails and payment reminders, the firms allegedly failed to clear their dues. The companies named in the FIR include: Sakshi Enterprise (Raipur, Chhattisgarh), Bright Cardio Care (Perambalur, Tamil Nadu), SVR Medical Technologies (Thane), Meditree Health Solutions (Hyderabad), Hindustan Enterprises (Ranchi), Infinite Medical Solutions (Mumbai). The products supplied included a range of medical devices such as Albuminous, Mitigator, Nostrum and MagicTouch, among others. Kapadiya stated that both Envision Scientific and Concept Medical, which also operates a manufacturing unit in the Sachin industrial area, have faced continuous delays and non-payment from these firms, despite fulfilling all delivery obligations. Vesu police have booked all six firms under relevant sections of the IPC for cheating and initiated an investigation into the matter.
